Library To Reopen, Unveil Renovations The Hershey Public Library will resume in-person library services on Monday, June 29, at 9:30 a.m. Renovations to the building that began in October 2019 have now been completed. New features include the family entrance, which is convenient to the parking area; the Children’s Story Time Room, housing an extensive collection of picture books; and a Teen Room dedicated to young adult reading and listening materials. Due to COVID-19, some items, including children’s toys and board books, will be temporarily unavailable. Book donations are still suspended. Reduced furniture is necessary to comply with social distancing. Public computer access will also be reduced to comply with social distancing, and there will be no printing or copying. Masks are required to be worn by all staff and patrons inside the building unless there is an underlying health

condition. Children under age 2 do not need to wear masks. Additionally, public meeting room space will not be available for reservation, and the hot beverage dispenser will not be available. Patrons are encouraged to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands frequently. The library asks that visitors pay close attention to the signs providing information while inside the building. Health and safety are of the utmost concern. While the library appreciates its volunteers, they are not permitted to assist at this time. The library also notes that its summer hours will be in operation. The library will close at 3 p.m. on Saturdays until Labor Day weekend. For more information, readers may contact the library director, A new family entrance is among the renovations completed at the Laura O’Grady, at 717-533-6555 or Hershey Public Library since October 2019. Gretna Theatre will offer a drive-in movie on Friday, July 10, with a showing of the filmed live performance of “42nd Street from London’s West End. The filmed performance depicts the recent revival directed by the musical’s late co-writer Mark Bramble. “42nd Street first opened at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2017, featuring a cast of more than 50 - the largest in West End history. With a score that includes such tunes as “We’re in the Money, “Lullaby of Broadway and “Shuffle Off to Buffalo, “42nd Street tells the story of famed theater director Julian Marsh as he tries to mount a musical extravaganza at the height of the Great Depression. Gates will open at 8 p.m. and the film will begin at dusk. There will be an admission fee per carload, and all tickets must be purchased in advance at www.gretnatheatre.org.

2020 Elizabethtown Fair Canceled Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the board of directors for the Elizabethtown Fair is officially announcing the cancellation of the 2020 Elizabethtown Fair, which had been scheduled for Monday through Saturday, Aug. 24 to 29. Gov. Wolf recently announced that the “green phase of reopening would limit gatherings, including fairs, to 250 people and would also include additional requirements and restrictions that would be impossible to enforce at the Elizabethtown Fair. In addition, organizers have a sincere concern for the safety of volunteers, exhibitors, concessionaires, sponsors, attendees, and the entire community. The board of directors is grateful to community members for their understanding and loyal commitment to the Elizabethtown Fair during these unprecedented times. Organizers are looking forward to next year’s fair, set for Monday to Saturday, Aug. 23 to 28, 2021.

Homeschool Group Accepting Applications Classical Conversations (CC) of Elizabethtown is currently accepting applications for the 2020-21 school year. CC is a worldwide classical, Christian homeschool organization that seeks to equip parents and students to use the classical tools of learning to hone students’ academic skills of recitation, logical thinking, and persuasive rhetoric. The Foundations program, for students ages 4 to 12, focuses on the basics of history, science, English grammar, geography, Latin, and math. Students also engage in weekly science projects, fine arts, and oral presentations. In the future, the Elizabethtown campus plans to host Chal-

lenge programs for junior high and senior high aged students, which focus on required subjects plus the skills of argumentation and persuasion. Challenge is designed to help students develop the character traits of leadership, discipline, decision-making, freedom, and ownership as well as an understanding of choices and consequences. The Elizabethtown CC community meets on Tuesdays during the academic year at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located at 398 N. Locust St, Elizabethtown.
