Cornhole tournament
to aid fire department
The Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department (LSVFD) will hold its inaugural cornhole tournament on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. Teams will participate in a double-elimination tournament for both bragging rights and cash prizes. The tournament, held outside the firehouse at 1350 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown, will kick off with sign-in at 9 a.m. and will feature food trucks, a live DJ, and giveaway draw ings. Attendees may bring their own beverages.
The tournament will serve as a fundraiser for the fire department, which responds to approximately 600 emergency calls annu ally in Lower Swatara Town ship and the surrounding municipalities.
“LSVFD is very lucky for the support we receive through the township, but our fully volunteer organi zation must raise an addi tional $150,000 each year to ensure our firefighters have the right equipment and training to safely serve our community,” said Bill Leonard, fire department president. “Events like this cornhole tournament go a long way toward meeting our budgetary goals each year.”
The registration fee for a team of two includes entry in the tournament with a guarantee of at least two games of cornhole, commemorative T-shirts,

Fire company slates festival
Lisburn Community Fire Company, 1800 Main St., Lisburn, will host its 70th annual Olde Time Festival from Wednesday to Saturday, Aug. 7 to 10. Aug. 7 will be Ride Night from 6 to 10 p.m., featuring rides by AEB Amusements; there is a fee for wristbands. The large pavilion will be closed, but food, including sandwiches, sausage, pizza, and Hershey’s ice cream, will be available. A DJ will provide entertainment.
The festival will also include free evening performances by Reminisce Band on Thursday, Aug. 8; Borderline on Friday, Aug. 9; and the country band Famous Rumors Band on Aug. 10.

In the large pavilion, attendees may obtain hot chicken and roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and homemade pies and cakes. This year, credit cards may be used for payment at the small and large pavilions and the sausage stand.

Tank crewman to speak at meeting
The Central Pennsylvania World War II Roundtable will meet on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 E. Main St., Hummelstown. The event will also be livestreamed on the “Central Pennsylvania World War II Roundtable” YouTube channel.
The speaker will be veteran Harry Miller. He served as a tank crewman with elements of several divisions, entering combat in Europe in October 1944 and zigzagging along the Siegfried Line, ultimately pushing the Germans east until the end of the war. Although combat had ended, Miller remained in Germany until 1948 on peacekeeping assignments, managing the temporary zones of the Soviets, Germans, and Austrians in the Bavarian Alps. His military career, including serving in the Army and Air Force, con -
tinued until 1966. He served in Korea, the Cold War, and Vietnam, and he was stationed in the South Pacific, Alaska, New York, and Washington, D.C. He also returned to Europe. Lauver to speak at Vietnam Round Table meeting
The Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Round Table will meet on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Vietnam Veterans of America, Michael J. Novosel MOH Capital Chapter 542, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg. Following a brief business meeting, Robert “Bob” Lauver from Selinsgrove will discuss his service with the Marines in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.
Lauver enlisted after graduating from Rothrock High School in Bloomsburg. He served with a quad-50 unit, G Battery, 1st Battalion, 65th Artillery, and also with the 44th Artillery near the demilitarized zone. He
received various awards, including a Silver Star.
Following his military service, Lauver completed college and worked as a department head at a local hospital. He was then an entrepreneur until he retired. Lauver enjoys working with veterans’ organizations. He has been married to his wife for 45 years, and they have two children.

WellSpan Rehabilitation in Palmyra has announced that Jessica Spero has joined the staff as a physical therapist specializing in pelvic health.
Spero obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Florida in 2017. She has earned her board certification as an orthopedic clinical specialist, completed an orthopedic residency and received advanced training in pelvic health through the American Physical Therapy Association.
Pelvic health physical therapists treat a wide variety of conditions for both male and female patients, including urinary and fecal incontinence or pelvic pain resulting from pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. Therapists also assist with managing low back pain and maintaining and restoring

The Middletown and Hummelstown Railway Preservation Society will hold an ice cream fundraiser at Jak Frost Frozen Desserts, 503 E. Emaus St., Middletown, on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 9 p.m. A portion of all sales during that time will be donated to the society.

Biechler earns college degree
Hershey Area Women’s Connection will present its “Finding Peace” luncheon buffet at the Hershey Italian Lodge, 128 Hillcrest Road, Hershey, on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from noon to 2 p.m. All ladies are invited to attend, and the cost is all-inclusive. No membership or dues are required.

Paper Doll Artists and Illustrators.” Music will be provided by Anna Greiner, a vocalist from Cleona, and Penny Keen from Black River, N.Y., will present “Losing Control and Finding Peace.”

Class of 1974 posts reunion
The Elizabethtown Area High School Class of 1974 will hold its 50th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Milton Hershey School’s Purcell Friendship Hall, 109 McCorkle Road, Hershey. Flea market announced
John Biechler graduated from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I. The university conferred nearly 4,000 undergraduate degrees and 800 graduate degrees during commencement ceremonies from May 17 to 19.
Biechler is a resident of Middletown.
The Saint Joan of Arc Council of Catholic Women will hold its annual flea market on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 6 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon. These hours are different from previous years’. The event will take place in the social hall at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey.
