Open Stage Sets Schedule the 16th and 17th centuries, the five staff members will develop the stories and stage them insularly. Audiences can expect to see a handful of actors playing many characters in every show, but will consistently see various theatrical devices, including puppetry, found-object design, trunk show performance, projection and green screen techniques. Although the Open Stage staff has committed to making the most of its mainstage season with only five people, the theater still supports a company of artists. Members of the local community will present ideas and projects that Open Stage can help promote and produce, calling it the Associate Artist Series. To kick off this series, local actor and horror movie aficionado Matthew Golden will present an online production of “Night of the Living Dead” in October, co-directed with Philip Mann. Students will also be included in the season and will have virtual performances free to

Screenings For Cancer Slated Geisinger is making high-risk breast cancer screenings more convenient for the community by offering assessments through a phone call during a free, all-day event on Saturday, Oct. 17. Those who register for the event will have a one-onone breast cancer screening call with a Geisinger provider to discuss their individual risk factors, health options and followup care, if needed. The event is open to all women age 18 and older who are concerned about their breast health. During the 15minute phone appointments, a member of the Geisinger care team will complete an

assessment with the participants to determine their level of risk for breast cancer. After the phone call with the Geisinger team, participants will receive information on their results and additional resources or follow-up actions, if necessary. The care team can set up an appointment for an in-person evaluation if the clinician has determined there is a risk. Appointments are limited during the Oct. 17 event, and registration is required. To schedule a time slot for this event, readers may visit www.geisinger.org/breast -screenings.

Open Stage is presenting the 2020-21 season with completely free access to all virtual shows. Every month, Open Stage will perform a new play live on YouTube and give free access to live and archived performances. This format will require high production turnover. Due to a huge reduction in budget, the five full-time staff members - Benny Benamati, Brianna Dow, Chris Gibson, Rachel Landon and Stuart Landon - will comprise the casts, production teams and crews of the entire in-house season, with limited guest artists and no live audience. No licenced shows will be produced, and the team will rely on popular public domain stories to present. The lineup will include “Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus,” “A Christmas Carol,” “Kafka’s Shorts,” “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” “Everyman,” “The Time Machine,” “Treasure Island,” “Poirot Investigates!” and “Poirot Returns!” Much like the roving acting troupes of

Attention Arthritis Sufferers...

Exclusive Arthritis Workshop Reveals The 3 Keys to Feel Younger and Feel Stronger Naturally Without Aches, Pains and Stiffness Do you feel like your life is on hold because of everyday aches and pains? Do you have trouble walking, doing stairs or standing for long periods? Do you feel like you need to take a rest when you’re trying to keep up with your family (kids and grandkids)…or even keep up with your dog? Have you been told that your stiff, swollen, achy joints are “bone-on-bone” and there’s nothing you can do about it? Are you looking to stay active? Feel normal again? Feel younger and stronger naturally without medications, injections or surgery? If you are looking to feel younger and feel stronger naturally, then going to the Arthritis Workshop may be one of the best decisions you make. Arthritis can cause you to feel pain, stiffness, and achy…making it difficult to move… even with everyday activities. Arthritis can stop you from feeling normal. • It can force you to take pain medications, Ibuprofen, or even get cortisone injections (which are known to cause other health problems). • Everyday activities like walking, driving, doing stairs, housework or even sleeping can feel difficult to impossible to perform. (Especially in the morning when you first get out of bed). • You can feel irritated, upset or uncomfortable trying to keep up with your family or friends. • You might feel like you’re neglecting your yard, house or garden… • Arthritis can distract you from focusing on what you’re doing (forgetting why you went to the store…or what you were going to do). • And it can take away from your ability to live a normal life…feeling like you have to depend on other people…or having them wait on you while you “just sit for a minute.” Less movement and less living can lead to depression, stress and a life of sitting. Not good. Here at Madden Physical Therapy, we’ve helped thousands of arthritis sufferers from right here in Harrisburg…and the rest of Central PA…who have suffered needlessly with arthritis…it’s our specialty. Most were experiencing pain, aching or stiffness in their back, neck, hips, knees and shoulders…and were looking for natural treatments… By request to help arthritis sufferers, I’m hosting an Arthritis Workshop right here at Madden Physical Therapy in Lower Paxton on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m. If you’re confused about what to do and looking for answers, here’s some of what you’ll learn: • The Single Biggest #1 Mistake arthritis sufferers make which actually stops them from healing… • The 2 Most Common Types of Arthritis… • A Sure-Fire Way to Pick the Right Treatment for the Cause of Your Pain (and save you a ton of time and money) • Why your joints feel stiff in the morning…and what you can do about it. • What successful treatment and permanent relief looks like without the side effects of medications, injections or surgery.

Hi, everybody! It’s the time of the year when I feel like baking again! I love to bake more than cook. I love how the smell (of the breads or cookies or cakes or meatloaves or whatever) fills the house with yummy goodness and warmth and coziness! It brings back childhood memories of my nan, Fleta Pilsitz. She was an amazing baker. And I was an amazing eater! (Still am!) Ahhhh, fall is fabulous! We only had a living room where we would congregate, Unless it was at mealtime in the kitchen where we ate. We had no need for family rooms or extra rooms to dine, When meeting as a family those two rooms would work out fine. We only had one TV set, and channels maybe two, But always there was one of them with something worth the view. For snacks we had potato chips that tasted like a chip, And if you wanted flavor there was Lipton’s onion dip. Store-bought snacks were rare because my mother liked to cook, And nothing can compare to snacks in Betty Crocker’s book. The snacks were even healthy with the best ingredients, No labels with a hundred things that make not a bit of sense.

“Why are you crying?” the father asked. “Because my friends will be jealous, I’ll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I’ll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken,” answered the pessimist twin. Passing the optimist twin’s room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. “What are you so happy about?” he asked. To which his optimist twin replied, “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!” Tip of the Week Grapefruit and coarse sea salt make a great cleaner. With the help of the citric acid from the grapefruit and the scrubbing action of the salt, you can kill stains in your sinks and showers instantly. Just cut a grapefruit in half, pour some coarse sea salt onto a plate, dip the grapefruit in the salt, and scrub away! Fact of the Week Contrary to popular belief, squirrels that have spent the entire autumn collecting acorns and other foods do not hibernate for the winter. Rather, they spend the majority of their time in nests they built to shelter them from harsh weather. When squirrels do come out in winter, they are usually tunneling under the snow to find the food they buried during the fall. Food for Thought No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. - Aesop Have a great week, everybody!

Directions 1. Position an oven rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 2. Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch slices. Place apples in a large mixing bowl and toss with sugar, lemon juice, flour, and cinnamon. Pour into a lightly greased 9-by-13-inch baking dish, and spread out into an even layer. Set aside. 3. In another large bowl, mix together the nuts, flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, gently work in the cold butter until pea-sized lumps are formed. 4. Top apples evenly with mixture and bake until apples are bubbly and topping is golden brown, about 45 minutes, rotating once halfway through cooking. 5. Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream. Joke of the Week A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other was their looks. If one felt it was too hot, the other thought it was too cold. If one said the TV was too loud, the other claimed the volume needed to be turned up. Opposite in every way, one was an eternal optimist, the other a doom and gloom pessimist. Just to see what would happen, on the twins’ birthday their father loaded the pessimist’s room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist’s room he loaded with horse manure. That night the father passed by the pessimist’s room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly.

Students Learn About Asian Cultures, History Hershey Christian Academy middle school students have been learning about other countries in their World Tour class. The first stop on the itinerary was Asia, specifically Korea, Japan, and Thailand. Topics have included Japanese plastic food replicas, known as sampuru; how one becomes an English teacher in Asia; and Operation Kiddy Car, in which U.S. servicemen rescued thousands of orphaned children during the Korean War. Cooking projects such as Korean sushi and Japanese rolled omelets and rice balls have also been

included. Melinda Marquart, educational programs coordinator with the JICC of the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C., was a recent virtual guest. She presented a lesson on greetings, festivals, and respect in Japanese culture. Hershey Christian Academy is in its second year of instruction for 4-year-old kindergartners through 10th-grade students at 99 Valley Road, Hummelstown. For more information, including mid-year enrollment, readers may contact the school office at 717312-7595 or email info@ hersheychristianacademy.org.
