Concert To Support Efforts To Combat Homelessness

HERSHEY - HUMMELSTOWN - PALMYRA

Fourteen Harrisburg bands and musicians have contributed to a new Christmas album to benefit the homeless population during the holiday season. The album is titled “Joy to the Burg: The Gift of Music to Help the Homeless.” In connection with the project, the contributing musicians are organizing “Joy to the Burg: A Live Christmas Concert,” to be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at Rose Lehrman Performing Arts Center at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, 1 HACC Drive, Harrisburg. Slightly more than half the artists whose work is included on the album will perform at the concert. The master of ceremonies will be Glenn Hamilton of The River 97.3. Tickets may be purchased at www.JoytotheBurg.com. “Joy to the Burg: The Gift of Music to Help the Homeless” was envisioned by philanthropist and musician Sheldon Jones of the band Loco Lobo. Jones said that he and his wife moved to Harrisburg approximately two years ago and soon noticed the number of homeless people in the downtown area. Jones, who had returned to playing the guitar in his retirement, conceived the idea for the benefit concert and spoke to Tom Sweet, pastor at

Director Jim Johnson wanted to be sure that Susquehanna Stage Company (SSC) performed something unique for its first major children’s production in the Eater Theater at Marietta Center for the Arts, 133 W. Market St., Marietta. Instead of performing a show that was pegged outright for youths, he opted for an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” SSC board member Asher Johnson, who is also Jim’s son and regularly appears in SSC productions, wrote the original adaptation, “A Children’s Christmas Carol,” which is filled with Christmas carols and songs. “It’s pretty true to the Charles Dickens version and has the same characters, but we wanted something that was more tailored for younger kids,” commented Asher. A beloved holiday favorite, the tale follows embittered Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Brayton Alkinburgh, as he clings to his miserly ways and declares the joys of Christmas to be “Bah! Humbug!” Scrooge’s disheartened mentality is shaken up through the course of several events, including encounters with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future - portrayed by Emma Witman, Anastasia Hess, and Teresa Moore, respectively. Zac Snyder will play Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s employee. “I get to be the happiness of the show and spread cheer with my family,” said Zac, who lives in Columbia and attends Lancaster Catholic High School. This will be his fifth performance with SSC. Mrs. Cratchit will be portrayed by Julia Bono, who is making her SSC debut. “I love this show, and I was really interested

in playing a character who is a lot older than me and who has kids,” shared Julia, a Lampeter resident and student at Lancaster Country Day School. “I think it’s really special that it’s a cast of all kids. We all get along really well, and we’re having a lot of fun with this show,” added Julia. The cast includes children ages 5 to 18 from throughout Lancaster and York counties. Additional cast members include Grayson Marz as Isabella, Teddy Best as Tiny Tim, Brennen Eshleman as Jacob Marley, Aiden Stehman as Mr. Fezziwig and The Visitor, Alexa Knapp as Mrs. Fezziwig, Liam Nornhold as Fred, and Claire Hanlon as Fred’s Wife. In the ensemble are Charis Alkinburgh, Lydia Alkinburgh, Emma Antonacci, Hayden Bires, Stella Heysek Breese, Aria Cobb, Addison DeLuca, Sydney Droege, Charlotte Evans, Aidan Fahnestock, Zoe Fahnestock, Kinsey Fries, Jane Haas, Portia Keddie, Molly Kitchen, Seth Manning, Elise Maurer, Lauren McGough, Isaac Moore, Madison Mutterspaugh, Blake Neff, Molly Neill, Francyne Nichols, Saige Schmitt, Derian Shubert, Audrey Shultz, Alivia Wahba, and Sylvie Willing. Lions Club Launches Annual Campaign The Hershey Lions Club recently launched its annual Sight and Service Campaign to raise funds to help Derry Township residents. Any funds raised go back to the public in the form of service projects and donations. Since 2009, the club has collected $22,989 through the campaign. Money raised through the campaign allows Lions to benefit the community through financial support and acts of handson-service. Some needs in the community include eye exams and glasses for residents in need, local student scholarships, sponsorship of youth sports teams, medical equipment assistance, support for the Hershey Food Bank, Grace United Methodist’s “Ready for School” project, and tree planting. Mailers for the campaign were recently prepared to be mailed, but anyone in the community can contribute. Dona-

During a stop at Harrisburg International Airport, United executives highlighted the unique features of the world’s only 50-seat, twocabin aircraft. The CRJ-550 was developed with United’s business customers in mind, many of whom travel between airports like Harrisburg International Airport and United’s hub in Chicago, with additional routes coming soon. The CRJ-550 aircraft features upgrades in legroom, storage, and amenities. Premium amenities on the aircraft include a self-serve refreshment center for United First customers, featuring a wide assortment of snacks and beverages; space for every customer to bring a roller bag on board; more overall legroom per seat than any other 50-seat aircraft flown by a U.S. airline; and the ability to stay connected while in flight with United Wi-Fi. Additionally, customers can view their seat before they buy using the virtual seat map. Seat views are available for all onboard seating, including Economy Plus and Economy cabin - both window and
