The Association of Faculty and Friends (AFF) of the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (PSHMC) and Penn State College of Medicine, a group of volunteers with no overhead, has raised $550,000 since 2012 and more than $1 million in 50 years to benefit research, patients, families, and the local community. According to AFF president Lisa Braccini-Barletta, 100% of the funds raised each year go to scholarships and grants to the benefit of the hospital and local community. She noted that, per AFF bylaws, 10% of funds raised support scholarships at the Penn State College of Medicine, with the remainder supporting and promoting medical education, research, and clinical care. Annually, from January through April 15, applications for grant allocations may be found on the AFF website. To qualify for a grant, individuals must be an employee or student of the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The grant requests must meet the mission of the AFF. The Allocations Committee assures that funds are distributed to all of these areas, as well as for the betterment of community health. This year, some of the grants include the following: PSU Medical Laboratory Science Program, through which eight students per year will be trained to meet the ongoing workforce needs of the medical center; management of

uninsured individuals; Healthy Meal Kit Program, covering seven food pantries in the local community where data has shown a significant prevalence of diabetes and hypertension; and SCOPE Health (Student-Run and Collaborative Outreach Program for Health Equity), allowing students to be immersed in the larger patient population of central Pennsylvania through an integrated student clinic. In 2020, the AFF will hold a Roaring ’20s Spring Gala instead of its annual fashion show and luncheon. The gala is slated to take place at the Hotel Hershey
Three MEDSAFE medication depositories are located around the campus of the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, paid for by a grant from AFF. on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Cochairs for the event are Amber Branchi and Cydney Sponaugle, and sponsorship co-chairs are Joann Prushinski and Stephanie Bann. The fundraiser will support the grants and the Palliative Care Program, scholarship awards for nursing, special programs such as the AFF/Emergency Department Program for Sensory Awareness, and more. The Capitol tree lighting ceremony took place in Harrisburg on Dec. 9.
On Nov. 5, Amy Kreamer opened Whisk Café, her third restaurant and her first solo culinary venture. Whisk Café is located in the Sycamore Square Marketplace, 98 Masonic Drive, at the edge of the Masonic Village campus in Elizabethtown. Kreamer has co-owned Lucky Ducks Bar and Grille in Elizabethtown for eight years, and a second location opened in Hershey over a year ago. Whisk Café, a different style of eatery, is dedicated to Kreamer’s parents, who inspired her interest in gourmet cooking. The café features a local farmto-table concept, with fruits and beef from the Masonic Village Farm Market, meats from Groff ’s Meats, and fresh eggs from a local hatchery. In addition to fresh baked goods and seasonal desserts, the café features breakfast offerings including eggs Benedict with fresh hollandaise sauce and seasonal French toast with apples, peaches, or strawberries. Whisk Café serves beverages from Red Rooster Coffee and Swallowtail Tea from Floyd, Va., as well as a variety of expresso beverages, smoothies, and mocktails. The lunch menu is composed of lighter fare such as salads, sandwiches with deli meats or fresh chicken salad on a croissant, and a tart of the day with fresh fruit. The café also offers a children’s menu. Catering is also available. In addition to indoor seating, customers have the option of dining outdoors seasonally and ordering online at www.thewhiskcafe.com. A gift shop area offers local merchandise. The restaurant will available to rent for private parties. Whisk Café is open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Approximately a dozen are displayed at the museum in Hershey, while the rest are stored in a MOBT-owned annex building adjacent to Hershey. Several factors drove this merger, including the MOBT not having a permanent home, which had impacted its ability to raise
funds. Also, it will gain additional capacity by being part of the AACA Museum. The MOBT’s members voted overwhelmingly to merge, and they will all become members of the AACA Museum. Their membership and contributions will continue to support bus-related activities. Rather than having a board of directors, the MOBT will be structured as a committee of the AACA Museum. As one of its last acts, the MOBT’s board selected bus industry veterans John Oakman, David Schmidt, and Randy Wilcox to head this body. The committee will have a voting seat on the museum’s board, which will be filled initially by Oakman. Most of the MOBT’s existing committees will continue to function in carrying out their bus-related missions centered on events, programs, education, and fundraising. The plan is to combine and leverage the collective resources to further both bus-related functions and general AACA Museum activities going forward. The MOBT joins the Tucker Automobile Club of America (TACA), which merged with the AACA Museum two years ago and whose members are now part of the AACA Museum.
