The Local Touch Today’s travelers have a plethora of options when it comes to lodging, but locally owned bed-and-breakfasts and inns can provide guests with a personal touch they may not find at other establishments. “Comfort, a relaxed atmosphere, personalized treatment, amazing breakfasts, knowledge of the area, a piece of history, privacy, becoming part of ‘the family,’ a genuine (legal) B&B (not a pop-up spare room), and a safe environment,” listed Karen Simpson, innkeeper/owner at Apple Bin Inn Bed & Breakfast in Willow Street, to explain what locally owned bed-and-breakfasts and inns can offer visitors. Simpson’s inn is just one of many area bedand-breakfasts with deep ties to the local area. While she has owned the Apple Bin Inn for a little over four years, Simpson noted that the Apple Bin Inn has been an inn since 1986 and the house was built in 1860 from the original family of the Hans Herr Homestead settlement.
