Instruments used in the program will include bongos, gathering drums, djembes, congas, steel drums, handchimes, a guitar and boomwhackers. “You just hit them on things. They are great, especially for the younger kids,” Radcliff said of the boomwhackers. “We also have a keyboard, but you don’t have to know how to play the piano.”

The program, which is open to children ages 5 to 10, is being led by Ashley Radcliff, the church’s music director. “We are going to be playing instruments, listening to different music and playing along and creating our own music,” Radcliff explained. “I (lead) choirs and all kinds of performing groups. This will be something different. We will explore the idea of music and praise and why we like making music and not be afraid to make noise as opposed to having to get all the notes right.”

Food items will also be offered. “Everyone will get a hot dog, a baked good, a snow cone, popcorn and cotton candy,” Woodring explained, noting that additional quantities of food can be purchased. The carnival is just one community outreach offered by Limeville UMC. It also holds an annual Christmas program for families and an Easter egg hunt. Radcliff, who has a degree in music education, is the owner of Radcliff Music Studio, which meets in the education wing of the church. “I am a private music teacher, and most of (the instruments) belong to me,” she noted. “Some of them have been donated to the church. (The collection) has accrued over the past decade.” In addition to her work in the music studio and at the church, Radcliff formed a community choir during the sesquicentennial celebration in Parkesburg, which commemorated the borough’s 150th anniversary. The choir performed on May 22 in Minch Park. “We had 40-some people from all different churches. The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center (AHMEC) has announced JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation Inc., as the recipient of its annual Achievement Award. The award, presented to a person or organization that has made a significant impact to furthering vertical flight during the past year, is presented during the museum’s Gala fundraiser, which will be held this year on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Brian Garrett-Glaser, Joby’s senior communications strategist, will accept the award on behalf of Bevirt and the company. He will also deliver the Gala’s keynote address about the revolutionary potential of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Bevirt established Joby Aviation Inc., a California-based company developing all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger service, in 2009 while exploring electric motors, flight software, and lithium-ion batteries. Since 2012, Joby has collaborated with NASA’s electric flight projects, including the X-57 and LEAPTech. Working with various designs and models throughout the years, the company chose its current configuration and began a rigorous flight testing program. By 2020, the enterprise’s preproduction prototype had flown more than 5,300 miles, including a flight of 154.6 miles on a single charge. Joby has teamed with Toyota and Uber, achieved U.S. Air Force approval, and completed its first FAA production conformity inspection toward becoming the first company to receive type certification from the FAA for eVTOL aircraft. The Fresh Start program was introduced in August 2019 following recommendations by Chester County’s Juvenile Probation Office. The Ms. Senior America pageant, for women age 60 and up, will be held at the Hershey Lodge, 325 University Drive, Hershey, this year for the first time. The Ms. Senior America organization believes that seniors are the foundation of America and the nation’s most valuable treasure as it is upon their knowledge, experience and resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a better society. National Ms. Senior America queens and runners-up have been featured on the Rachael Ray Show, in the New York Times, and in AARP magazines. Forty-two contestants from various states and territories of the U.S. are scheduled to compete this year. The events are open to the public and will be held on Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 7 to 9, in the Red Room at the Lodge. The first preliminary will be held on Sept. 7 from 2 to 5 p.m., and there will be a Talent Showcase of former pageant queens on the same day from 7 to 9 p.m. The second preliminary will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. The final competition will be held on Sept. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.; during this event, the current Ms. Senior America, Laura Morgan from North Carolina, will transfer her title to the new Ms. Senior America.
