Turnpike Commission warns of scam
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) advises the public that a smishing scam is being attempted. The scam aims to deceive people so they will share their personal financial information to settle outstanding toll amounts.
The texts purport to be from Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Services and center around urgent requests to settle unpaid tolls; the texts claim that the recipient will be charged an additional amount if an overdue balance is not paid. Similar scams have recently been reported by toll agencies across the country.
People who receive an unsolicited text, email, or similar message suggesting it is from the PTC or another toll agency should not click on the link. E-ZPass account holders and Toll By Plate customers can use approved safe methods to check their accounts such as the official PTC E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app available from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.
Those who receive a fraudulent text may file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3 .gov. The site is dedicated to sharing information on internet crimes across law enforcement agencies.
To learn more about how to stay safe from scams, visit www.paturnpike .com/about-us/security -fraud.
Ben & Tim Day will also include a silent auction, vendors, a chicken barbecue, and a car wash.
Ben & Tim Day honors the memory of Ben Yupcavage and Tim Russell, Hershey High School student-athletes who died in an automobile accident in 1992. Their families established a memorial fund, which awards educational scholarships to high school students as well as donations to local charities that benefit students.

www.PA.gov to deliver human-centered digital experiences and make Commonwealth services easier to find.
Launched in 2009, 511PA is a statewide travel information service operated by PennDOT and PA Turnpike that is designed to help reduce congestion and improve safety on Pennsylvania roadways. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional alerts by searching for “511PA” on X. Through the “Driving Mode” feature, motorists can receive these alerts hands-free so they can
focus on safely driving.
The redesigned 511PA mobile app has several new features, including the ability to limit alerts to the driver’s route, a new “My Cameras” feature, and the option for alternate routes. The updated website has been completely redesigned to be more user-friendly and includes new personalization and customization to make it easier to access the information users most care about. The phone system now provides a more streamlined menu to get callers the information they need faster. Users can also sign up for personalized travel alerts at www.511pa.com. Current 511PA personal alert subscribers need to create a new account in the updated system and set up their preferences to continue receiving alerts. A transformed 511PA app is

Giant offers back-toschool lunch ideas

featuring suspense, life lessons, and humor. The book includes elements of historical fiction.
“Sophie’s Gifts” is available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats, and an audiobook will be available in the late fall.
Copies of the books may be purchased online from Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and the iTunes Store.
Copies will also be available to purchase using cash or a major credit card at the author’s upcoming events. Copies of the book are available to borrow from the Lebanon Community Library, William H. & Marion C. Alexander Family Library in Hummelstown, and Hershey Public Library.
The Giant Company’s team of dietitians shared five solutions to help families simplify food preparation for back-to-school lunches.
First, parents should get their children involved. Have children make a list of their favorite foods from each food group - starch, protein, vegetable, fruit, and dairy - and get them excited by bringing them to the store to shop for their favorites. Together, parents and children can build a balanced lunch, making sure children have one item from each of the five food groups. Ideas for a balanced lunchbox include English muffins, sliced ham, carrots, strawberries, a cheese stick, wheat crackers, hummus, sugar snap peas, clementines and nonfat Greek yogurt.
Second, lunches should contain protein. Protein helps keep stomachs full and minds focused. When thinking about breakfast, lunch and snacks, include quick and easy foods like lunch meat, cheese, nut butters, Greek yogurt or hard-boiled eggs.

In The Net is the destination of play for teams from across the mid-Atlantic region and as far away a Connecticut, Massachusetts and Canada. In 2025, the facility will host more than 1,000 teams that will play more than 1,800 games and take part in 300 practices. There will also be a weekday league play option offered in 2025. Weaver also announced that In The Net has expanded its relationships with national brands such as Perfect Game, Prep Baseball Report, USA and USSSA Softball.
In The Net is located in South Londonderry Township, the anchor of the Flight Path Business Park. Situated on 30 acres, In The Net offers competitors both indoor and outdoor venues. For more information, call 717-838-8706 or visit www.inthenet.com.
The third tip is to get colorful. Colorful fruits and vegetables provide a variety of nutrients. Entice kids with daily color challenges to encourage produce variety. For example, Monday’s lunch can focus on red foods, Tuesday’s meal can feature orange foods, and so on.
Fourth, parents should stock convenience items. Be prepared with pre-sliced apple packs, granola bars, applesauce pouches and trail mixes available for grab-and-go after-school snacks, and load up on frozen waffles and pancakes, fruit cups, oatmeal pouches and drinkable yogurts for easy breakfasts.
The fifth tip is to make dinner easy. Balanced dinners do not have to be elaborate. Keep it simple on busy weeknights with tried-and-true winners like breakfast for dinner or sandwiches with no-cook sides.
Giant’s dietitians also offer easy meal and snack ideas and recipes, simplified with five or fewer ingredients, at www.giant
Postcard exhibit will feature international art
BY CATHY MOLITORIS
When it comes to art, a postcard can pack a powerful punch. That’s the idea behind the International Postcard Art Invitational. The exhibit will feature art postcards from around the world and will run from Saturday, Aug. 10, through Saturday, Aug. 31, at the National Watch and Clock Museum, 514 Poplar St., Columbia.
“This is the fourth year for the postcard exhibit,” said Janette Toth-Musser, a board member of Create Columbia, the organization behind the exhibit. “Participants create their own postcards and mail them to us through the postal service. Due to the ephemeral nature of them, we hope they’ll mail them to us complete with the stamp and cancellation markings.”
Artists are encouraged to size their entries at 6 by 4.25 inches, but there is a little flexibility in size, she noted. “Artists can use any medium they’re comfortable with, even mixing mediums: watercolors, paint, pencil, photographs, collage, crayons, whatever they wish,” Toth-Musser shared. “It’s a great opportunity to experiment, to push their limits.”
All postcards must feature original art created by the artist making the submission. “Your submission can be in the style of fine art or simply conceptual,” she said. “No matter the style or approach, participants
should have fun with it.”
Because the postcards will be exhibited at the Watch and Clock Museum, artists are encouraged to include a visual element that references the theme “Time Flies.”
Each artist is invited to submit two postcards, and artists are asked to include their name on each of their works as well as their city and country. “In past years, we’ve received entries from countries like France, Japan, England, Germany, Spain, Belarus, Canada, Poland, Russia, China and, of course, the USA,” TothMusser noted.
There is no entry fee for the show, and no awards are presented. It’s just a fun way to display creativity from around the world, she said.
“The thing that’s special about this exhibit is that any visitor who finds that they love a few of the entries has a chance to own it,” she explained. “On the final day of the exhibit - Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning at
2 p.m. and ending promptly at 4 p.m. - visitors can submit a bid to own one or more cards.” All remaining entries may be sold during future fundraising events for Create Columbia, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the history and culture of Columbia.
Entries are still being accepted for the show and must be received by
Wednesday, Aug. 7. For submission details, visit the Create Columbia Facebook page.
The exhibit will run during museum hours, which are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. For more information on Create Columbia, visit www.createcolumbia.org.

Habitat for Humanity, ReStore move to new location
Lancaster Habitat
ReStore has relocated its donation center and retail store to a new, leased building at 1061 Manheim Pike in Lancaster and celebrated its new space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening on June 22. Additionally, Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity has moved its office from Fairview Avenue in downtown Lancaster into the upper level of the new ReStore building. The move marks the first time that the two teams will operate in the same space.
The building, developed by Deerin Companies and built by Scenic Ridge Construction, will offer ReStore 33,180 square feet of retail space, as compared to the 19,760 square feet at its previous location at 155 Independence Court
in Lancaster. The Habitat office will have 5,236 square feet to house its 10-member staff. The store also features 156 parking spots, a designated donation drop-off area, electric car charging stations, and training space for its volunteer program. ReStore manager Ben Mathus plans to regularly schedule food trucks at the store for customers’ enjoyment.
ReStore accepts and resells gently used and new home goods and building materials. Proceeds from sales directly support Lancaster Lebanon Habitat’s affordable homeownership mission throughout Lancaster and Lebanon counties. The store had been located off Route 30 since 2003. Habitat leadership made a decision to relocate the store due to sales growth and increase in donation procurement over the past several years.
ReStore will be open on Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a shift to one hour later than previous operations to better serve customer demand. The Habitat program team will operate from the building on Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by the store’s official grand opening for the public. The event included food trucks and live music by Seraphin Soul, featuring Ian Sanchez-Herasme, also known as PINK i. Sanchez-Herasme was a former ReStore employee and had written original music for the store, including a new jingle about its relocation.
