lthough it will have a different look this year because of the pandemic, Little Hands Big Plans’ 13th annual motorcycle ride to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation will take place on Sunday, April 25, at the Southern End Community Association’s park, 299 Park Ave., Quarryville. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and the ride will begin at 1 p.m. Following the ride, Kids Day will take place in the park from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. In a typical year, the group would meet at the park and then follow a scenic route to Wilmington, Del., where attendees would have an ice cream social with families at the Ronald McDonald House. This house provides lodging for families
with children receiving treatment from Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Patients who were well enough also attended the social. This year, as was the case in 2020, the motorcycle ride will not travel to Delaware because of visitation and capacity restrictions at the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Instead, the ride will be local. “We are doing a local scenic route and coming back to the park, where we will have a Kids Day for children with special needs (and their siblings) to try to make it a similar experience,” said event organizer Marsha Wagner, one of the family members who founded the Little Hands Big Plans charity. “We will have ice cream sundaes and little games for the kids to play, and a DJ

Virtual Food Drives Needed Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) will launch another virtual food drive. The virtual food drive is an online tool allowing individuals and organizations to raise funds to help the CPFB purchase and distribute large quantities of fresh, nutritious, and shelf-stable healthy foods at deeply reduced rates. Every dollar raised through the virtual food drive will help the food bank distribute more than six
healthy meals to those in need throughout 27 central Pennsylvania counties. CPFB is currently serving more than 200,000 individuals per month through its network of 1,000 partner agencies and programs, and it distributes more than 1.3 million pounds of food per week. Hosting a virtual food drive allows community members to reach more of these individuals by helping the food bank purchase fresh
fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and proteins, in addition to nonperishable food items. Readers interested in starting a virtual food drive on behalf of the CPFB are encouraged to visit www.central pafoodbank.org. Instructions for setting up a drive can be found under the Ways to Give tab. For additional details, readers may contact vfd@ centralpafoodbank.org or 717564-1700.

She’s been fantastic,” Grim commented. “Every business should have a SCORE mentor.” With how important websites are, Grim advocated spending time, if not money, to develop one. Domain names can be purchased relatively inexpensively from Google, and free or low-cost site builders like Wix, Weebly, and Webs are available. Grim recommends using SquareSpace, which has a strong search engine optimization (SEO) framework that helps websites become

With a business partner, he built Sparrow Websites before recently shifting his focus from doing the design work to helping business owners develop content and opening Bootstrap Local. “I have a passion for those businesses who have a great idea, a lot of grit and determination, but don’t have a huge budget for marketing,” Grim said. Even if a podcast is not local, the link will point back to the business page, which will improve rankings in search results. Other resources for business owners include www.canva.com for creating attractive visuals and www.answerthepublic.com for discovering what questions potential customers are asking. “(Go here) if you want to create helpful (website) content but don’t know where to start,” Grim advised. Before starting, however, business owners should plan a good messaging strategy by identifying their target audience and how the business’ service or product can solve customers’ problems, and they should create a mood board, which will lead to the creation of a style guide. Grim recommended visiting www.mystorybrand.com to help with that process. Once the site is live on the web, the next thing is to update it on a regular basis through blog posts, video content, and voice recordings. These can be uncomfortable at first, Grim noted. “For most businesses, in order to grow, (owners) need to step out a bit,” Grim shared. “For a while, I didn’t like being on camera, so I didn’t do anything, but then I discovered podcasts. BASIS from pg 1 When Dan felt God calling him to join the ministry, he trained to become an associate. “(The training) changed the way I looked at things,” he said, noting that he learned about different ways individuals handle grief. Dan acknowledged that because men and women often grieve differently, BASIS has styled the support group atmosphere to be comfortable for all involved. Speaking is not required, but those who wish to are encouraged to share their feelings. The pandemic and consequent mitigation efforts have spurred the ministry to expand its offerings. Citing rising suicide rates and COVID-19 losses, Dan noted, “Families need to connect, and we are looking to branch out to other churches throughout the county.” Dan is meeting with pastors and heads of ministries to find ways to bring the support BASIS offers to new places in Lancaster County and beyond. Currently, two meetings are held monthly in Lancaster County - one in Paradise and the other in Akron. Masking and social distancing measures are used to promote safety during the meetings. Readers who are interested in joining or forming a BASIS group may call Dan at 717859-4777 or email dsteinman@ hvmi.org. More information about BASIS may be found at www.hvmi.org.
