A-Team Slates Talent Show At Wesley Church By Marcella Peyre-Ferry
Wesley Church’s A-Team will hold its annual talent show on Sunday, May 19, at 6 p.m. at the church, 1104 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville. The community is invited to enjoy the event, during which members of the group will show off their talents. “We have singing, we have piano playing, we have comedy, and we have a couple of surprises,” said Tami Shaub, special needs coordinator at Wesley Church. “We have 12 acts, and we are doing some group things.” Admission to the talent show will be free of charge, and people of all ages are welcome to attend. About 20 members of the A-Team are expected to participate. “They have the opportunity of being on stage in the spotlight, and sometimes it’s the only opportunity for them to do that,” Shaub said. The A-Team has 20 to 25 members,
ranging in age from 5 to 60, plus helpers. The A-Team was created by Wesley Church as a special needs ministry for people of all ages. Each week, there is Sunday school, as well as services for the group. The members also meet on the first and third Thursdays of every month. There are also parent respite nights and field trips. Meetings are open to anyone who is interested in participating either as part of the group or as a helper. “No matter what we’re doing, the students look forward to being together. They’ve grown great relationships with each other,” Shaub said. “That’s what it’s really all about: getting together and having fun where they can be themselves.” This is the seventh year for the talent show, which has been known to draw 300 to 400 audience members. A-Team members have been

Wally Calderon is overseeing the Servant Stage production of “Jump, Jive, and Jukebox!” with enthusiasm and energy. Not only is Calderon directing the nearly 30-member cast of teenagers, but he is the choreographer and the person who chose the 20 musical numbers that span the decades from the 1950s to the present and cover genres from rock to pop to Broadway with a special emphasis on the music of the 1980s thrown in. Perhaps, however, Calderon’s most crucial role is that of teacher. “I teach these students how to put all their gifts and talents together,” noted Calderon. “It’s a huge reward to see (students) learn to be supportive of one another … and to see each student rise to the challenge.” Servant Stage’s newest show will be performed in the Good Shepherd Chapel at Lancaster Bible College, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, at 3 and 7 p.m. each day. The show has also been slated to be performed during May at several area retirement communities, including Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, Garden Spot Village, Luther Acres, and

performers.” Kolby Colmary, a veteran of several Servant Stage shows, noted that he loves that the show goes to nursing homes to reach people who cannot come to the theater. Under Calderon’s direction, the students have become acutely aware of how audiences respond to them. “You have to learn how to adapt how you’re interacting to reach every audience,” explained Isabel Subacz, who serves as dance captain for the show. Brayden agreed, saying, “It’s so fun to see the audience’s faces light up when they recognize the music and sing along.” Performances are open to the public on a pay-what-you-will basis. Lancaster-area students are rehearsing to present “Jump, Jive, and Jukebox!” in four shows at Lancaster Bible College on May 18 and 19. The all-teenage cast will perform songs from the 1950s through the present. Broadway show tunes and songs from the 1980s will be included.

Calvary Fellowship Homes. More than 80 students tried out to be part of the Servant Stage 2019 season, and Calderon believes the turnout was due to the many young people who were interested in the musical revue that he named “Jump, Jive, and Jukebox!” “It’s a revue of anything you would want to hear when you put your quarter in the jukebox,” explained Calderon. “There’s a lot of variation,” he stated, adding that “Wild Thing,” “Footloose,” and “Do You Love Me?” will be included, along with songs by New Kids on the Block and music from the Broadway hit “Hamilton.” Calderon endeavors to add depth to each number to give audiences more than song and dance. “We find little stories within each song,” he said. “It’s acting first. The song was written for a reason, so let’s try to tell a story within one song.” The intensive rehearsal process gave the cast members only a week to become familiar with the songs in the show before beginning rehearsals on March 24. “We meet each person where they are and push them a little farther in their training,” said Calderon. “The talent is incredible, and I am just thrilled at what they have been able to
accomplish in such a short time.” Students who are taking part in the show are responding to the technique. “I grew up doing dance and theater separately,” said Mackenzie Neff. “Getting to do theater with dancing is kind of a dream. It helps all of us stretch ourselves.” “It’s really challenging,” noted Sydney Norgaard, who wanted to take part in the show after seeing her brother, Brayden, perform in last year’s revue. “Once we’re able to (perform) the number, it is satisfying. Teamwork plays a role in that.” Mackenzie is enjoying watching that process unfold as opening night approaches. “It’s overwhelming to see all the talent coming together creating this,” she said. “Watching everyone come together as a team supporting and challenging each other makes us more independent as

Rita Rhoads Reed, looking at the records of the members of the American Association of Birth Centers. In those four decades, Birth Care’s certified nurse-midwives have welcomed more than 9,000 babies into the world. In 2018, Birth Care’s clients delivered 501 babies, including two sets of twins. “We’re delivering the grandchildren of our earliest moms,” Saunders remarked. Birth Care’s certified nursemidwives have office hours in Bart and Gordonville, deliver babies at the licensed and accredited birth center in Bart, and attend births at WellSpan Ephrata Hospital. One of the hallmarks of Birth Care is its commitment to making personalized care to mothers and new babies available regardless of ability to pay. Between 75 and 80 percent of Birth Care’s clients are uninsured. “I think that’s an important thing for people to know,” Ketcham said, noting that Birth Care offers a sliding fee scale based on clients’ financial condition. The board of directors also forgives the bills of families in dire need.

The preview will open at 8:30 a.m., with coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and doughnuts available for purchase. Reed and the members of the sale committee have collected a variety of items for the auction, and more have been pledged. “Merchants are very supportive in this community,” Saunders said. Salegoers may expect to see quilts and comforters, crafts, plants, garden items, a child’s picnic table, a rabbit hutch, a shed, lots of gift certificates, a giant glass jar partly filled with buttons, a brand-new lawn mower, hanging baskets, antiques, and more. “There will still be a lot of surprises that people will give us,” Ketcham commented. At noon, drawings for themed baskets will take place. The drawings are a popular feature of the benefit sale, and entrants must be present to win.
When attendees are hungry, there will be a number of foods to choose from, such as chicken barbecue, subs, cheesesteaks, fried shrimp, hot dogs, and burgers. Side and dessert offerings will include soup, fries, handrolled soft pretzels, soft-serve ice cream, fresh fruit, and freshly squeezed lemonade. A separate stand will sell individually priced candy. A few years ago, Birth Care added a Family Fun Day element to the benefit sale. Barrel train rides, mechanical bull rides, a bounce house, and an inflatable obstacle course will be available for youngsters to enjoy free of charge. The activities will be supervised by qualified individuals so parents will be free to participate in the auctions, Saunders said. “We’ve put a lot of emphasis on the Family Fun Day,” Ketcham said. “Yes, we want to make money, but we want to give back to the families we serve,” Saunders added. For more information about Birth Care or to donate items to the benefit sale, readers may call 717-330-5485 or 717-786-5506, email info@birthcaremid wives.com, or visit www.birth caremidwives.com.

National EMS Week from pg 1 By Dayna M. Reidenouer
National EMS Week will be observed this year from Sunday, May 19, to Saturday, May 25. The week was created to recognize the importance of emergency medical services (EMS) and to honor the first responders who provide life-saving medical care. “EMS STRONG - National EMS Week has been declared by Gov. Tom Wolf, who encourages all citizens to recognize the value and the accomplishments of EMS providers and to thank them for their invaluable service to our
communities,” said Marisa Seubert, marketing and development coordinator for Lancaster EMS. Lancaster EMS serves most of southern Lancaster County as well as some of the eastern and western parts of the county. It has a fleet of 45 vehicles operating from 11 locations. In 2018, Lancaster EMS responded to 37,831 requests for services. Seubert noted that in addition to emergency medical care, Lancaster EMS also provides non-emergency medical transport services, emergency medical technician
and paramedic education, public health care and education programs, community paramedics, medical standby coverage at special events, and tactical paramedics to the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team. “National EMS Week is an optimal time to bring EMS providers and the community together through awareness and outreach events,” Seubert said. “We are offering the public an opportunity to meet us and learn more about what we do for our community.” The week will kick off on May 19 with an EMS Appreciation Family Picnic Day at the
Lancaster Barnstormers game. On Monday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the public is invited to attend open houses at the Millersville station, 100 E. Charlotte St., and the Lincoln Highway station, 1829 Lincoln Highway, Lancaster. Tours of the stations will be available, and visitors may meet staff members, learn about EMS, and observe demonstrations of hands-only CPR and Stop the Bleed. Tuesday, May 21, has been designated SAVE-A-LIFE Day. Lancaster EMS will be represented in Lancaster’s Penn Square from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mayor Danene Sorace is slated to read the National EMS Week procla-
mation at noon. During the event, Lancaster EMS will offer demonstrations of hands-only CPR, Stop the Bleed, and naloxone administration. Resources for opioid addiction, the safe disposal of medication, and stroke awareness will be available. A country music station will broadcast during the event, and Lancaster Barnstormers mascot Cylo will pose for pictures with attendees. Wednesday, May 22, will be EMS for Children Day. Lancaster EMS members will visit elementary schools in Penn Manor, Solanco, Conestoga Valley, and Lancaster school districts. Thursday, May 23, will be

L.H. Brubaker Appliances Marks 87th Anniversary
R038688
L.H. Brubaker Appliances and Water Treatment, with three locations in Lancaster and Mechanicsburg, is celebrating its 87th anniversary. In 1932, Lester H. Brubaker opened a store providing the sales and service of farm equipment in Strasburg. At that time, the only appliances offered were large International freezers used mostly by farmers. In 1960, Donald H. Frank joined the sales and parts department at L.H. Brubaker. Shortly thereafter, Lester permitted General Electric (GE) to display appliances in the showroom. The first year L.H. Brubaker offered appliances, only 90 sold, but those sales were thanks to Donald. Considering appliance

sales not to be a good business decision, Lester informed GE that he had decided to get out of the appliance business. GE countered with a compliment, saying that the manufacturer never liked to end business relationships with a reputable company that paid its bills on time, and it requested that a few pieces be displayed in a corner of the showroom and that Donald be allowed to sell them with the tractors and lawn mowers. Lester agreed. That year, Donald sold 295 pieces, and the following year saw sales of 525 appliances. The sales numbers continued to climb as years went by. In 1972, Donald and his wife, Elnora, bought L.H. Brubaker
from Lester, and it became solely an appliance store. Counting the two Franks, the store had 11 employees. The following year, Donald’s oldest son, Donald L. Frank Sr., joined the family business. In the fall of 1974, L.H. Brubaker moved into a new store that sat beside the original location on Strasburg Pike. The facility at 340 Strasburg Pike, Lancaster, continues to be the corporate headquarters and main showroom. The next several decades saw notable expansion of the business. Water treatment products

SCORE Awards from pg 1 pared to enter the next half-century,” Kerwin said. Millersville University (MU) president Daniel Wubah presented an award to Kurt Moon, who created STR Resources & Associates. “One of the reasons Lancaster is a special place is because of the interconnectedness,” Wubah said, demonstrating this by giving a shout-out to Foxduck co-founder Rebecca Wood, who is studying business at MU. Wubah also announced that MU has a new initiative in process, that of developing a mentorship office reminiscent of SCORE’s work, but for students. Moon shared that SCORE mentor Hugh McMaster helped him with the practical aspects of establishing and growing a business, but McMaster also provided crucial emotional support as well. “‘You have tremendous value to bring to clients,’” Moon reported McMaster as saying. “Those examples pushed me through self-doubt.” In 1996, Leigh Lindsay inadvertently started a theater in an art studio. In 2018, that theater, Zoetropolis, moved into a new space and is in the final stages of opening a restaurant. “We are so grateful for SCORE,” said partner Matt Hostetter. “Mentor and ‘business dad’ Lou Davenport provided us with courage to keep with our passion project and get this far.” St. Cyr, who will be the next chapter president when Bewley’s term concludes this year, presented SCORE’s first community partner award to Heather Sharpe and Katie Basile of the Duke Street Business Center. He noted that during the first meeting clients have with SCORE, they are directed to meet with Basile and learn about the center’s resources. In closing, Bewley remarked, “SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon is proud to help you fulfill your vision and goals. If you’re inspired and want to be a mentor or donate, contact us.” For more information, readers may call 717-397-3092 or visit www.lancaster.score.org.

“These organizations, and the people running them, represent some of the best small businesses the Lancaster-Lebanon area has to offer,” said chapter president Bobb Bewley. “We are so fortunate to have them in our community, and we here at SCORE are honored to have worked with them as mentors.” SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon has 71 volunteer mentors who provided 2,668 mentoring sessions, along with 89 workshops and roundtables, and worked with 646 new clients in 2018. When Clint Krushinsky presented an award to Monica Rakoczy of EnterTRAINING Solutions, he said, “SCORE helps businesses improve and make them the best they can be.” Rakoczy concurred, relating a story of tragedy avoided because a worker recognized unsafe trenching from a worksite safety seminar she provided. Mentor Jerry Glenn helped Rakoczy develop her training business, and she was recently asked to speak at Con Expo in Las Vegas, which is a dream come true. Joshua Wood of Foxduck - his 3-year-old daughter supplied the company’s name - credited SCORE for the screen-printing company’s success. “SCORE cared about our mission as much as we did,” Wood said, noting that the mission and process were solidified by meetings with mentor Eric Parker. “We will continue to utilize SCORE services because it’s an outstanding resource.” Lebanon Valley Exposition Center & Fairgrounds (LVECF) was the longest-running entity to receive an award. The organization was started in 1970, and in preparation for its next 50 years, the board of directors began developing a strategic plan and a direction for the future. Kevin St. Cyr mentored executive director Patrick Kerwin, who is LVECF’s only full-time employee, and he helped the board of directors develop mission and vision statements. “Thanks to SCORE and our strategic plan, we feel well-pre-

Track Teams Battle Ephrata, Compete in Leagues by Mona Steinhauer
The track and field teams capped their regular season last week in Ephrata against two section leading squads. And while a team win was unlikely, the Solanco squads competed toughly. “Our main goal was to improve our marks or times,” said head coach Ivan Haines. “I cannot express how proud the staff and I are of the teams. Knowing, going in, that they were up against two very strong squads, our teams competed hard, setting a starting place to be picked up next year.” The boys’ team saw their record fall to 1-6 with a 106-44 loss to a 6-1 Ephrata squad. The boys’ earned just four wins on the day and two went to Dom Messano. The junior again was tops in the long (20-11.5) and triple jumps (40-8.25). The Mules again showed their strength in the throws, sweeping the shot put and giving up just seven points in the three events combined. Nate Neuhauser, with a personal best 45-3.75 in the shot, finished first with Mike Keefer adding a second place PR of 40-11.25. Shaneef Carter completed the sweep with a 36-4. Neuhauser also finished second in the discus (108-4) behind Gabe LaMonica’s 119-11. Josh Firlein finished Photo by Stef Supplee second in the javelin with a 141-9, a Solanco’s Lucas Boid leaves the bar hanging on his pole vault 15 foot improvement.
“All of these throwers are underclassmen,” Haines pointed out. “As this team continues to improve and grow during the off season, they will be a team to watch next year.” Also placing in two events was Colin Althoff with a second in the 400 (51.4) and a third in the 200 (23.2), and Matt Weicksel with a second in the 110 hurdles (17.8) and a third in the 300’s (45.7). Chipping in with third place points were Mike Morales (pole vault, 9-6), David Harvey (110 hurdles, 17.8) and Ryan Vanover (100, 11.3). Things didn’t get any easier for the girls who battled the undefeated Mounts in a 120-30 loss. Troyanna Miller was the only winner this time out. The senior recorded a personal best 34-11.75 in the shot and added a first in the discus as well with a 105-11. Backing up Miller in the throws was Maddie Mosley with a third in the shot (32-1) and Peyton Jennings and Hannah Wood in the javelin, throwing 91-10 for second and 83-8 for third respectively. “The throws were the only events the girls were able to outscore Ephrata,” noted Haines. Also in the field, Aleksa Burger led the jumpers with seconds in the long (16-2) and triple jumps (32-0) while Greta Plechner cleared 4-6 for third place in the high jump.
In the pole vault, Keirth Paine and Morgan Delong went 2-3 respectively, clearing 8-6 and 8-0. On the track, Alana Yoder ran a personal best 26.8 for second place in the 200 and Jadan Forren was third in the 400 with a 1:06.4. “This is a young team of girls who have a good future,” Haines said. “Their commitment and hard work is paying off as they earned needed experience. We will continue to practice hard.” At Hempfield on Friday and Saturday the teams competed in the L-L League Championships and came
home with a handful of top eight finishes. Leading that pack was Althoff who matched his seed with a third place finish in the 400 (51.17). Backing that up was Miller, who was not seeded in the top five but finished fourth in the shot put with a personal best 35-6. She and Plechner, who was eighth in the high jump (4-6) were the only girls to place. The boys’ 4x400 relay team of Althoff, Angel Morales, Jose Serrano and Austin Wood settled for fifth place with a 3:39. Wood also competed in the 800 and finished eighth with a 52.32. Neuhauser wrapped up the
attempt in the Mules’ 106-44 Section Two loss at Ephrata last Monday.

FRIDAY FRIDAY, MAY 17
ADVERTISER - Solanco Edition (the first of their last six wins) was huge,” he continued. “We’ve gained some momentum since then.” The Mares hosted Pequea Valley, the second place team out of Section Four and the fourth ranked team in District 3A, in their last home game of the season last Tuesday. A six run first inning sparked a 13-2 five inning win. “I thought we had the potential to score some runs against them,” said Miller. “We did see their No. 2 pitcher
but we hit the ball hard. We were confident after that first inning.” The Mares batted around in that opening inning and collected five of their 14 hits. Kendal Janssen opened with a one out single up the middle, stole second and scored on Jade Eshleman’s triple. Sierra Dean followed with a first pitch RBI single and Becca Foulk added a first pitch run scoring double for a quick 3-0 lead.
A hit batter and an error led to Solanco’s fourth run while a Desiree DeHaven single to right field plated the las two runs of the frame. The Mares made it 11-0 with a fiverun third inning. Kelsey Sheets and DeHaven cracked back-to-back RBI singles, and Kara McClune’s sac fly pushed in the ninth run of the game. Janssen’s grounder past third made it 8-zip and Eshleman followed with an infield single to cap the scoring. Pequea threatened in the fourth but had a runner thrown out at home and Solanco picked up two more runs in the home half on McClune’s double. The Braves finally broke through with two runs in the fifth, both with two outs, but it wasn’t enough. Dean tossed a three-hitter, striking out four and walking one, to earn the win. “Sierra pitched well on senior night,” said Miller. “The last home game for seniors (Dean, DeHaven, McClune, Hanna Phillips, Noelle Schneider, Kelsey Sheets, Skyla Townsley) is always special. You want them to win.” Thursday the team traveled to Fleetwood to take on the 15th ranked team in 4A. Phillips returned to the circle and anchored a 5-2 victory. “Hanna pitched very well,” said Miller. “They scored two in the first but by the third inning she was in a Photo by Mona Steinhauer groove. She just got stronger as the Solanco shortstop Kara McClune sets up to field the Pequea Valley ground ball during the Mares’ game went on.” 13-2 nonleague win at home last Tuesday. Solanco tied the game at 2-2 in the third and took the lead for good in the fourth when Eshleman clubbed a two out, two run homer. “She crushed another one,” said Miller, “over dead center. And defensively, we made the plays. Fleetwood is a good team and this was their senior night.” The Mares capped the scoring in the fifth. Townsley doubled and scored on an error. BASEBALL The baseball team rode a nine game win streak into the league playoffs this past Saturday at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field. Unfortunately that streak came to a close when Manheim Central broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning and held on for a 3-1 win. “This was a real pitcher’s duel that came down to one or two moments,” said head coach Tom Fish. Solanco jumped in front in the top of the first on Mike May’s two out, two strike single that plated Dawson Kreider who walked to start Photo by Mona Steinhauer Solanco’s Kelsey Sheets is safe at home as Pequea Valley catcher Hailey Yothers can’t handle the the game. and so strong for us on the mound all year. They have started 18 of our 20 games, which is very unusual for high school baseball,” he added. “It helped that we got some luck from Mother Nature.” Mike May doubled in Joel McGuire in the first inning and May scored on a Hunter Shaw base hit. In the fifth, Tim Fetterman singled in McGuire, who reached on a base hit and stole second to lead off the inning. “York Suburban is having a challenging season but we wanted our best out there for senior day,” said Fish. “All ten of our seniors (Stively, Fox, McGuire, Fetterman, Zac Fritz, Sam Buckwalter, John Murray, Hunter Shaw, Nate Butler) got to play and each contributed to the win, either offensively, defensively, or on the mound. They’re a very special group.” Wednesday a five-run first inning sparked an 8-3 win over Daniel Boone. “Hayden (3 strikeouts, 0 walks) pitched a second straight complete game,” said Fish. “Daniel Boone is a very strong team in our district, heading to the playoffs as we are. However, they were maybe a little short on pitching on this day,” he added, “and we took advantage.” Helped along by four walks, RBI singles by Murray, McGuire and Fox, and a clutch two run single by Sam Buckwalter gave the Mules a 5-0 lead. “Later in the game, Murray doubled in Joel McGuire, who also doubled,” noted Fish. “That was more than enough for Hayden, who pitched seven great innings against a strong hitting team, allowing only three runs, seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks,” he continued. “His control and poise on the mound has never been better.”

Three at 19-2 overall, tied the game in the second inning on a fielder’s choice ground out. Both teams traded zeros over the next two innings before the Barons pulled away for good in the fifth. “Corey Stively started for us on the mound and battled all game long,” said Fish, “not just a tough opponent but a small strike zone as well and he got into some trouble. A single and a walk put two men on and Central’s three hole hitter drove a one out, 3-2 fastball deep into left center, scoring two runs. That turned out to be enough. “In total, we had 13 baserunners reach,” he continued. “We battled the two best pitchers Manheim Central could throw out there, but only one would cross the plate. We had our chances, and certainly can take some positives from the game, but, unfortunately, our run in leagues was a short one.” For the first time since 2012, the Mules will host a district playoff game on Monday, May 20. “This is a special group,” said Fish. “We will bounce back.” Earlier in the week, the Mules, on senior day, worked a 3-0 shutout over York Suburban, their third shutout of the season and second straight, having blanked Donegal just three days prior. Stively struck out eight and walked two over six innings of work and Hayden Fox picked up the save with a pair of strikeouts in the last inning. The two combined for a no-hitter. “And on senior day no less,” said Fish. “How fitting because those two have been so important to us,

SOFTBALL Looking to qualify for the district playoffs, Solanco’s softball team earned two wins last week and have won six of their last seven games. “If we wanted our season to continue, we had to win,” said head coach Brett Miller. “The resilience of these young ladies is amazing. Heart Of Lancaster Show To Debut Spring Event come and like it. We’ve just gotten a lot more artwork than I expected for it being the first spring show.” Promoting the importance of art to the community is a priority for Hobday, who is a watercolor artist herself. She also taught art at Hempfield High School for 25 years. The fall Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show has grown into a two-day event and earned a ranking as one of the Top 200 Best Shows in the Country from Sunshine Artist magazine. The 32nd annual fall Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1. For more information about the Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show, readers may visit www.hlcshow.com.

Over the years, Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show founder and chairperson Marilyn Hobday received numerous requests from exhibitors for a spring show to be added into the calendar in addition to the traditional fall event. “Finally after enough prodding, I decided to go for it,” said Hobday with a laugh. “Our main focus for this first year is just getting a lot of quality art work,” Hobday continued. “It’s going to be a fun show. I think this will get people excited about the fall show, and I think they’re really going to complement each other.” The inaugural spring Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Root’s Country Market, 705 Graystone Road, Manheim. Admission and parking are both free, and the outdoor show will take place rain or shine. Approximately 100 exhibitors will fill the stands at the spring show, including painters, photographers, jewelers, potters, woodworkers, and others - representing a range of styles within their fields, from traditional to contemporary and beyond. “It’s a nice eclectic show, and I like that there’s something there for every price point,” Hobday added.
“There are a lot of new (exhibitors) coming, and it’s almost fifty-fifty with arts and crafts,” noted Hobday. Some of the artists and crafters will be traveling from outside the central Pennsylvania region to participate in the show, but Hobday emphasized that they all feature handmade work. Showcasing original work rather than reproductions has been of the utmost importance to Hobday for the fall show as well, which has been held for 31 years and counting. Plenty of food and beverage options will be available for folks to purchase throughout the grounds of Root’s as well. Adding a spring show has certainly come with its challenges, but Hobday is optimistic that the
new event will fill a void in Lancaster and hopefully be a hit with the community. “A lot of the spring shows that had been happening aren’t anymore,” she explained. “I’m hoping people will
