Lapp Electrical Service Inc. is based around one simple goal: service. Whether it means installing a ceiling fan inside a customer’s home or completing a full-facility LED lighting retrofit for a business owner, Lapp strives to provide solutions for its customers - no matter how small or large the project. Lapp Electrical Service Inc. has recently agreed to terms with Wilco Electric to purchase the residential department of Wilco. Lapp Electric representatives note that the Lapp team, with corporate offices located at 2420 Gehman Lane, Lancaster, is thankful and excited to bring its electrical experience and solutions to the many residential customers whom Wilco serviced so well over the last 80-plus years. “At Lapp Electric, we believe strongly in our three core values to help us adapt to the multitude of opportunities and challenges in business today,” said CEO Tim Lapp, coowner of the business with CFO Greg Lapp. “Our team of individuals thrives on going above and beyond expectations and stands united in our core beliefs of superior service to others, open and honest communication and gratefulness. We are truly amped up,
proud and forever grateful to work and live in southcentral Pennsylvania.” Lapp Electric’s vans are a familiar sight in southcentral Pennsylvania, especially as they respond to service calls. “We live by the motto #LappToTheRescue,” Tim said. Well-versed in all types of residential, commercial and industrial electrical projects, Lapp Electric provides 24-hour emergency service, next-day service and scheduled service to best serve customers’ needs. According to Tim and Greg, the familyowned company is “powered by people going into the next generation.” The leadership philosophy at Lapp is one of service and gratitude. As second-generation business owners since 2002, Greg and Tim strive to continue to carry on the positive ideals that their father and mother instilled in them. “Our dad built this business through genuine relationships, and we are doing our very best to continue that legacy,” Tim said. In 2018, Lapp Electric was named one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania. This year, Lapp Electric is celebrating its 50th anniversary. New Hope is a nonprofit organization that aims to promote the healing and abundant life of individuals and families through Jesus Christ by offering affordable counseling services. The ministry is also dedicated to mobilizing resources of local churches and the community to strengthen relationships. Riddell graduated from Columbia University with a degree in nursing and an interest in psychiatric nursing. As a young person, she accompanied her father, a recruiter for a New Yorkbased college, at conventions, where she saw him model relationship-building skills. Riddell is excited about putting her own skills to use as she resumes relationships that she had formed as the Community Closet’s manager before spending three and a half years working in donor development at Bethany Christian Services in Lancaster. Riddell said that first on her list of things to do is meeting individually with each of New Hope’s board members, the pastors of the organization’s supporting churches, and its donors. She also wants to learn about the other agencies in the Southern End and how New Hope might partner with them. Expressing appreciation to current and past contributors to the ministry and establishing new donors will be part of Riddell’s ongoing work. “Giving can be an act of worship, Riddell said. “I can help (donors) remember the bigger picture, the eternal aspect of (their support). I want to show the impact their gift is making. I get to help people understand why

this center that offers counseling at an affordable rate is important to the community. In the long run, Riddell would like to work with the board to develop a strategic plan. “Having a strategic plan keeps your focus; it keeps everybody going the same direction, she said. “It’s a changing world; we need to be staying current. We want to offer a service the world needs. Currently, New Hope has several part-time counselors available to meet with clients. These individuals are in the process of earning their licensure, so they can offer their services at a low cost. Riddell would like to hire a Spanish-speaking counselor, and she also sees a need for male counselors to join the mostly female staff. Riddell and her husband, John, have lived in Quarryville for more than 30 years. They have four children and several grandchildren. For more information about New Hope Community Life Ministry, readers may visit www.newhopeministry.info, find the organization on Facebook, or call the office at 717-786-2802. The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the winners of its 2019 Safety Training and Evaluation (STEP) Awards and recognized its 2019 OSHA Partners on May 1. Representatives from several member companies accepted their awards at the ABC Safety Awards Dinner. The anchor of ABC’s Safety Awards program is STEP, which provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company’s safety and loss prevention. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidence rates. Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their incident rates. Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participant based on this data.

Mo Lowda & The Humble is the event’s headliner band. The group, which is best known for its progressive songwriting and energetic live performances, is new to FoodStock, Fliszar said. The other bands on the event lineup have played at FoodStock at one time or another. Steel Radiance has been part of the event since the beginning, performing classic rock and blues. Hydroponic Philharmonic, a Grateful Dead tribute band, is back for its second year. Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra is also bringing its big band sound back for another year. Back In Motion, a horn-based band specializing in rock and soul music, is returning to FoodStock after a brief hiatus. The Ogham Stones will bring Celtic rock with a kick to the music festival. More information about the sixth annual FoodStock Music Fest is available at www.foodstockpa.org or by finding the event on Facebook. hunger in Pennsylvania. “In Lancaster County, approximately 59,000 residents, including 1 in 5 children, go hungry on a regular basis,” Fliszar remarked. “Additionally, those depending on food pantries are coming from all walks of life,” he continued. “Looking at the bigger picture, food insecurity not only affects these individuals, it can have a negative impact on the entire community.” Following the festival, the FoodStock board of directors will determine where to disburse the proceeds so they do the most good. Past recipients have included the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, PowerPacks, the Manheim Central Food Pantry, Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services, and Warwick Community Chest. FoodStock organizers are excited about the bands that will perform at the event. “We’ve got a great music lineup this year,” Hayden enthused. “Some of the area’s most talented musicians are coming together to help us fight hunger in our community. Straight out of Philly, Mo Lowda & The Humble recently returned from their European tour, and we’re excited to have them join us.”

The event has been moved to Lancaster from Manheim so that organizers can take full control of the event - the previous venue controlled the layout and concessions - and to ensure that it is familyinclusive and affordable. “Our goal is to maximize attendance and, therefore, maximize the amount of money we can raise for hunger-fighting organizations in our community,” explained Jack Fliszar, FoodStock promotion and marketing coordinator. In the past five years, FoodStock has raised approximately $30,000. Fliszar noted that the event was created by Tom Hayden, who worked for the United States Postal Service and saw firsthand the success of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Hayden wanted to do more, so he created FoodStock Music Festival, which provides funds for local food banks and pantries. “Food insecurity affects people and families from all age groups, and summer months are especially tough,” Fliszar said. He reported that according to www.feedingamerica.org, 1 in 8 people, including 1 in 6 children, struggle with

Joseph Bledsoe III will be the keynote speaker for the Solanco Class of 2019’s graduation on Friday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at the high school football field, 585 Solanco Road, Quarryville. The entire Solanco community is invited. Bledsoe, 2007 Solanco graduate, was on the 4.0 honor roll all four years and was National Honor Society president and a member of the Varsity Club. He played baseball and basketball, serving as team captain of the latter, and was a drummer in the Solanco band. Bledsoe also acknowledged the support and inspiration he received from counselor Kelly Shumaker and teachers Brett Miller, John Girvin, Steve McTaggart and Chris Rachor. He also credits baseball coach Dave Wimer and basketball coach Don Fisher for teaching him lifelong lessons. Bledsoe’s favorite Solanco memories include winning the LancasterLebanon League Section 2 basketball title in both his junior and senior years and winning districts in baseball his senior season. At the Air Force Academy, Bledsoe majored in biology and was class president. After graduating from the Air Force Academy in 2011, he married 2007 Solanco graduate Alicia Brower and moved to Maryland, where Bledsoe attended graduate school at the University of Maryland
