Singers Sought For “Messiah” Chorus By Dayna M. Reidenouer

Anyone who likes to sing is invited to participate in a performance of the Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah” in Quarryville this fall. Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC) worship director Tom Berdos will direct the choir and orchestra, as he did many times when he lived and worked in New Jersey. Berdos started his employment at Memorial UMC in January 2019. “We had a lot of participation, enthusiasm, and joy,” Berdos said of his previous productions. “I hope the Lord blesses (this one) and that happens.” Berdos has contracted about 20 professional musicians to accompany the singers. Soloists with professional opera careers will include Monica Ziglar, soprano; Hanne LadefogedDollase, mezzo; Brian Ernstes, tenor;

and Justin Beck, bass. Berdos noted that Ziglar and Beck are soloists at the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, with which Berdos is also involved. Earlier this year, Berdos hosted rehearsals for a mass choir that performed at Ocean Grove. “I pulled people that I know (as soloists). Since I’m new to the area, I don’t know soloists here,” Berdos said. “I’m putting out an appeal to local people to join us in the chorus, and in the process, I’ll get to know new soloists.” He added, “It gives audiences new voices to hear, and that’s good too.” Some singers who have participated in Berdos’ previous “Messiah” productions

Aaron Wingert of Lancaster was 30 when he experienced his first epileptic seizure. “Everything is normal in your life, and then you wake up in the back of an ambulance,” he said. Nineteen-year-old Nadine DeBalko of Adamstown was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 12 and had to change her perceptions about the disorder. “I thought it was just older people who had it,” she recalled.

Lancaster resident Kerri Michnya never remembers a time without seizures. She was diagnosed at age 10. Now age 42, she has been seizure-free for 11 years. Both Michnya’s and See Walk To End Epilepsy pg 7

Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania staffer Kerri Michnya (left) and volunteers Aaron Wingert (middle) and Nadine DeBalko have helped to plan Lancaster County’s first Walk to End Epilepsy, which will be held in the Lancaster Barnstormers’ stadium on Oct. 12.

Customers Donate Funds For Food Banks In recognition of National Hunger Action Month in September, Giant Food Stores announced that its customers raised $780,676 to support local hunger relief efforts during the biannual Bag Hunger campaign. The company’s Bag Hunger campaign ran from Aug. 25 through Sept. 7 across all Giant and Martin’s stores. According to Feeding America, each dollar raised helps to provide at least 10 meals, meaning that the funds raised during Giant’s Bag Hunger campaign will fund more than 7.8 million meals. Funds raised during the campaign go to more than 100 hunger-relief partners, including food pantries across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Major recipient food banks include Philabundance, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and York County Food Bank. Throughout September, GIANT associates volunteered and made donations at select food banks and pantries to celebrate the contributions. To learn more about the company’s hunger relief programs, readers may visit https://giantfood stores.com/ or https://martins foods.com/. Since 2008, Giant’s Bag Hunger fundraising campaigns have raised more than $12 million.

Harvest Festival from pg 1 By Dayna M. Reidenouer

“(The Europeans who first lived in this area) made practically everything they needed (from red clay): bedpans, roach traps, jugs…” said Bob Hughes, potterin-residence at Conestoga Area Historical Society (CAHS), 51 Kendig Road, Conestoga. In his shop, located with other craftspersons’ shops on the ground floor of the CAHS main building, Bob has those very items on display. Because some of Lancaster County’s soils are rich in red clay, which can be easily fired, redware pottery was common among the Europeans who first moved into the area. “When I find roach traps, they usually smell like molasses,” Bob said, holding a small, conical vessel - almost like an old-fashioned beehive - in his hand. Roaches seeking molasses or honey with which the trap was baited would crawl in and be stuck. The potter’s shop was reorganized this year, and Bob stocked the shelves with examples from his collection. There are shelves of crocks, jugs, vases, and inkwells, and there are even two shelves full of bundt pans and similar ringshaped baking dishes. “I love the way everybody solved their problems a different way,” Bob said, commenting on the variations in design. In contrast to the practical

items, Bob also has a shelf of ring vases that are adaptations of designs spotted in places like the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. “I’ve turned them into story pots,” Bob said. Pointing to a cheerful songbird, he added, “This bird is a 3-D interpretation of (one from) a fraktur.” Redware production was relatively low-tech, and a farmer could work part time to produce the necessary vessels. In contrast, stoneware was a more involved process. Stoneware took over the market in the early 1900s, but in Lancaster County, redware potters continued until the middle of the century. “They were closed communities,” Bob said, explaining that the value of self-sufficiency carried through to pottery. Several pieces in the collection were dug up from waste sites in Lancaster. Bob’s favorites are the lopsided and misfired items. “I love wonky stuff. I like the ones that show the flaws in the process,” he said. Everything in the collection is a good example of technique and form, but the items are not behind glass, so visitors can get a closer look. Because most of the pieces are not perfect, Bob feels comfortable using them as teaching tools. He enjoys pulling items off the shelves to point out interesting aspects of their design, construction, and firing. Although he earned a psychology

degree from Millersville University, Bob later received a master’s degree in education and began teaching ceramics. He currently works at Manheim Central High School. “Clay has been good to me. It’s opened a lot of opportunities,” Bob said. He noted that his birdshaped whistles put him on the map as a potter. Bob considers himself a “revivalist potter,” making original designs influenced by early Pennsylvania Dutch finds. Bob and his wife, Sally, work together in his shop at home. Bob will throw a piece and Sally will decorate it with sgraffito, which is an etching technique. When Bob demonstrates at CAHS, Sally typically joins him to show off tape loom weaving. The public may learn about pottery and meet Bob and Sally at the annual CAHS Harvest Festival that will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 29, from noon to 4 p.m. Local craftspeople will also demonstrate woodworking, tinsmithing, blacksmithing, weaving, spinning, dyeing, broom making, rug making, cobblery, and more. Other activities related to life in the 18th and 19th centuries will also be offered. The musical group Dill Weed will perform both days. Food will be sold by Nanalyn’s Full-Filling Feasts. Tickets to enter a drawing for a

muzzleloading rifle will also be available at the festival. There is no charge to attend the festival, but donations will be welcome. For more information or to volunteer with the CAHS, readers may call the museum at 717872-1699. Pictured on front: Conestoga Area Historical Society potter-in-residence Bob Hughes will be one of many craftspersons who will demonstrate a skill that was important to local life in the 18th and 19th centuries during the Harvest Festival on Sept. 28 and 29.

Triangle Refrigeration Co. in Leola has acquired the commercial HVAC and plumbing assets of EH Gochnauer & Sons as of Aug. 29, 2019. Triangle also reported that EH Gochnauer’s team of more than 20 commercial technicians and staff have joined the Triangle team. The acquisition doubles the size of Triangle’s commercial/industrial HVAC and plumbing team, adding capabilities in addition to capacity. With the acquisition, Triangle is a 140-employee commercial refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing contractor celebrating its 50th year of providing installation, repair, and maintenance services to grocery stores, convenience stores, and industrial, commercial, and retail clients in the mid-Atlantic region. EH Gochnauer & Sons, in business since 1933, will continue to provide residential heating and air-conditioning services, installations, and full-service plumbing. Gochnauer and its 15 employees will continue to operate from its current location on Rohrerstown Road in Lancaster.

suggested that it be brought to Lancaster. “It was more than time to have it here,” Michnya said. “It sends a great message: You are not alone in your diagnosis.” The Walk to End Epilepsy will be held at the Lancaster Barnstormers’ stadium, 650 N. Prince St., Lancaster, on Saturday, Oct. 12. Registration will open at 9 a.m., the walk will begin at 10 a.m., and the event will conclude by noon. Both DeBalko and Wingert are slated to speak during the opening ceremony. The walk will mimic Philadelphia’s event by taking place inside the stadium. “It really brings the community together,” Wingert said of keeping the event contained. The event is family focused, so there will be activities for children throughout the morning. These include entertainment by a magician, face painting, balloon sculpting, and play on an inflatable slide. Refreshments will be provided

driving and from certain occupations, and the financial costs of medication, ambulance rides, and hospital stays can create a lot of stress. For people like Wingert who have idiopathic seizures, stress can trigger more seizures. Thus, having a community of understanding people is hugely important. Michnya is EFEPA’s Lancaster County resource coordinator. She coordinates a support group and other programs to ensure people with epilepsy have the encouragement, guidance, and information they need. “My job allows me to give back,” she said. “I feel really fortunate.” Michnya is also helping to coordinate Lancaster County’s inaugural Walk to End Epilepsy along with Wingert and DeBalko, who are both volunteers. Wingert had attended a version of the event in Philadelphia and was so impressed by the camaraderie and sense of community among the participants that he

Wingert’s seizures are well-controlled by medication. DeBalko opted to have surgery two years ago to remove her amygdala, the area of the brain where her seizures were centralized. She considers herself cured. “Epilepsy is a spectrum disorder,” Michnya explained. “It looks different and treatments are different in each person.” Navigating life with epilepsy is challenging, the trio agreed. “There didn’t seem to be a lot of resources available,” Wingert said. “I saw my neurologist every six months, but they couldn’t help with the emotional aspect.” Thankfully, he said, he discovered the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania (EFEPA) through social media a few years ago. Epilepsy has two sets of specific challenges, Wingert suggested: the seizures themselves and the side effects of the treatments available. The uncertainty of the disorder, the restriction from

Creative Works of Lancaster will present a special night of theater, “The 24 Hour Plays: Lancaster,” on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at The Stone Independent School, 480 New Holland Ave., Lancaster. This is the ninth year for “The 24 Hour Plays: Lancaster,” a project that has inspired 62 new works and has brought hundreds of local and regional theater artists together. Six writers, six directors, 25 actors, and one production team will write, rehearse, and perform six short plays in a 24hour period. The process will begin on the evening of Friday, Oct. 4, with writers choosing actors from a pool of talent. The six writers will work through the night and hand their work to directors early Saturday morning, the day of the performance. After negotiating for their choice of play, directors, along with their play’s actors and a crew of stage technicians, will prepare for the 7 p.m. performance. Since its inception in New York City in 1995, The 24 Hour Plays have been performed for audiences throughout the United States and the world, attracting both professional and amateur theater artists. The upcoming Lancaster production will feature veteran members of the central Pennsylvania theater scene working alongside artists who may be new to the audience. “The 24 Hour Plays: Lancaster” will debut Creative Works’ new ticket pricing structure: pay-what-you-decide (PWYD). While-pay-what-you-can pricing asks patrons to pay for a show before they see a performance and is traditionally used as a limited-time promotional offer, PWYD allows patrons to reserve their tickets ahead of time and pay after the performance. Creative Works intends to continue using this pricing model for all of its future events. PWYD allows all patrons to assess the value of a performance for them individually and removes the risk of spending money up front on a new performance they might not traditionally attend with a traditional ticket pricing structure. With the introduction of PWYD, Creative Works will never turn away a potential audience member due to financial limitations. All tickets are free to reserve, and there is no obligation or suggested minimum to pay. Tickets can be reserved at www.creativelancaster. o r g . Reservations are highly encouraged, as availability may be limited at the box office on the night of the performance.

YWCA Lancaster has announced the six honorees for the Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon, and Dr. Tererai Trent will be the keynote speaker. On Aug. 26, Trent was honored as one of the 10 most inspirational women in the world with a life-size statue at the Statues for Equality event in New York City. Trent grew up in a cattle-herding family in rural Zimbabwe. She did not have the opportunity to go to school, so she taught herself to read and write from her brother’s schoolbooks. Despite being married young and having three children by the time she was 18, she never lost sight of her dreams of going to America for higher education. She eventually earned multiple degrees, and she has a global platform with world leaders and international businesses and audiences where she advocates for universal access to quality education. Trent has published two books, won the 2018 NAACP Award for Outstanding Literary Work, and improved education for more than 6,000 children. The official biographies of Trent and the six honorees are available at www.ywcalancaster .org/womenofachievement. The six honorees include

The Bears, however, rose E-town (16-14) followed with Solanco to the occasion and forced a 4-way tie for fourth place in Section Two with a convincing 4-1 final. Tied at 1-1 in the first half, the Bears gained momentum after the break, netting three unanswered goals and the win. Brooke Smith, assisted by Maggie Hirst and Mariah Stoltzfus, provided Solanco’s lone goal. Kimmy Beacham recorded 12 saves with Wilson picking up another defensive save. The hockey team traveled to Red Lion on Sat. Sept 14 to compete in the Lady Lion Tournament. They opened with a 5-0 loss to Red Lion and followed with a 4-0 loss to Mifflinburg. “Red Lion is probably the best team we’ve seen,” said head coach Whitney Hawkins. “And turf speed makes a difference for us in multiple aspects.” The Mares all but matched Mifflinburg in corners (8-7) but lacked the execution in the circle to keep the game close. FOOTBALL Nick Yannutz, Ronnie Fulton and Rashawn Carter all rushed over 100 yards and helped the Mules put up 514 total yard in a crushing 42-0 shutout over visiting Garden Spot Friday, Sept 13. Logan Wagner carded a 77, the second lowest score of the day, and lowered his season average to 78.2 to win the Section Two scoring title by 1.8 strokes. Also counting for the Mules were Andy Teaman (93), Tyler Sellers (108) and Olivia Lasko (109). Greta Plechner and Lucas Boyd both

carded 112 to wrap up the scoring. “It’s quite an accomplishment for Logan,” said Minnich. “Not only to win the scoring title but to do so with an average below 80 as a freshman. He was consistent all year. “Tyler’s score counted for the second time this year and Olivia’s score counted for the fourth time. I thought the kids played well,” he added. “Last year we shot 21 strokes higher at Foxchase than we did this year so our team average continues to be better overall.” FIELD HOCKEY After playing two non-league

games on turf, the field hockey team traveled to Lampeter-Strasburg’s turf field Monday night, Sept. 16, for a Section Two clash. But the Pioneers were too much and dealt the Mares an 11-1 defeat. L-S jumped in front just 1:50 into the first half but the Mares answered the challenge, tying the game about three minutes later on a goal by Kayla McCauley, assisted by Maggie Hirst. Unfortunately, L-S went on a 10-0 scoring run to determine the outcome. “Solanco is much improved,” said Pioneer boss Katrina Swarr. “They took Julz Garber out of the middle.

And the defensive line clogged the middle. “This is one of the youngest teams we’ve had, but they’re like sponges. They listen to everything we say and are doing what we ask. We do have a small group of seniors and they’re great leaders.” Yannutz finished with 215 yards on 19 carries and opened the scoring with a 12 yard run in the first quarter. Carter, also a senior, pushed the lead to 14-0 with a 70-yard sprint to the end zone. He finished with 102 yards on six carries. The Mules extended the lead to 21-zip when Fulton, who ran nine times for 133 yards, raced 78-yards to pay dirt early in the second frame while Yannutz found the end zone a second time on a 48-yard scramble, leaving the hosts with a 28-0 first half advantage. “It was a good chance to get a lot of kids Friday night action. It was a good win for the program,” said Cox, Solanco continued its offensive prowess in the second half with a 6-yard, third quarter tally by quarterback Grady Under (36 yards on 11 carries) and a fourth quarter TD by Zach Turpen. Sophomore Trent McDowell was successful on all six PAT kicks. “Grady has done a nice job putting us in the right place based on what the opposition is doing,” Cox stated. Harnish set the defensive tone as well, collecting a team-high nine solo tackles. Danny Bird and Chad Carter each chipped in with three. Despite the lopsided final, it was a slim 1-0 deficit at the half. LMH out shot Solanco 15-0 and led 10-1 in corners. Ben Brandenberger recorded ten saves in goal. The Mules were coming off a 7-1 loss to Section Three leader Cocalico. Solanco fell behind 3-0 before Sean Salisbury put the visitors on the board in the 16th minute. But, with an 18-2 advantage in shots on goal, the Eagles extended the lead to 5-1 at the half. Logan Peace hauled in 11 saves on the day. GIRLS’ SOCCER In a key Section Three clash last Monday in Quarryville, the Mares not only fought from behind but recorded a win on Meg Bailey’s goal in the 88th minute, outlasting Lancaster Mennonite 2-1. “This was our third overtime game of the season,” noted head coach Ken Photo by Bob Devonshire Yoder. “We had chances in front of the Kayla McCauley celebrates after scoring the Mares’ lone goal in their 11-1, Section Two loss at Lam- net but were not quite able to finish. Solanco, with a 12-4 advantage in shots, tied the game three minutes into the second half. Alana Yoder made the initial shot on goal but the ball was deflected to Bailey, who pounced on the opportunity. “I thought we did a much better job of playing with urgency and putting pressure on the ball,” said Yoder. “We are trying to learn how to play a more physical brand of soccer. We have a lot of younger players getting large portions of time on the field so there has been a learning curve and adjustment to how physical the game can be.” Bailey notched the game-winner on a cross from Gracie Unger. “Gracie was injured through the first part of the season,” noted Yoder. “It will be good to work her back into the lineup and hopefully she can get back to finding the back of the net for us like she did last year.” The going got much tougher on Thursday afternoon as the Mares hosted five time defending Section Three champs and defending League champs Elco. Despite a rearranged lineup, hoping to neutralize their Photo by Bob Devonshire attack, the Mares fell short as the Solanco’s Rashawn Carter eludes Garden Spot’s Joel Martin on a run in the Mules’ 42-0, Section Raiders left with a 5-0 shutout. Two win over the visiting Spartans on September 13. The top team in Section Three scored three goals in the first half en route to their fourth section win. On Friday, Sept. 13, the Mares were looking to notch their second league win of the season at home. Cocalico was looking to move up in the standings and did so with a 2-0 result, scoring once in each half.

VOLLEYBALL With three matches last week, the volleyball team went 1-2, finally winning their first match of the season. Despite only ten minutes of warmup time in Hershey on Monday, the Mares got stronger as the match went on. They lost 25-8, 25-10 before picking up a thrilling 25-19 third set win. Hershey, however, dug deep for the final 25-19 win and the match. One night later the girls’ hosted Garden Spot, the second place team in Section Two, and came away with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-12) loss. “We tried a new lineup and stepped up our passing game and tightened up on serve received,” said head coach Meghan Cross. “The points of the sets do not show the changes and improvements we have been working on.” The Mares were strong at the net with Nathaly Moliinarez, Jada Dow and Emma Canale each putting down three kills and benefitting from Madi Davis’s eight assists. Canale also put up a pair of blocks and Molinarez added one ace. Alondra Quinonez chipped in with nine digs and Anya Fisher added two blocks. “Our Libero, Maggie Perry, did a nice job passing on serve receive,” Cross added. At home on Thursday, the Mares were solid on both offense and defense and worked a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-19) win over McCaskey. “It was a good night,” said Cross. “We used our newest lineup and were able to bring our offense and defense together. “Nathaly led the team with nine kills and five digs. She played a great offensive game and was a leader on the court on defense,” the coach continued. Maggie Perry and Nicole Bowman sparked the offense with a combined four aces while Davis and Kate Unger dished out 12 and six assists respectively. On the defensive side, it was Canale with two blocks and Maggie Perry, Davis and Unger combining for 20 digs. TENNIS On the road last week, the Mares faced CV, the second place team in Section One on Monday and then battled the top team in Section Two, Lampeter-Strasburg, two days later.

September 25, 2019 - 13

Unfortunately the results were identical 7-0 finals that didn’t favor the Mares. CV set the tone early, scoring two shutouts in doubles play and went on to secure straight set wins in singles, including a pair of 6-0, 6-0 results. Solanco secured more games against the Pioneers but the final result was the same. Michaela Brenneman and Sophia Stoltzfus put up the best score in doubles, falling 8-3. Sidney Beyer battled Nora Holmes at No. 3 but suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss while Brenneman worked her way back from a 6-0 first set to fall short 6-4 in the second. CROSS COUNTRY Despite a 7th place effort from Anthony Solis-Morales and a 9th place finish by Avery Jacobsen, the boys cross country team dropped a 17-46 result against McCaskey and lost 21-35 to Lebanon in tri-meet action at Lancaster County Park last Tuesday. “I thought we had a shot at a win against Lebanon but they just out ran us,” said head coach Craig Ausel. “Anthony, with an 18:16 did a great job. He caught Lebanon’s No. 3 at the line and just missed their No. 2.” Nathan Eller finished in 14th place, running 1:50 faster than he did last year on McCaskey’s course. Tate Fisher, in 18th place (19:50) also improved his time and continues to be a solid leader. Mason Sinclair cracked a top five finish for the first time in his career, placing 20th in 20:31. “Despite the scores, most of the squad ran faster this year than last year on this course,” Ausel noted. “We are encouraged by the progress.” The girls’ squad also suffered a loss to McCaskey but picked up a 1555 win over Lebanon. Daria Neaves led the way with a fourth place finish in 22:21. Emma Baxter (23:33) and Nicole Dodson (23:40) placed seventh and eighth respectively while Halle Brown (12th, 25:27) and Elaina Kreider (13th, 26:05) rounded out the top five counters. “Daria, Emma and Nicole did the work this summer and it has shown in their consistent performances,” Ausel said.

Members of Lancaster’s Donegal Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), as well as two members who are also senior representatives of the George Ross Society, National Society Children of the American Revolution (NSCAR), attended a Pennsylvania State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (PSSDAR) South Central District meeting on Aug. 24. The event was hosted by the Witness Tree DAR Chapter at the Donegal Springs Presbyterian Church Solarium. The PSSDAR South Central District spans 13 counties in addition to Lancaster County, and representatives of DAR Chapters and CAR Societies from the various counties attended the meeting to network as volunteers and leaders. They also sought to raise awareness and funds for the newest PSSDAR state service project: the restoration of the Robert Morris stained-glass window at the George Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge. The chapel was built as a living memorial to President George Washington; its art and architecture describe American history. Pennsylvania state regent Elizabeth Watkins, the keynote speaker, shared how water has eroded the chapel’s stone carvings, stained the walls, and damaged the windows. When artists congregate, they often like to discuss their creations with each other. This was the case when painter Stephen Gambone and mixed-media artist Carrie Monique Daigle first saw Paris Llanso’s brightly colored painting called “Citrus Splash.” “I love how the buildup of paint is thick and structural,” commented Daigle. “That’s (called) impasto,” added Gambone. The work of Gambone, Daigle, and Llanso will be among the creations of the nearly 50 professional artists who will take part in the Landis Woods Outdoor Fine Art Show that will be held rain or shine on the Boettcher House Museum grounds, 2369 Lititz Pike, Neffsville, on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. An art walk, which will feature the work of local high school artists, will be open from noon until 3 p.m. on the day of the show. Items that artists and craftspeople will bring to sell at the show will include jewelry, mixed media pieces, abstract art, landscapes, watercolor paintings, ceramics, pottery, and more. The show is billed as a child-friendly and pet-friendly event. Gambone, a self-taught painter who has had a passion for art from an early age, has been painting abstract cityscapes in vivid hues. This year, he also cre-

ated a surreal scene of brightly colored trees with purple trunks behind a red foreground using the paint in a textural manner. Daigle creates her mixedmedia artwork using items as varied as buttons, crumbled pieces of material left in a kiln after it fires, wallpaper, and lace. She sometimes uses a board background or creates on canvas with resin poured over the top. “I get all over the place with my imagery,” said Daigle, displaying a piece that uses wallpaper, a pearl necklace, a heart, flowers, and lace. She said she likes to gather a number of items and pull them together to make something beautiful. Artist Lisa Madenspacher found the inspiration for a recent painting of yellow flowers in a drawer - literally. “I was cleaning out, and I found this photo,” explained Madenspacher. “My Russian neighbor made these artsy and exotic flower arrangements, and I would take photos (of them).” When she found the photo, the memory of the arrangements returned, and she decided to turn the snapshot into a painting. Jennifer Cavalcante, another artist participating in the show, will showcase a photograph of eye-liner lilies that is so vividly hued, the piece resembles a painting. During the art show, organizers will hold hourly drawings for

The testing is for private water supplies that are actively being used for drinking water in the household or rental unit. Camps or seasonal households that are not continuously used are not eligible for this program. This testing is limited to the first 45 households using a private well, spring or cistern that register by visiting https:// extension.psu.edu/safe -drinking-water-workshop or by calling Penn State Extension toll-free at 877-345-0691. Once families register, they may pick up drinking water test kits at the Penn State Extension office in Room 140 of the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.
