Recruitment efforts are currently underway for veterans interested in playing a critical role as volunteer mentors in Pennsylvania’s Veterans Treatment Court program. Volunteer veteran mentors serve as role models and coaches for justice-involved veterans participating in Veterans Courts. Veterans Treatment Courts assist veteran defendants who are struggling with addiction, mental illness, or co-occurring disorders and who come into contact with the criminal justice system. Using the drug court model, these courts combine treatment and personal accountability, with the goal of breaking the cycle of addiction and criminal behavior. More information about Pennsylvania’s Veterans Treatment Courts and becoming a mentor is available at www.pacourts.us/ judicial-administration/court -programs/veterans-courts.

Colleen Hunt (left), mammographer; Tyler Barnett, office manager (center); and Stephanie Grimes, lead mammographer, gathered inside the Mobile Mammography Coach.
A mobile mammography event took place at WellSpan Family Health Georgetown, 1135 Georgetown Road, Christiana, on Oct. 30. The event provided an advanced 3D mammography to 12 women. A screening typically takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The Mobile Mammography Coach enables WellSpan Health to bring mammography screenings to rural and underserved communities throughout southcentral Pennsylvania. This effort is intended to ensure health
equity by providing patients with this early detection screening by increasing their access to care. WellSpan noted that the comforting and calming environment of the coach is similar to the care provided at a brick-and-mortal imaging location. WellSpan also reported that early diagnosis of breast cancer often leads to better outcomes and more available treatment options.
