Fourth of July Parade

Modesto's 4th of July parade is a great way to celebrate Independence Day with the family. Last year's parade was very entertaining! Our friend's got there a pretty early to hold a spot in the shade right on the parade route. We got there just before the parade, and parking wasn't too bad, just a short walk to our spot. The weather last year was manageable, not too hot. There were plenty of vendors selling water and soda. The parade opened with the Modesto PD motorcycle officers. There were lights, sirens, formations and more! It was pretty exciting. The kids really enjoyed the clowns riding mini cars and scooters. And who doesn't like the 'walkers' throwing candy? There are a lot of local businesses, sports teams, and bands who participate in the parade. The kids enjoyed looking for people they knew on the floats. This will definitely been a 4th of July tradition for us!

Hetch Hetchy and Tuolumne River Clean Up

The goal of Operation 9-2-99 is to reclaim, rehabilitate, and restore the area along the Tuolumne River in Modesto from the 9th Street Bridge to Highway 99 by removing trash, tires, shopping carts, and abandoned camps in order to return this blighted area to a public space and riparian river habitat that the community can be proud of and can safely recreate in. Come join us! by: Tuloumne River Clean Up

Modesto Gospel Mission

Since 1948, Modesto Gospel Mission has provided nutritious meals, warm beds, and a place of safety for thousands of poor and homeless men, women, boys and girls. The Mission’s staff is committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and meeting the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of every man, woman, boy and girl who comes to the Mission for help and hope. Modesto Gospel Mission receives NO government funding and is not a United Way agency. The Mission depends completely on the gifts of God’s people – individuals, churches, groups, foundations and businesses, who care about the poor and homeless.

Key Club International is the oldest, largest, and most successful non-profit student-led organization for high school students. We teach and spread our core values through community service: caring, character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership which were adopted by our Key Club International Board in 2002. Members of Key Club, a part of the community-service based Kiwanis International Family, develop themselves into young leaders as they positively impact their schools and communities.! ! Our organization was the inspired vision of California State Commissioner of Schools Albert C. Olney, and vocational education teacher Frank C. Vincent, who together worked to establish the first Key Club at Sacramento High School in California on May 7, 1925. Female students were first admitted into Key Club in 1976, eleven years before women were admitted to Kiwanis International, our sponsoring organization.! ! Today, Key Club exists on almost 5,000 high school campuses, 31 different countries, primarily in the United States and Canada. It has also grown internationally to the Caribbean nations, Central and South America, and most recently to Asia and Australia. With over 12 million hours of community service a year, Key Club International is an organization comprised of multi-state districts, divisions, and individual Key Clubs on high school campuses around the world. Our organization is funded by nominal dues paid by every member, as well as generous contributions by Kiwanis International to fund service-leadership training programs. Key Club’s district & international officers are high school leaders elected by the members at district and international conventions. Our community-service organization offers a wide range of opportunities to its members, such as by supporting our International Service Partners March of Dimes (funds research to reduce premature births), UNICEF (works to overcome poverty, violence, discrimination, and disease that afflict children around the world), and Children’s Miracle Network (raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals).! ! Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. ! It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others.!
