Capping off a fantastic year was the International Property Awards win for Best International Mixed-Use Development by Cascades@Kota Damansara. This phenomenal result was achieved through the cohesive efforts of the Mitraland team, RSP Architects and of course support from our business associates and purchasers. The fact that Cascades@Kota Damansara represented the Asia Pacific region against projects from the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the UK and won, is indeed a great honour for us at Mitraland. Another feather in our cap is the Official Grand Opening of C180. A big event was held on 21st December with the local community. The entire atmosphere was magical as C180 transformed into a bustling hub of activity, excitement and wholesome family entertainment. We continue to be 100% committed to building sustainable homes and spaces for our discerning buyers. Harmony Sculpture @ C180
The 15’ iconic sculpture in red depicts semi abstract figures of a male and female dancing in harmony. The sculpture was fabricated using steel plates to suggest movement and flow; it also creates a sense of dynamism and serves as a reference point for C180 as a whole.

Mitraland Is Flying High As Cascades Wins International Title Fresh from its recent win at the Asia Pacific Property Awards held in May 2012 for Best International Mixed-Use Development in the Asia Pacific region, Cascades was automatically entered into the International Property Awards for Best International Mixed-Use Development representing the Asia Pacific Region.
Cascades competed against projects from Europe, the UK, Africa and The Middle East at the Awards Night held at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on 7th December 2012. The shortlisted projects representing the different regions were evaluated by a discerning panel of international judges based on criteria that included aesthetics, energy efficiency and interior design. We are proud to announce that Cascades@Kota Damansara has won the International Property Award for Best International Mixed-Use Development 2012. All the hard work and meticulous
planning has turned out wonderfully with Cascades being recognised internationally as an outstanding development. The Idea
Kuala Lumpur is a cosmopolitan city that is vibrant and full of life and energy. This vibrancy however, exacts a high demand on its people who long for a place of quiet refuge. This can be found to the east of Kuala Lumpur where it is bordered by the Klang Gate hills, a ridge of quartz that runs for 16kms. The ridge is part of the central forest reserve that runs the length of the country along the Titiwangsa range. 16 Quartz enjoys this quartz ridge as a backdrop and offers its residents an “Oasis� between the city and the forest. It is this relationship and balance between the city and forest, between vibrancy and quiet that inspires the design concept of 16 Quartz.

The Development
Situated near the well-established sub-urban residential areas of Melawati and Kemensah Heights, this 8.7 acre development introduces a new concept of urban living that showcases the vibrancy of cosmopolitan Kuala Lumpur. The exclusivity of spacious landed property is re-organised with the concept of a gated landed strata development and re-interpreted into an exciting new form. The morphology of the development is that of a condominium development whilst the articulation of the building is that of landed property. Bordering the majestic quartz hills of Klang Gate, the development embraces nature to its core by assimilating gardens into the general layout and then inviting the same gardens into each residential unit. 16 Quartz is conceived as an abode of serenity where the strain of city living is calmed by extensive linear gardens.
The Layout
In respect to the natural slope, the villas are composed in a staggered configuration allowing excellent views to be enjoyed by the maximum number of units. The resultant expression is a cascading organic form that blends with nature. There are two cascades running perpendicular to each other forming a T with the club-house at the meeting point. The villas line each side of the linear gardens overlooking the green. This affinity allows the residents to utilise the linear garden as an extension of their homes for relaxation, recreation or socialisation.
The Gardens
The villas and the linear gardens are but one composition, each supporting the other in a symbiosis of spaces. The gardens are akin to an extension of the villas, providing “outdoor living rooms” for enjoyment. Like most valleys, the main garden has a river flowing playfully in a 146m meander towards the club house.
The Clubhouse
The quartz ridge of Klang Gate dominates the skyline, its silhouette honed by time and weather. In nature, the roughness of stone is tempered by the softness of water. Taking this cue from nature, the clubhouse takes an organic form like a cave that has been carved then softened and rounded with running water. The water collects into an infinity pool that is articulated as a waterfall flowing over the edge into the chasm below. The 40 foot waterfall best showcases the exhilaration of height and the beauty of nature that greets the residents as they return home.
The Villas
Where the gardens are like “outdoor living rooms”, the indoors are like internal gardens. Modern spaces are morphed from modern expression of recesses, cuts and notches into the building volume. Large expanse of glass walls fills in the voids providing the transparency that open the home allowing light and air to enter its recesses. Gardens are brought in via these voids continuing the emotion of the external gardens into the homes via the courtyards.

To celebrate the completion of C180@Cheras South, one of Mitraland’s key developments, a spectacular Grand Opening was held on 21st December. Held at the C180 Piazza, the place was transformed into a magical carnival with fun games and performances for the whole family.

Audiences were wowed by the celebrity line-up for the night; with special performances by Sheila Majid, Malaysia’s Jazz Queen, Danny Wan, Geraldine and JY a pop duo who competed in Astro Star Quest and Taiwan’s Million Star. And the emcee for the night was the ever popular Angel Wong who is also the ‘face’ of C180. The successful handover of C180 Phases 2 & 3 marked a momentous occasion for Mitraland. The combined phases contain a mix of shop offices, service apartments, signature offices, the prominent Ibis Styles Hotel and CentreStage, a collection of clubs, restaurants and an exclusive gym. for Old Folks at Amitabha Centre Everyone craves for therapeutic body massages and foot rubs. Besides it being a great method of relaxation, there are several health benefits linked to it too. Massage therapy can help improve blood circulation, increase joint flexibility; enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow and stretch weak or tight muscles.
Armed with this knowledge, the team at Mitraland were adamant on providing occupants at Amitabha Centre Old Folks Home products that can provide comfort and promote general well-being. So, as the Chinese New Year celebrations come about, a total of 8 hand-chosen Ogawa products worth almost RM10,000 were donated to the home. The products were chosen from Ogawa’s therapeutic and relaxation range namely - CHI Master, Optima Therapy and Mobile Seat XE. All products are attributed to encourage circulation and ease muscle aches, a suitable remedy for the patrons at the home. However the tradition of distributing red packets was not overlooked and the process was a humbling one. Those at the receiving end were extremely gracious and showered the staff with well-wishes and thanks. Mr Low, Co-ordinator of Amitabha Old Folks Centre said, “We are grateful for the effort put in and the thoughtful donations from the folks at Mitraland. This is their second visit to the home and it shows just their commitment to the betterment of social welfare.”

A Charitable Evening
On October 25th, Mitraland organized a “by invitation only”
dinner party. Luxurious Aesop products were packed in
handy little pouches and arranged in neat rows to be passed out as complimentary gifts to guests. The venue was Le Midi, a fusion fine dining restaurant located in Bangsar Shopping Centre.
It was Mitraland’s annual customer appreciation night; however, there was a slight variation to the proceedings as invitations had been extended to include several charities and print media foundations. So besides Mitraland’s valued purchasers and business associates, others on the guest list were The Star Foundation, New Straits Times English Development Program, Berita Harian Suara Komuniti, Sin Chew Foundation, Nanyang Press Foundation, China Press, Lions Education Foundation and Pertubuhan Al Khaadem. Mitraland donated a total of RM115,000.00 to the foundations and according to Dato’ Johan Ariffin, Chairman of Mitraland, “Our charity contributions to the media related foundations are made as the media has a better ability to reach out to the needy and less fortunate; therefore the funds donated here can be channelled directly to them.”

The dinner was a lively affair as guests were entertained by the talented singer Vanessa Tan whose soulful and husky vocals proved to be an intoxicating mix. Her prowess and versatility was a joy to watch as she covered an array of local favourites like “Antara Anyer Dan Jakarta” to more mainstream ones like Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are”. Another highlight of the night was a lucky draw contest that saw winners walk away with prizes like the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and fully paid flight and accommodation for two to Universal Studios, Singapore.

Mitraland Joins The Edge-Bursa Malaysia
25th September 2012 The Rat Race is an annual charity drive that sees runners racing through the streets of Kuala Lumpur in a 4.5 kilometre dash. With this 13th installation of the charity run, Mitraland decided to participate to be a part of this great cause.
There were 4 main categories: CEO, Open, Mixed and Senior. And to make it even more fun, team members had to don their office attire to partake in the race. There were 148 teams of 5 from 80 local, foreign, private and public listed companies this time around and a whopping RM2.22 million was raised for 26 beneficiaries. Mitraland contributed RM18,000 by sending a team of 5 who ran under the Mixed team category. They were; Eddie Wong, Irene Lai, Carmen Mah, Tan Chee Hoaw and Clarence Phea. The Mitraland team began their preparations one month before by focusing on their stamina and endurance. They were committed to giving their all but more importantly, they were proud to be a part of this huge philanthropic event. On race day, the streets leading towards Bursa Malaysia were jam packed with supporters of various teams. The best spots were all taken up by 2pm even though the race only flagged off at 5pm. It was truly a carnival like atmosphere. A huge bouncy fun house, archery games, a mechanical bull and tons of freebies added to the ambiance and the excitement.

“Mitraland has always been a strong advocate of CSR and we are thrilled to actively contribute to the community.” Eddie Wong, Team Leader. “Seeing this was our first time taking part, we were more focused on completing the race and having tons of fun while doing so. It was an eye-opener and the atmosphere was very festive with feelings of camaraderie all around.” Clarence Phea, Team Member. “The run was definitely tougher than expected. Mitraland Teambuilding Getaway Teambuilding sessions are without a doubt beneficial to organizations; various programmes provide realistic experiences that seek to empower individuals and to work towards the common goals of the company. Positive outcomes of teambuilding are improvement in productivity and motivation, both vital points that determine the success of an organization. By having a retreat away from the office, it breaks down barriers and eliminates distractions. Other benefits include identifying leadership skills, able to problem solve effectively and capitalizing on each other’s strengths.
Mitraland’s teambuilding retreat came round once again; while last year’s outing was deep in the Gopeng forest of idyllic Adeline’s Villa, this year a change of scenery was required and on 10th November, staff were shuttled to the shores of Avillion Admiral Cove, Port Dickson.
The teambuilding experts at Fish Camp Learning concocted a myriad of fun and insightful team games. Certain games did seem challenging at first like building a raft using only minimal materials but at the end of the day, teamwork and trust are the core traits that emerged through these experiences. It was another hugely successful teambuilding getaway for the Mitraland team as they showed camaraderie and thoughtfulness throughout the trip; this was also carried on back in the work place.
