Fragments, cuts, geometric shapes, curves and lines that meet/collide to deconstruct and give life to shoes that know more about architecture than fashion. Playing with heels and sometimes with soles appears easier and lets the imagination run wild, but the oval, hexagonal or triangular cuts of the uppers certainly cannot go unnoticed. A style that requires experimentation of the materials and a certain personality.

Frammenti, tagli, forme geometriche, curve e linee che incontrano/scontrano per decostruire e dar vita a una scarpa che sa più di architettura piuttosto che di accessorio moda. Giocare con i tacchi e talvolta con le suole appare più facile e fa correre la fantasia, ma anche il taglio ovale, esagonale o triangolare delle tomaie non può certo passare inosservato. Uno stile che richiede sperimentazione anche materica e una certa personalità nell’indosso.

In 2008, he designed and developed his first highly personal collection of bags and shor tly after, shoes.

The new Volare brand was born in 2010 and today is already present in several countries: Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, China, USA, Canada, Russia, Germany

Franco Yeung si laurea al College of Fine Art dell’Università di New South Wales e comincia fin da subito la sua carriera di disegnatore di calzature per diversi marchi importanti ed internazionali.

Nel 2008 disegna e sviluppa la sua prima e personalissima collezione di borse e di lì a poco di calzature.

Il neonato marchio Volare raggiunge il mercato nel 2010 e ad oggi è già presente in diversi paesi: Hong Kong, Giappone, Corea, Cina, USA, Canada, and Denmark. The Volare (an Italian word that means, “to fly”) brand wants to inspire its customers to overcome their limitations, to fly high in search of their dreams with endless creativity and passion.

Global standards and European quality THE SUMMER SESSION CONFIRMED EURO SHOES PREMIERE COLLECTION AS A FAIR IN GOOD SHAPE Year after year Euro Shoes Premiere Collection is confirmed as one of the leading Russian events dedicated to footwear.

From the beginning the fair has enjoyed the supportive participation of world-famous names long popular in footwear such as Capriccio, Tamaris, Rieker, Marco Tozzi, Josef Seibel, Hogl.... The unquestioned quality of their products has been recognized by Russian consumers for over 20 years.

A program of seminars has also contributed to the growth of Euroshoes, with participation of leading footwear experts and analysts, as well as social evenings for exhibitors and visitors and private events arranged by individual shoe firms - runway shows, dedicated presentations and prestigious awards among buyers.

Despite the unstable economic and political situations and a stagnant market, the fair continues to enjoy constant success thanks to the always great interest of participants and buyers. The only down tone was a reduction in exhibition space, due not to fewer exhibitors, whose numbers remain stable, but to smaller size of stands.

Anno dopo anno Euro Shoes Premiere Collection si conferma come uno dei principali eventi russi dedicati alla calzatura.

Fin dal primo anno la fiera è stata supportata dalla partecipazione di marchi di fama mondiale, brand che da tempo spopolano nella calzatura come Capriccio, Tamaris, Rieker, Marco Tozzi, Josef Seibel, Hogl… L’indiscutibile qualità dei prodotti esposti è da sempre riconosciuta dal consumatore russo da più di 20 anni.

Alla crescita di Euroshoes hanno contribuito il programma di seminari, che ha visto la partecipazione dei principali analisti ed esperti di calzatura; le serate mondane dedicate agli espositori e ai visitatori e gli eventi privati organizzati dai singoli calzaturifici – sfilate di moda, presentazioni dedicate, estrazione di premi prestigiosi tra i buyers.

Nonostante l’instabile situazione economica e politica e la stagnazione del mercato, la fiera continua a riscuotere un successo costante grazie al sempre alto interesse da parte di partecipanti e buyers. L’unica nota stonata è venuta dalla riduzione della superficie espositiva non dovuta all’impoverimento di espositori, il cui numero è rimasto stabile, ma ad una riduzione della metratura degli stand.

D’altra parte la fiera è già pronta a stupire durante la prossima edizione di febbraio 2015 (dal 24 al 27) per cui si attendono partecipanti e buyer con nuove offerte esclusive. Sono già pervenute, infatti, le richieste di partecipazione sia da parte dei consueti espositori come da diverse nuove aziende.

Historic fabrics on auction: an encounter between fashion and charity ON 16 TO 19 DECEMBER 2014 (WITH AN EXHIBITION ON 12, 13 AND 14 OF THE SAME MONTH) “IL PONTE CASA D’ASTE” WILL HOLD AN AUCTION IN MILAN OF HISTORICAL FABRICS, WHOSE PROCEEDS WILL BE PARTIALLY DONATED TO THE FOOD BANK ASSOCIATION OF LOMBARDY This type of auction is a “first” for our country and is promoted by Schmid Spa, one of the most important Italian converters in the fashion industry.

Historical fabrics produced by Schmid in the last decade will be auctioned, with a collection of lots and yardages aimed at a wide audience of designers, who are looking to the past for stimuli and ideas for the future, as well as fabric lovers and fashion professionals, and women looking for big brand names at affordable prices.

Schmid has been supplying the most important fashion houses since 1942, producing exclusive fabrics and semi-finished technical products of high craftsmanship. In fact, with each new collection, the company provides names such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Pollini, Prada, Marni, Tod’s, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino and many others with embroidery, processes and combinations in all possible colours on tulle, wool, satin, glitter, silk, cotton, velvet, neoprene, PVC, microfiber, canvas and lurex.

The auction in December will not only be a commercial event. On the proposal of Paolo Ciccarelli, President of Schmid, and through the approach brought to the company by new shareholders, part of the proceeds will be donated to the Lombardy Food Bank Association of the Danilo Fossati Onlus, one of the most dynamic associations operating in Lombardy.

Schmid does not only look at the past, but continues to create fashion by designing and creating proposals for the upcoming seasons and in particular for the 2015/16 winter. This is the case of prints made using plates normally used for leather, on bases capable of enhancing their design. Fabrics, which must all be equipped with a drill support to allow this type of processing and to allow the right-side or reverse impression of the design and subsequent work processes.

No growth Elizabeth Suda has created a collection of “jewellery for peace” made with war scraps collected in Laos. This collection not only provides jobs to locals, but part of the proceeds is used to help clear the land from mines, a terrible threat for those working in the fields (80 million hidden bombs and 50 million people mutilated). The artist, who called her brand Article22 (article22.com) in reference to the UN Declaration of Human Rights, has succeeded in transforming a dark point in history into a bright event.

Will this also be possible for the fashion world which is currently experiencing a continuing slump in consumption capable of also biting its highest crest: luxury?

The revenue data for the first quarter of the year for international fashion groups listed on the stock exchange confirm the slowdown witnessed in 2013 (source: Pambianco Strategie di Impresa). Growth was around 2.9%, significantly lower than the 11% average of the three previous years. In fact, Italian groups did not show any signs of growth.

In essence, emerging markets exhibited structural weaknesses that depressed consumption even further. China buys less, also due to currency issues, Russia suffers the effects of the Ukraine crisis and of a society where a middle class has formed, but not a real bourgeois.

It is possible to transform these bombs, more or less unexploded, into sales?

Those intending to transform and reinvent are, undoubtedly, the creators who, for next summer, have resumed the theory of colours.

That art of mixing tones and creating fantastic impressions from backgrounds, sharp lines, elegance and refinement, fantasy and originality. Shapes are often rigid and sometimes even in forms that take ideas from designs that are decidedly out of the ordinary. One notices this most in the runway shows (both men’s and women’s).

As regards the new season masculine fashion the Rucksack is the undisputed star. One finds it everywhere also in various shapes and materials.

Rethink also about the next winter’s materials of which we offer a brief preview at the end of this issue.

Saprà fare altrettanto il mondo della moda che vive una perdurante crisi dei consumi capace di graffiare, ora, anche la sua cresta più alta: il lusso?

Le cifre che definiscono i ricavi dei primi tre mesi dell’anno per i gruppi della moda internazionali quotati in borsa confermano la frenata evidenziata già nel consuntivo 2013 (dati Pambianco Strategie di Impresa). La crescita si attesta intorno al 2,9%, in netto calo rispetto alla media dell’11% dei 3 anni precedenti.

I gruppi italiani hanno segnato addirittura una crescita zero.

In buona sostanza, i mercati emergenti manifestano debolezze strutturali che vanno a deprimere ulteriormente i consumi già erosi dalla crisi internazionale.

In Cina si compra meno, anche per questioni di valutarie, la Russia subisce gli effetti della crisi Ucraina e di una società in cui si è formato un ceto medio, ma non una vera e propria borghesia.

Si saprà trasformare queste bombe, più o meno inesplose, in fatturati?

Chi prova a trasformare e reinventare sono, senza dubbio, i creativi che per la prossima estate hanno ripreso la teoria dei colori. Quell’arte di accostare tonalità e creare mondi fantasioni segnati da campiture, linee nette, eleganza e raffinatezza, fantasia ed originalità. I volumi sono spesso rigidi e talvolta addirittura sagomati su forme che traggono spunto da idee di design decisamente fuori dal comune. Lo si nota ancora meglio nelle sfilate (sia donna che uomo). Per quanto concerne la nuova stagione maschile è lo Zaino a farla da padrone incontrastato. Tutti lo hanno proposto anche in diverse varianti di forme e materiali.

Si prova a ripensare anche il prossimo inverno di cui presentiamo, sul finale di numero, una breve anticipazione.

Guema Barnaba is a brand of handbags synonymous with exceptional quality and elegance. At the Premiere Classe held last July in Paris, we met the young Italian entrepreneur who founded this brand. Her name is Emanuela Barnaba, she is just twenty five and graduated in Business Administration in Rome, and now lives in London. Thanks to her enthusiasm, creativity and experience gained around the world, two years ago she decided to create her own line of handbags.

This is her second collection, which includes eight models that embody Made In Italy luxur y.

You identify with multiple cultures which are translated and manifested in your creations…

«That’s right. I was born in Rome, but I grew up in Cairo. That’s why the influence of Italian and Egyptian ar t and culture is so evident in my collections, they evoke beauty and elegance.

From a ver y young age I had the oppor tunity and good for tune to travel a lot, so much so that I have visited all five continents, from which I continue to draw inspiration.»

Today you live in London. Is where you design your collections?

«After graduating in Business Administration in Rome, I moved to London to pursue my dream of working in the fashion world. After several years working in the field as a fashion stylist and in marketing, I decided to strike out on my own to create a line of handbags.

The bags are conceived in London, but made entirely in Italy, in Naples.»

So only Italian materials are used?

«Yes, because my bags want to represent Made In Italy excellence. Each piece, in fact, is characterised by a unique and intricate manufacturing process. Handbags are a woman’s favourite accessor y and for Guema Barnaba they represent the real essence of high quality and elegance, an absolute key feature of my brand.»

What type of materials do you choose?

«Prized materials such as crocodile, python, stingray, shark and pony. The creativity that I absorb from the London mood combined with Italian sophistication and classic styling is the formula that allows me to create timeless designs.»

Are all the pieces handmade?

«Each piece is handcrafted by exper t Italian leather ar tisans using traditional production methods, thus guaranteeing extraordinar y attention to the smallest detail.»

Is each bag unique?

«Absolutely. In addition to being unique, each piece is also numbered and therefore, a one-off.

In occasione della Premiere Classe che si è svolta lo scorso luglio a Parigi, abbiamo incontrato la giovane imprenditrice italiana che lo ha fondato. Si chiama Emanuela Barnaba, ha appena venticinque anni, si è laureata in Economia Aziendale a Roma e ora vive a Londra. Grazie a tutto l’entusiasmo, la creatività e l’esperienza maturati in giro per il mondo, due anni fa ha deciso di creare una linea di borse tutta sua. Convivono in te molteplici culture, che si traducono e prendono forma nelle tue creazioni… «È così. Sono nata a Roma, ma ho trascorso i primi anni della mia vita al Cairo. Ecco perché l’influenza dell’arte e della cultura, sia italiana sia egiziana, è così evidente nelle mie collezioni, che ne evocano bellezza ed eleganza. Sin da bambina ho avuto la possibilità e la fortuna di viaggiare moltissimo, tanto che ho già visitato tutti e cinque i continenti, da cui appunto continuo a trarre ispirazione».

Oggi vivi a Londra. È lì che progetti tutte le tue collezioni?

«Dopo essermi laureata a Roma in Economia Aziendale, mi sono trasferita a Londra per inseguire il mio sogno, cioè lavorare nell’ambito della moda. Ho trascorso alcuni anni lavorando nel settore sia come fashion stylist sia nel marketing e, dopo aver accumulato esperienza, ho deciso di creare una linea di borse tutta mia. Ed è proprio a Londra che la progetto, ma i modelli vengono poi interamente realizzati in Italia, nel napoletano».

Vengono utilizzati soltanto materiali italiani?

«Sì, perché le mie borse vogliono rappresentare il prodotto made in Italy per eccellenza. Ogni pezzo, infatti, è caratterizzato da una lavorazione unica e ricercata. Le borse sono uno degli accessori preferiti dalle donne e per Guema Barnaba rappresentano l’essenza dell’alta qualità e dell’eleganza, cifra assoluta del mio brand».

Che tipo di materiali scegli?

«Materiali pregiatissimi, come il coccodrillo, il pitone, la razza, lo squalo e il cavallino. La creatività che assorbo dal clima londinese unita alla raffinatezza e alla classicità italiana sono la formula che mi permette di rendere senza tempo il design di queste borse».

Tutti i pezzi sono fatti a mano?

«Affido ogni pezzo a esperti artigiani della pelle italiani, che lo realizzano utilizzando metodi di produzione artigianali, che garantiscono la massima attenzione al più piccolo dettaglio».

Ogni borsa si può considerare unica?

«Assolutamente sì. Oltre ad essere un pezzo unico, è anche numerato e perciò raro. Un accessorio di alto lusso, dedicato a un pubblico che ama lo stile raffinato».

The casket bags are masterpieces that the Sicilian designer recently presented in Milan, introducing a new material obtained by processing cactus stalks from which a wood-like fiber is extracted. Once cleaned, layered and treated with resin, even sometimes coloured, the substance adds elegance, transparency and strength to products. Along with the cactus other features have been added like various types of pained and laser-cut leathers, together with brass, gold and plexiglas for making the handles. The artisanal production of the bags permits maximum personalization in relatively short deliver y times: 15-30 days.

Dall’ufficio tecnico al laboratorio di applicazione passando per la produzione, tutte le fasi del prodotto nascono all’interno della realtà Ramponi, che ospita anche un reparto per la verniciatura a campione dei componenti e macchine laser per eventuali intagli su pelle e tessuti. È il caso anche delle Borchie in ABS il cui processo di realizzazione è automatizzato. La prima fase, infatti, è realizzata con macchine e stampi multifigura strutturate per una produzione giornaliera che si estende sulle 24 ore. La seconda fase, invece, è stata automatizzata con l’utilizzo di robot che trasferiscono i prodotti in tempi rapidi, garantendo capacità produttiva e flessibilità a fronte di volumi di vendita significativi. In conclusione, terza fase, la selezione finale, punto di forza del processo produttivo di Ramponi, che ha voluto inserire questa fase a garanzia della qualità dei prodotti.

SHE IS ESTONIAN, A RECENT GRADUATE AND IN SEPTEMBER CAN PRESENT HER COLLECTION AT MODAMONT OF PARIS For the fifth year running Modamont, the international show of fashion trimmings and components, sponsored the Accessories categor y of ITS 2014. The competition, aimed at supporting talented youngsters in the fashion world, with a prestigious jur y awarded the first prize and 5,000 euro to Mirja Pitkäärt, a young Estonian designer who lives in London. Now Mirja can create her personal collection of accessories to present both at ITS 2015 and during Modamont of Paris to be held on 16, 17 and 18 September. Mirja has just graduated from the London College of Fashion after studying leather design at the Estonian Academy of Art and Textile Design of the University of Applied Arts of Vienna.

In fact a brilliant creative and promising mind today also working in Berlin for important designers such as Anja Bruhn, Fleet Ilya and Ally Capellino in the ultra luxur y leather goods field. Mirja Pitkäärt makes her accessories by both the most artisanal production methods as well as highly innovative ones. It is in fact thanks to this combination that the young designer intends to pursue her main objective: to give emotional value to accessories focusing of the tactile quality of materials.

Il concorso, che mira a supportare i giovani talenti nel mondo della moda, dinanzi a una prestigiosa giuria ha assegnato il primo premio e 5mila euro a Mirja Pitkäärt, una giovane designer estone, che vive a Londra. Ora Mirja potrà creare la sua personale collezione di accessori da presentare sia all’ITS 2015, sia durante il Modamont di Parigi che si terrà il prossimo 16, 17 e 18 settembre.

Mirja si è appena laureata al London College of Fashion dopo aver studiato design della pelle all’Accademia Estone di Arte e Disegno Tessile dell’Università di Arti Applicate di Vienna.

Insomma è una mente creativa brillante e promettente che oggi lavora anche a Berlino per importanti designer come Anja Bruhn, Fleet Ilya e Ally Capellino nell’ambito della pelletteria extralusso. Mirja Pitkäärt realizza i suoi accessori ricorrendo sia ai più artigianali metodi di produzione manifatturiera sia a quelli più innovativi. Ed è proprio grazie a questo connubio che la giovane designer vuole perseguire il suo principale obiettivo: conferire un valore emozionale agli accessori puntando sulla tattilità dei materiali.

An earlier Mipel sounds out the trade Il Mipel anticipato alla prova del mercato Collections for summer 2015 on show from 31 August In mostra dal 31 agosto a Milano le collezioni in Milan per l’estate 2015

Everyone awaits the reaction of buyers to new dates of Mipel, the leather goods fair scheduled for 31 August to 3 September, almost two weeks ahead of the usual ones. The event will host, in Halls 8 and 12 of Fieramilano Rho, about 300 brands of bags and fashion accessories for summer 2015.

As regards organization, the 106th Mipel offers all the latest services for buyers and exhibitors, while never losing sight of its vocation which is based on its priority that is quality of products.

After the great success of the last editions that of runway shoes, for example, is confirmed. From this edition the area dedicated to them will be found in Hall 8, in the Punto.it section, right at the pulsing heart of the fair.

From Sunday to Tuesday the two daily live shows, at 11.00 in the morning and 15.00 in the afternoon, will hold the attention of buyers and visitors revealing the best of collections for spring-summer 2015.

We must mention an important change in layout of the four exhibition sections of the fair: the Design Studios area, that dedicated more than any other to trend creators of Hall 8 will be moved to the entrance, making it easier for visitors to access. Sintesi is reconfirmed also, located in Hall 12 this is the space which hosts the best of collections presented in the fair, conceived and created by

fashion stylist Antonella Bertagnin, who for the occasion takes up the theme of the Mipel campaign, that of transformation.

Among the attractions of the fair we also list the space dedicated to Cool Huntery??? Italy, the association aimed at entrepreneurial development of young fashion designers of “Made in Italy”, who for the second consecutive time present their creations in Hall 12.

As to market trends, economic data on the first quarter of 2014 issued

by AIMPES shows signs that export of Italian leather goods is holding up after the good performance of 2013 (+11%). Between January and March 2014 export increased in value by 4.8% but saw a slight drop in volume (-0.9%). Regarding trends, there is in fact a slowdown in growth rate that has characterized the sector since 2009. It is important to note that growth in foreign revenue comes exclusively from export of leather products, the value of which increases by 7.4% as against that of synthetics (-3.2%).

As to destinations, there is a conspicuous drop on two of the markets fundamental to Italian leather goods, Japan (-7%) and the Russian Federation (-7.3%). On the other hand there are positive signs from Germany (+10%), United Kingdom (+9.9%) and France (+12.4%).

Da domenica a martedì i due live show quotidiani, al mattino alle ore 11.00 e al pomeriggio alle ore 15.00, catalizzeranno l’attenzione di buyer e visitatori rivelando il meglio delle collezioni primavera-estate 2015.

Da segnalare un’importante variazione nella disposizione dei quattro settori espositivi della fiera: il settore Design Studios, il quartiere di design e lo spazio dedicato più di ogni altro ai creatori di tendenze del padiglione 8 sarà spostato all’ingresso per facilitarne la fruizione da parte dei visitatori. Riconfermata anche l’area Sintesi, collocata all’interno del padiglione 12, lo spazio che riassume

il meglio delle collezioni presentate in fiera, studiata e realizzata dalla progettista di moda Antonella Bertagnin, che per l’occasione ha rivisitato il tema della campagna Mipel, quello del trasformismo.

Tra i punti di attrazione della fiera, ricordiamo anche lo spazio dedicato a Cool Huntery Italy, l’associazione finalizzata allo sviluppo imprenditoriale di giovani fashion designer “Made in Italy”, che presentano per la seconda volta consecutiva le loro creazioni all’interno del padiglione 12.

Quanto al trend del mercato, i dati congiunturali del primo trimestre 2014 diffusi da AIMPES evidenziano segnali di tenuta dall’export di pelletteria italiana dopo la buona performance del 2013 (+11%). Tra gennaio e marzo 2014 le esportazioni sono cresciute in valore del 4,8%, a fronte però di una leggera flessione dei volumi (-0,9%).

In termini di tendenze, di fatto si assiste ad un rallentamento del trend di crescita che ha caratterizzato il settore dal 2009 in poi. Importante notare che la crescita del fatturato estero proviene esclusivamente dall’export di prodotti in pelle, il cui valore cresce del 7,4% a fronte di quelli in sintetico (-3,2%). Per quanto riguarda i Paesi di destinazione, spiccano le contrazioni di due mercati fondamentali per la pelletteria italiana, il Giappone (-7%) e la Federazione Russa (-7,3%). Di segno positivo invece Germania (+10%), Regno Unito (+9,9%) e Francia (+12,4%).

Pelletteria L’Europea Company, holder of Capoverso brand, was founded in 1973 as a small handcraft shop and over the last years it has developed into a successful, acknowledged and appreciated reality all over the world. Exploiting a knowhow which has its roots in traditional craftsmanship, this company was able to take up the challenges of the market, masterfully combining the introduction of highly-advanced processes with the original taste of a “Made in Italy” and “handmade” product, as well as with an optimum quality/price ratio.

Last July Capoverso collection was presented for the first time at the most important trade fair for fashion and accessories in Paris, Who’s Next. Capoverso stand was located in the pavilion dedicated to emerging brands which best represent the

Although the trade show organizers recorded a downtrend in the number of participants with respect to previous editions, owing to the general crisis that is affecting the sector and to the new layout of pavilions, Capoverso stand was an unquestioned protagonist definitely awakening the interest both of French and several Japanese operators, faithful visitors of the Parisian exhibition.

This first seasonal exhibition gave the management of Pelletteria L’Europea Company, holding Capoverso brand, further confirmation of the correctness of its stylish choices.

This is essential to face with the same dedication the next exhibitions such as Mipel in Milan, I.L.M. in Offenbach and Obuv in Moscow.

In this context Domozero aims to promote a culture of rationalizing resources, based on its own practice of using and reusing natural and recuperable materials.

The least imaginable transformations can result from studying materials and how to recuperate them. OVO represents a first in Domozero bags. Each piece is handmade, an artisanal tradition that gives every single an originality and uniqueness “Made in Italy”.

HERSCHEL In the early 1900s Peter Alexander Cormack and his wife started on a long journey from Wick and settled in a small Scottish town called Herschel, the population of which is now 30 residents. Founded in 2009 by brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack, Herschel Supply Co. adopted the name of the little place where three generations of their family have grown up. Now, introduction of the Crosshatch collection represents something new in the history of textiles. Authentic colouring blocks are used for the six popular Herschel Supply items to increase the effect of the distinctive check (tartan??) pattern of the fabrics. Features include cotton-polyester lining and zip-tags of full grain leather.

The new Ars Sutoria handbag course THE FIRST SESSION OF THE REVAMPED HANDBAG COURSES AT THE ARS SUTORIA SCHOOL OF MILAN HAS ENDED IN THE MONTH OF JUNE. MANY IMPROVEMENTS FOR AN INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE OF PROFESSIONALS WHO WANT TO UPGRADE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS The senior teacher of the Ars Sutoria School, Paolo Marenghi, explains the important changes implemented in the revamped handbag courses. We believe one of the most important values offered within this training modules is the completeness and variety of subjects and fields taught while, at the same time, the strong focus on handbags.

What are the main subjects covered in the course for handbags?

«It starts with an in-depth knowledge of the materials, which is the basis of all the work. Then it focuses on pure design and the different design techniques. Then students learn how these ideas can be transformed into models ready for cutting and finally, it examines the method for analysing the market in order to construct a real collection. In essence, students learn what is needed to construct a collection of handbags from scratch and how to market it».

The first cycle of the new courses has ended. Is there anything that needs improving?

«At our school, students “learn by doing”, practice is essential and this aspect will never change. The structure of the course is very comprehensive and extensive, although from September (the next course starts on 29 September 2014), I would like all the teachers to spend more time on the analysis of the materials. We will also add few handbag styles to study and maybe we will introduce a wallet or some other small leathergoods model».

What kind of teachers holds the courses?

«Traditionally, only people with an extensive experience in the field teach at Ars Sutoria.

During the course, instructors change along the weeks depending on their skills: pure design, pattern making (real artisans used to working in an industrial context and capable of producing real prototypes), and marketing. An educational offer perfect for the target audience who attends our school: professionals who already work in the industry. The variety of teachers also allows learning different methods and approaches».

Renewed courses, and also renewed spaces…

«We have decided to make few steps ahead. We not only teach theory, but we believe it is important that students go through the process of actually creating a handbag: from the concept to the design, from the pattern to the assembly. We are in the process of setting up new multifunctional spaces dedicated to the different activities: a showroom for materials and accessories, classroom for traditional lectures and work branches to develop the paper patterns. In 2015 we’ll set up also an area equiped with workstation for digital drawings and, most important, a laboratory provided by the machines for the preparation of the leather, for the lamination of the reinforcements, for the finishing of the materials and components, for stitching and assembly».
