irgin Hyperloop One aims to connect all major cities in the Gulf in less than one hour by working with governments, regulators and the private sector. When hours become minutes everything changes. Virgin Hyperloop One can usher in a truly transformational shift in mass transit by delivering an all-electric, ultra-high-speed transport system – transporting more passengers and freight, at faster-than-airline speeds, for less energy and near zero emissions than any other form of
transport in history. “At this year’s edition of Gitex, we are featuring our Virgin Hyperloop One passenger pod prototype and DP World CargoSpeed. The pod has attracted nearly 2,000 visitors on the first two days and attention from media, all eager to learn more about our project pipeline in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and US,” said Harj Dhaliwal, Managing Director, Middle East and India, Virgin Hyperloop One. Virgin Hyperloop One is participating at Gitex for the first time. Future passengers and stakeholders are excited about
the Virgin Hyperloop One system and its tremendous benefits. Most people spoken to wanted to know when it will be operational. Hyperloop is the fifth mode of transportation. “We have been waiting 100 years for a solution to solve 21st century transportation problems. We are working to make hyperloop a reality in years not decades. At the rate of progress with our current projects, we anticipate the first Virgin Hyperloop One system to be operational by 2027,” elaborates Dhaliwal.

SYNOLOGY KEEN TO INTEGRATE DEEP LEARNING IN VIDEO SOLUTION SURVEILLANCE STATION As a software company doing data management business, artificial intelligence, especially deep learning, are important technologies. “We help Synology NAS users protect valuable data, and with deep learning, we could help our users dig out the hidden value of their data with their own NAS machine,” says Nick Jheng, Regional Manager
Middle East, Synology. For example, Synology has a new product called DVA3219, which is a NAS with deep learning–based algorithms powered by NVIDIA GeForce graphic card. This gives the product the capability to do advanced video analysis when users install and use Synology’s Surveillance Station. The
software is able to identify specific objects and events to reduce false alarm. Users can get various benefits when they install an IP camera: high accuracy people counting, intrusion detection, no-idle zone, deep motion detection. People think of Synology as a NAS vendor, which is right, but not 100% correct. Synology is
actually doing data management business, and this is why other than NAS, it has its own router products, as well as cloud service - Synology C2.. On top of that, Synology is about to launch its first dual controller model, while also considering integration of fibre channel protocol, so that users could also use Synology NAS as SAN
PROW EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF ‘BIG SECURITY’ IN THE AGE OF ‘BIG DATA’ PROW, a Dubai-based provider of system integration and professional IT and ICT services, is warning against complacency in data security as it showcases its suite of pioneering big data analytics and security solutions from leading global partners at GITEX 2019. In an increasingly complex world of global businesses using interconnected multi-platform IT systems merging server and cloud-based data centres,
the importance of collecting and monitoring data becomes ever more vital. However, big data needs big data analytics and big security, and PROW provides all of these with its suite of industry-leading smart ICT solutions from partners Expandium, ExtraHop and Zyalin. Roland Hashem, Managing Director of PROW, said: “In recent years, the Middle East has increasingly been a target for coordinated transnational
cybercrime attacks. Cybercrime is becoming ever more sophisticated, costing the global economy hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Interestingly, two thirds of IT security breaches are due to a combination of employee negligence and malicious hacking, so it is avoidable with the right systems in place.” CIOs across the world are beginning to realise that relying on employee vigilance alone
is not sufficient to ensure the security of company networks. Tracking and analysing network data for anomalies and red flags is the ideal solution for multi-national corporations with highly complex multi-platform hybrid IT systems.” Hashem goes on to say that tracking network data is not only useful for security purposes, but also to improve a business’s efficiency, financial performance, customer experience and service quality.
KPMG SURVEY REVEALS IMPACT OF AUTOMATION ON UAE WORKFORCE One-third of CIOs surveyed in UAE in the Harvey Nash KPMG CIO Survey, believe 20% or more of their workforce will be automated in the next five years. While there have been many reports anticipating the long-term impact of artificial intelligence and automation of the workforce, few include input from technology leaders who are responsible for putting these systems in place. This year’s Harvey Nash KPMG CIO Survey provides insight into various areas of interest. This includes the fact that one-third of CIOs surveyed believe 20% or more of their workforce will be automated in the next five years. “Those organisations not investing in artificial intelligence and automation may, over time, see their cost base become relatively higher than their artificial intelligence-investing competitors,” mentioned Farhan Syed, Partner, Digital and Innovation at KPMG Lower Gulf, during the course of Gitex 2019.

THE WORLD’S MOST ADVANCED SOCIAL ROBOT IS COMING TO GITEX WITH ETISALAT How can social robots help humans? Robots have been a staple of sci-fi and childhood dreams for over a century and today, through Swedish robotics company Furhat Robotics, they are a reality. Partnering with Etisalat, the leading telecommunications provider, Furhat Robotics is bringing their social robots to this years’ technology conference, Gitex. The Furhat robot communicates just like humans do; it speaks, listens, interacts, shows emotion and maintains eye contact, and it’s a game-changer for many sectors including travel (what will the future of human travel look like?), prescreening for deadly diseases, gaming, reducing school teacher’s workloads, physiotherapy, recruitment (imagine being interviewed by a robot!) and staff training. Real-life examples include creating a robot which simulates a depressed patient, allowing psychotherapists to train in a safe and gradual way. In school classrooms, robots developed by Furhat have been teaching students about artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematics and sustainable energy, an initiative that aims to complement teachers, rather than replace them. Although the Furhat robot is currently used by a variety of companies around the world, this is the first time the advanced social robots will be accessible for audiences in the Middle East. Furhat will feature prominently at Etisalat’s pavillion at GITEX, with both a stage performance several times throughout the day. Earlier this year at the World Government Summit, His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, Vice Chairman of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, Vice Chairman of Board Trustees and Managing Director to Dubai Future Foundation stressed that the UAE is one of the most advanced countries in the adoption of robotics technology and is already using it in many sectors that touch people’s lives. Furhat Robotics CEO and co-founder, Samer Al Moubayed said: “The UAE is known around the world for its innovation and forward-thinking approach when it comes to using emerging technology such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and robotics to solve real-life challenges that people face. This makes it a perfect launch pad for our technology, and the early adopter attitude in the region makes Furhat a great fit for the market. Furhat is a very new technology, and a lot of its potential is still to be realized. At Gitex, the largest tech event in the Middle East, we look forward to discovering and developing partnerships with key players in the region.”

AJMAN FREE ZONE LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE APPS AND IT PLATFORMS AT GITEX Ajman Free Zone chose this year’s GITEX exhibition to officially launch a number of IT platforms and APPs in order to further simplify the business set-up process and improve efficiencies. The organisation’s new technologies are transforming the customer experience and are enabling it to compete on a global scale for business investment. The Free Zone’s participation at GITEX is part of a drive to attract new investors from the IT sector whose businesses would benefit from AFZ facilities. A new WhatsApp “Chatbot” service will now allow businesses to begin the set-up of their operation in the Free Zone in a few easy steps. It will also enable the re-registration process to take place in a similarly straightforward manner. In addition, the introduction of a new RPA system which will work 24/7 will transfer data without the need for a human interference.
