Embrace These Qualities To Move Past Tough Times ELINOR STUTZ

hallenges can push us backward, or we can embrace these qualities to move past tough times. Re-strategizing, motivation to continue, and believing you can be successful all lend a helping hand. But, the stress can make all of the above easier said than done. Once we learn how to deal with stressful circumstances, we can more easily move past tough times.

Motivate yourself to continue and self-educate Meditation or a walk in nature often brings new ideas that work far better. At the same time, we are to accept what we can’t fix and employ help. The end of solving what doesn’t work is in resetting our goals and procedures, ensuring all elements work harmoniously. Selling is intuitive for me, but entrepreneurship quickly moved me to tough times. The learning curve was seemingly more treacherous to me than climbing Mount Everest. But the intrigue 4 | ENTREPRENEUR PLATFORM MAGAZINE | MAY/JUNE 2020

caught my interest and never left. I am forever dedicated to learning and doing what is needed.

Universal truths about business include: • We put our prospects and clients first • Excuses never work out well • Integrity is a must; without it business declines • We are to step up to each stressful situation to find a satisfactory solution for all • Our initial plan often requires revision • Continue to reset goals to improve the game The bonus is in connecting with others who are learning and those who are leading the way. We can learn from everyone.

Corporate sales taught me:

1 Salespeople in the same office unwittingly teach what not to do

2 Asking prospective clients how they prefer to buy is beneficial on multiple levels

3 Honesty in all regards proves to be the best policy

4 Delivering value beyond expectations produces a returning clientele

Transferring the sales lessons to entrepreneurship was helpful, but not enough. Similar to athletics, practice and perseverance are the key factors that help us improve our

game. Not every encounter is a win, but it provides experience and insight on how to improve.

Improvisation, in particular, mirrors good business practices as it encourages the audience to interact with the actors. The actors carefully listen to the suggestions and then develop new scenarios for consideration on the spot. Understanding the practice can lend flexibility to how you deal with clientele. Quitting never works, because you can’t regain the momentum. So the next time, the topic arises in your mind, ask yourself how you will feel if you stop. A better solution is to recognize the areas you most enjoy. Come to terms with your fondest wishes, including the recognition that will make your effort worthwhile. Now re-evaluate your current plan and revise for the better.

A favorite cafĂŠ has the following signage on display. You can see that the client experience comes first. One excellent way to embrace the principles shared above is to dedicate ourselves to continual education. The learning is available in many formats today; our job is to pick the one that holds our attention. As we review long term goals, it becomes evident what we need to learn. As unique opportunities arise that produce fear, hiring help becomes well-worthwhile.

Preparing to move past tough times You have most likely thought about changing jobs, careers, and-or approach to your endeavors. Change is never easy, but once in place, satisfaction increases. The most difficult is in taking a leap of faith by trying something completely new. On the days that frustration takes hold, take a time-out to either enjoy the outdoors. A sporting event can be motivating upon seeing athletes doing whatever it takes to make their goals. Movies and standup improvisation may help percolate new ideas.

first discovered the joy of color as a child when I got lost exploring color combinations painting. It has always brought much joy in my life! Bright colors, especially, feel like the language of love and joy to me.

Spring represents new life and is a great time of year to wear brighter and lighter colors. When 911 happened I was working at Saks Fifth Avenue in Cherry Creek shopping district of Denver, Colorado as the Chanel Makeup Artist. I wanted to inspire and encourage my clients so I wore bright colors to work instead of the black uniform. The national Chanel oďŹƒce in New York contacted me because Chanel counters across the nation were trending down in sales and I was experiencing triple digit increases! They came to visit to find out why and were surprised when I told them the only thing I was doing dierent was wearing color and being joyful.

6 | ENTREPRENEUR PLATFORM MAGAZINE | MAY/JUNE 2020

Since then I wear color all the time and in doing so it attracts others to me easily in networking and social settings. Wearing color energizes me and makes me feel vibrant! I often hear it makes me look more approachable and younger.

A

t 19-years-old, Yamisha Young has already paid for mother-daughter trips to exotic locations such as the Maldives, brought herself a fivebedroom home, two cars and has a business that earned her $23k in one weekend. She has done all of this while trying to overcome a mental breakdown of finding out her last year in high school. As a senior, 2020 was supposed to be memorable. She is also a functional autistic. School is her only social life outside of Young’s family time. She loved school and enjoyed being around other teens just like her. But with the COVID-19 virus, she and other members of the class of 2020 have watched their rights of passage vanish. “My child is wonderfully special,” admits her mother Yassin Hall. “Our family is special. We’ve had some things that would make other families fall apart but honestly, it drove us to make changes so that we wouldn’t pay the ultimate price.”

8 | ENTREPRENEUR PLATFORM MAGAZINE | MAY/JUNE 2020

Hall is talking about her own traumatic childhood that included a mother who was a violent bipolar schizophrenic. After decades of advocating for the government to do more for those with mental illness, in January 2020, Hall was ecstatic to see that there would be legislative changes such individuals in the US Virgin Islands where she is from. She is also the author of “Journey Untold” and “Beyond The Love Curse” which have remained on Amazon’s bestseller lists for five consecutive years and are now on some Georgia school curriculums. Now an Atlanta area resident, Hall helpedher daughter create her own career by establishing Amazon stores and fulfilling customer needs with basics with everyday household items such as various snacks, Ramen noodles and toilet paper. On their trip to The Maldives in 2019, the duo reflected on how they used to struggle as a single mother and daughter and thought to create a care kit to add to their inventory. Neither fathomed that just a few months later, they would be sending out those products as there were massive shortages around the world due to COVID-19.

YAMISHA YOUNG

“It’s insane,” said Yamisha. “We have about five UPS or USPS trucks filled with products on a daily basis now. It’s nonstop labeling and packing and shipping for us.” Toilet paper, peanuts and ramen noodles are the top sellers, Hall and Young say and one reason they are continuing to sell so much is that unlike other suppliers, when the shoppers began their buying frenzy, the mother and daughter duo did not inflate their prices. “It is absolutely wrong for people to do that,” Hall shakes her head in disbelief. “People are suffering, dying, out of work and you expect them to pay double or quadruple to items all of a sudden? That is absolutely not right. We are not doing it and we are reminding the students in my Amazon Boss Classes not to do it.” With all that she has overcome with autism and her family’s mental health history, Young says she simply stays focused in her tasks and tries not to let things get to her. With April being Autistic Awareness Month, she said she hopes that she can inspire others to remain focused and know that they can thrive in whatever they put their mind to, especially with support of friends and loved ones.

OPHELIA NIXON UKE

PUSHING PAST THE STORM OPHELIA NIXON - UKE

I

n life there are many journeys that we are destined to go through, which can end up dominating our lives causing us to become fearful of the things that truly have no power to control us, unless we’ve relinquish ourselves to it. For some, it may seem as a crushing blow that is stopping

“Don’t let the STORM FRUSTRATE you, Be DRIVEN by it!” you in your tracks from attaining the levels of success you one day hoped to achieve. However, for others, they see it as merely another challenge that has once again surfaced at an inopportune time, whereby it lends itself to serve as a distraction, and at certain moments a setback from them getting to the finish line at their anticipated time of arrival. See, in life and business, we are always taught to set goals with attainable action steps in order to see our visions come to fruition. Yet, how often were we told during those speeches that the storm clouds would come, that would block us from seeing every one of those steps listed.

But if you learned to rely on the strength you hold within, despite the hails, winds and tornadoes of life you will win, if and only if your determination and confidence aligns. For it is then that you will be able to push past anything that seeks to threaten your future. Nonetheless, if you choose to focus more on faith and your willingness to overcome, instead of the fear that you may be facing in the midst of the storm, then nothing will hinder you from getting what you want and believe in. The issues we find ourselves confronted with 9 times out of 10, are usually brought about from our trying to make sense out of the storm. If we could only learn to go with the storm rather than fighting it, we would have deeper insight into areas that we deemed as uncharted territories by simply tapping into our faith. Our faith is symbolic to what we believe in, and we would be exposed to the person we thought we weren’t, and to what we thought we were too mediocre to attain. So if you want to know how great you really are, and how far your capabilities run, then you must get out of the boat no matter how rough the storm becomes. If you’re constantly reminding yourself, that you’re alone, all things will fall into place because sometimes what the physical eyes may see isn’t necessarily what it is. Even then, you’d understand in life none of us are really ever alone although it may appear as such, because God always has someone on guard looking out for us and quite often than Photo by NOAA on Unsplash

OPHELIA NIXON UKE

we know…that someone is Him. Staying fixated on the size of the storm will take your attention off the mission which is linked to your purpose. This storm or the next one just might be bigger or stronger as its size will never remain the same, nor will the problems that are coming with it. Do you not notice every storm elicits many of the same responses, which are usually driven by fears especially when the storm is ours to go through. This is when the “why me” questions are formulated, and the “woe is me” parties are thrown, because when those difficult situations arise, we are trained to become victims of our circumstances instead victors over our trials. I want you to sit back and think on this, every single day you are faced with one type of a storm or another. • Will I dominate my storm, or will I allow it to disqualify me, tossing me into the monstrous waves that continues to grow at an increasingly high rate? I sincerely hope your answer is a bold “yes” with a declaration of you being ready to take your position demanding the storm to bow down, because you will not be told when you will have your win, especially when you know in your heart that your time is now! Let me ask you this, why do you think you never felt the impact of the storm as bad as most? STEP 1: Follow your first gut instinct REASON: The more we think on it, the more likely we are to stray away from it, until the excuses created provides us with reasons for not doing it. STEP 2: Refuse to give yourself permission to quit REASON: If you are so eager to give up on yourself, then how can you be upset for others giving up on you. The behavior displayed to others when it comes to how you treat yourself, will give them insight as to what is acceptable in their treatment of you. WWW.ENTREPRENEURPLATFORMMAGAZINE.COM

It’s not because life stopped happening! It’s because you weren’t alone. There was someone there helping to protect you from the blows of the storm, so you wouldn’t be focused on it nor consumed by the chaos that lingered. In layman terms, the storm was never given the authority to affect the quality of life you’ve chosen, as you never acknowledged it. Our storms can make us bitter because when we look at it from a defeated perspective, resentments and hurts becomes the lens that we see everything through, and no matter what we are told, the acceptance of anything seeming positive is dismissed. When you allow yourself to sit in the eye of the storm, psychological impacts are had that will render you helpless, killing off hopes, dreams, visions and goals that you set forth or had for the developing of your legacy. My friend, push past the storm! Look around you, there is devastation everywhere, but despite the devastations have you noticed something that I see? It’s you, you’re still standing, which means you’re still here, which means God has given you another day to get out of the storm that has rolled upon you! Don’t take your life for granted, you are here for a reason, and whatever that reason is my beloved, make it count, because “ you are greater than the threat of the storm.

STEP 3: Be bold amidst the storm REASON: Boldness conquerors fears, as it allows you to see the strength you had hidden within. STEP 4: Learn to embrace changes REASON: Changes promote positive growth when you learn to embrace them as it will aide you in making the proper adjustments to fit your life. It’s when we fight them that we find ourselves struggling the most.

STEP 5: Stay Focused REASON: Being focused helps to keep you motivated, and the more motivated you are, it keeps the fire on the inside burning. Yet it doesn’t stop there, it also serves as the fuel that encourages you, letting you know that as long as you allow nothing to stop you from reaching your end goals, you will get through the the toughest of circumstances. ❦

TERRI KING HUNT “If you don’t build your dream, someone else will hire you to build theirs.” Pasha Carter, co-founder of The VIP Network Inc., recalls that she was 23 years old and attending a business seminar when she heard those words for the first time. “ I was living in Atlanta, GA., working at Emory University from 9-5, coaching gymnastics from 6-9, and I was an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader. “I was working every waking hour, and yet I was still broke and unable to pay my bills. I realized I could either stand on the sidelines and cheer for millionaires or become one myself.” That day Pasha, borrowed $500 and started her first Network Marketing business. Pasha Carter, who is a highly soughtafter speaker, trainer, and business strategy expert, along with her husband Steve, have conquered the Direct Sales industry and have become the go-to leaders in the field. Not only is she the co-founder of The VIP Network Inc., she is also a member of The Forbes Coaches Council. While all of this is extremely impressive, she often tells her audience that her greatest joy and accomplishment is her family. Pasha has been married to her husband Steve for 18 years. The two met in business, and together they have four beautiful and gifted children; 2 boys Justin (9) and Steven (11) and 2 girls, Jasmine (13) and Jayla (15). Pasha grew up in Montgomery, Al. Her mother was very active in the Civil Rights Movement. She instilled early the importance of making a difference in the world by contributing her gifts and talents to her community. “I always knew it was my responsibility to take up the mantle and help the next generation.“ Pasha decided early on that she would become a lawyer. She enrolled as a Pre22 | ENTREPRENEUR PLATFORM MAGAZINE | MAY/JUNE 2020

Law student at the University of Alabama and did an internship one summer at a law firm. “I didn’t like it at all. I realized it wasn’t authentic to who I was and didn’t allow me the freedom to do the things I wanted to do.” She left Alabama and moved to Atlanta. “I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I didn’t want to be in corporate America.” While in Atlanta, she was introduced to the idea of owning her own business and controlling her own destiny. “The idea of that felt good and excited me.” Through her coaching, writing, keynote addresses, and seminars, Carter seeks to educate others about what it takes to achieve success and true financial freedom. She says that the formula for success is pretty straightforward, but it’s not simply knowing the formula, it’s the execution. “success is achieved through hard work, dedication, consistency, and belief. If you have belief, no one can stop you. If you are committed to being the best you can be at your craft and you consistently show up, you will experience success.” This must indeed be an effective formula because she has experienced a great deal of success as a businesswoman. Carter was named

She is currently on the Expert Panel of Forbes Magazine, where she writes articles, and lends her business advice to CEOs, Entrepreneurs, and Influencers around the world. Pasha has much of which to be proud. When asked what has been the most satisfying moment of her entrepreneurial journey, Carter says it’s the ability to help others. “I used to think my most satisfying moment was when we crossed the 8 Figure mark, but the most rewarding moment was when we realized we had helped other people become millionaires.” This realization was an empowering moment for Pasha because she recognized that indeed she had a blueprint. “With this blueprint, we are able to change the lives of individuals, which changes the lives of families, families impact neighborhoods, and strong neighborhoods become strong communities. By teaching the right people how to make money, we can literally change the world. This is what my mother meant when she said I must always have an each-one teach many, mentality.” Not only is Pasha changing the lives of those in the community. her children are at the age where they are becoming influencers with significant impact of their own. When asked where she sees herself in the next 5 years she states “There’s nothing that excites me more than helping the next generation, so in the next 5 years I see myself as a catalyst of wealth building for next generation, and that includes collaborating more with my children.” The plans she and her husband have for their future platforms are truly inspiring “It is my belief that every child should have the knowledge and skills to build a million-dollar business before they leave their parents’ home. So I want to create a platform to ensure this can happen for young people across the nation.” 24 | ENTREPRENEUR PLATFORM MAGAZINE | MAY/JUNE 2020

Pasha is truly an innovative and creative thinker, always coming up with new ideas and strategies. “I surround myself with people who are futuristic thinkers. If I am going to create and evolve in a way that allows me to support the next generation I have to stay ahead of the curve. So I have to live in the future”. This outside of the box and futuristic thinking is how Carter experiences her greatest level of success. “The future of the marketplace is internetbased, this is why 99% of my marketing is done online and through social media. I decided years ago that I was going to master this online space so I could do what is called attraction marketing. I don’t search for clients or customers, instead, I attract them.

PASHA CARTER

The most powerful attribute of Pasha Carter is her ability to truly enjoy life. As an African American woman, she demonstrates that not only is success possible, but a balanced and harmonious life is as well. She encourages women to find joy in life by making time for family, enjoying the beauty around them, and taking time to reflect. “I don’t have a typical day, because I allow every day to be different. Some days I work from my office in my robe. Other days, I sit by the pool to work, while on other days, I work from a bench at the basketball gym. There are days where I work extra-long hours, but there are weeks where I take days off to spend time with my kids. The

ability to do this is truly what makes me powerful, and it’s what I love about being an entrepreneur.” The life of Pasha Carter is a true floor to ceiling success story, and there are no limits for the future of her life.
