EDITORS MESSAGE Dear Ladies and Gents, What a journey it has been. I started this magazine almost five years ago, never dreaming of all the support, love and success that En Vie would receive throughout the years. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to you, our readers. Each month we strive to put together the most stylish and chic spread that highlights the latest in fashion news, tips and trends. At En Vie, we are blessed to be working with some of the top designers, photographers, artists, and creative minds in the world. I am honoured to be a part of our editorial and creative teams as each day at the office is always loads of fun. I believe that life should be full of love and laughter. Therefore, we always strive to have an element of fun in the magazine. Life and fashion are to be enjoyed. That is why, leading up to our 5th Anniversary issue in October, we are taking some time out to enjoy life and to make our anniversary issue our best edition yet. We will be away during the months of July, August, and September, but we’ll be back, in style (pardon the pun) for October. Our mission is to present to you the crème de la crème and we promise we will deliver. We will still be around and actively updating our social media, so we will not disappear completely. To each and every one of you, thank you for your love and support. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve got in store for you for our anniversary issue! Best Wishes, Gerd

orn and raised Saint Petersburg, stylist, Polina Zheleznikova, was surrounded by and often frequented museums and theaters where she was enchanted by the beautiful costumes. With her childhood curiosity of clothing, she received her university degree in Fine Art Critics. Polina answers En Vie’s questions about her successful career. EV: When did you first begin styling and what led you to this career choice? PZ: While studying at the university, I fell in love with fashion photography. Soon enough I won a Russian Fashion week competition as the best young and ambitious photographer. For these works I made all the arrangements myself – costumes, locations, style. Yet soon I realized – what I really want to do is styling. I like the process of organizing, that scrutinous way of making costumes and the mindplay of images going from a concept into realizing them into actual looks. Also, I need to confess, I’m a shopaholic, and often times I buy things that are not particularly wearable, yet are highly artistic. For many years I’ve acquired a collection of various fashion pieces. I started styling for my friends but was approached by Russian model agencies such as LMA and Andy Fiord models. Since

then I’m completely head over heels with my job as a stylist. In this regard my photography background helps me a lot, because now I compose looks based on how they would look in the pictures. EV: What are you most proud of? PZ: I’m proud of my team. It’s absolutely important to find “your” people in this sphere. We often times understand each other without words, for example, our photographer doesn’t like pencil skirts and I try to avoid using them. I know the angles and the perspectives of her shots, so there’s always a way to use this knowledge for a common good. I respect the taste of our make up artist and trust her – it’s a common thing for our team to say “do whatever you feel is right”. Our recent work can be seen in this issue of En Vie. EV: Do you have advice for aspiring stylists? PZ: My advice is to absorb as much visual information as possible. Look through piles of magazines and shoots and refer to history and art. Take a camera – you must "feel the frame" to find out how to distinguish photography styling from a personal one. One should see the difference between the image and reality. And last but not least – travel. That will keep your enthusiasm and fantasy working.

‌ the spirit of the 1970s. 2015’s spring and Autumn runways were a blast to the past. Every season, one decade becomes the theme at the runways, and this year designers invoked the spirit of the 1970s. But don't expect to be donning full-fledged butterfly collars. This time, it's all about the small subtle details. Whether you wear knee-length boots, high slits and white-laced blouses, or eclectic prints, soft layering and rich colors, these details hark the fabulous 70s and make their mark for the autumn season. Shift dresses, trench coats and free-shaped dresses were all updated in modern textiles for the new season. Billowing maxi-dresses, vibrant colours, ruffles, pleats and funky colour combinations gave the retro vibe a jolt of fun for the fall/ winter 2015 season. This season waists are high and layers are long. Tunics paired over slightly flared pants or long

skirts were seen on the runways. Baby doll dresses are a key item as well as the overriding trend of masculinity with a sleeker, slimmer silhouette. There is emphasis on the waist. The belted waist lends itself well into a slight military aesthetic. The color palette includes olives, forest greens and navies. However there are also soft, pure neutrals and cosmetic tones like camel and chalky whites that are juxtaposed with warm, rich tones like cognac, saffron and blood orange. Flowery headpieces, multiple large chunky bracelets, and layered necklaces pair well with this trend. Full eyebrows, dramatic eye makeup with long lashes and nude lips keep true to the 70s look. Keep the hair fuss-free and natural. From carefree hippie to cool chic bohemian, when it comes to the 70s trend, clothing can be as bold or subtle as you like. So feel free to experiment this fall!

MY TOWN

MY TOWN " BOSTON, MA, USA" Text / ERICA VAN NOY Photography / FAYFOTO/BOSTON

M

y name is Erica Van Noy, I have been living in Boston, MA a little over a year. Throughout my stay here, I have experienced the overwhelming sense of comradery and fellowship among the young single adults, I have seen how much love people have for each other here and it is truly inspiring. This place is a jumble of creative people, intellectuals, family units, free spirits, athletes, and foodies alike. The winter is sterile and harsh, the summers are hot and muggy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. This is my town and I extend my welcome to you. Boston, MA is known for it’s incredible “Boston Strong” spirit, focus on education and epic winter weather. This year was no exception. Boston broke its record for snowiest winter yet, with a whopping snowfall of 110.6 inches of snow. Through the entire month of February there was a blizzard every weekend. Most of the state rarely did anything besides go to work, when they were able. With all of the snow days we were trapped in our homes for much of that month. Debilitating and record breaking, the storm of 2015 tested all of our strength. I vividly remember having to walk in the road opposed to the sidewalk because the snow banks that exceeded five feet intruded everywhere. Every home that I encountered had experienced traumatizing and legendary ice dams. My neighbors

actually had to have all of the floors in their home redone due to the damage of it all. Nevertheless, we all endured and persevered as we shoveled driveways until our backs gave out and pushed snow blowers until they died. The warm, spring weather has finally entered, and we are welcoming it like an old friend. Honestly and humbly we have treasured the foliage that has emerged. That uniting spirit here was truly tested during the Boston Marathon Bombing of 2013. On April 15, two bombs went off near the finish line, killing three and wounding more than 260 other people. Those who live here in Boston all stood together and helped anyone and everyone who needed it. This year, at the Boston Marathon many of the victims of that act of violence were healed physically and ready to run the marathon again. I cannot fully describe the mass amount of love, support and determination that filled the air that chilly April day as those runners crossed the finish line once again.

We are Boston Strong!

The citizens of Boston whether they were born here or not, all have the ability to look past differences and stand as one. We are courageous, passionate and kind to each other through all obstacles.

SOME KIND OF HOT Text / ESPER ANZA URBAEZ Photography / JOE EVANS – W W W. JOE-EVANS.DE Model / CRISTINA MARIA SAR ACUT Styling / K ATHRIN LUX – W W W.K ATHRINLUX .COM Hair & Make up / LISA BELYANINA

Stay gold, he would say. Cristina remembered how Joe would look deep into her brown eyes and say those words every time they parted. He hated to say, “Good bye” or even “See you later.” She never fully understood what he meant but thought perhaps he was referring to her long, blonde hair. During their school-day romance, they’d skip class and escape into the mysterious woods behind the school grounds to steal long, sweet kisses and share deep, dark secrets. Her staple look; A-lined poodle skirts with deep pockets, high bright socks, black and white English shoes and a large, colorful scarf; she owned a different colour for each day of the week. Joe especially liked her scarf, which was some kind of orange. He thought it made her look hot and sexy. She’d pose like a model and pretend the forest floor was her runway. He’d pretend to snap photos on his ‘air’ camera and say silly things like, “Make love to the camera, baby!”

With his voice still so clear in her mind and heart after so long, she returns to their special spot by the pond where they made love for the first time. Nothing much has changed. The reflective lake ever so still and eerie, the tall trees with yellow leaves surrounding the area like protective guards and the mysterious foggy horizon which seemed to predict a gloomy future seemed so familiar but not as magical somehow. She recalls every touch, every embrace and every “I love you” exchanged. As the memories of Joe flood her mind, she is overwhelmed by a deep sadness and nostalgia for a past full of passion and innocence. Her current staple style of nude-toned pumps, beige over coat and silk scarf of some kind of gold reflect her state of mind; subdued, mature, and serene. As a melancholic sigh slowly exits her mouth and a sudden breeze flows through her hair, she realizes why always said, “Stay gold.”

he graciously stands in the center of paradise. Soaking in the sunrays as they shine through the tall trees that surround her, she wears a full-length black skirt and a long white-laced dress. Her world is mysterious and fragile like a forgotten dream. Photographer, Ana Fer Martinez, masterfully created this beautifully artistic world.

Her photography progressed even more when she entered the Hallmark Institute of Photography located in Massachusetts, USA. Graduating in 2012, she left with a wealth of knowledge that launched her career. She then moved to Los Angeles, California where she had the opportunity to work with established fashion photographer Catherine Asanov.

Going through Martinez’s look books, every image she creates is marked with the same delicate elegance and polished with the same sophistication. Her ability to capture the essence of an emotion, or the beauty of a moment through her lens is like a painter capturing the soul of his or her subject on a canvas. Perhaps it was Mexico City, the bustling and active city where she was born and raised, that influenced her sensitivity to people and places. Surrounded by an architectonic metropolis, beautiful landscapes, amazingly warm people and a gorgeous culture, she became fascinated with the process of mixing it all with fashion photography.

Martinez’s strives to merge fashion, beauty and elegance in every image she creates. She feels her work allows her to express her vision on style. With every photograph taken by Martinez she enhances her creativity, which she says allows her to, “Turn the everyday things into something more.” Check out Ana’s amazing photography at www.anafermartinez.com.

HOT SUMMER Text / K YLIE EUSTACE , K YLIE'S PROFESSIONAL – W W W.K YLIEEUSTACE .COM. AU Make up / K YLIE EUSTACE Photography / K YLIE’S PROFESSIONAL Model / CAT DEL ANY @K ATZ MANAGEMENT

WARMER WEATHER MAKE-UP TIPS Does your make-up look great in the summer heat? Especially in high humidity. Is water resistant makeup really possible? Here are a few tips to make summer make-up easy! Your summer foundation colour should perfectly match your body. Test the shade on your jaw or collarbones. Choose a foundation that will be sweat proof, water resistant or waterproof. Research the brand you are using for your product choice. Waterproof foundations are either strongly chemical driven or a natural wax /oil base formula. Wax based products allow water beads to sit on top of the product, which may also be combined with quality loose mineral formulas that contain Zinc and quality oxides. Zinc repels water, allows your make-up to stay put and will even heal your skin. A product that is concentrated with a dense amount of pigment or colour in the formula is also recommended. For a desirable look in hot weather, shade your face with darker mineral foundation/bronzer for extra definition and colour. Use mineral and cream eye shadows as they work well in the water and quality brands should have excellent durability. Waxy based shadows and eyeliners containing Carnauba Wax, and Candelilla Wax work really well when set with concentrated loose mineral eye shadow. Wax based lip products are great in extreme summer conditions too. Splash proof mascara is a must when you are thinking of swimming! When choosing a style of make-up for hot summer weather you can’t go wrong with lightly defined lash lines, natural tones of gold, bronze and peach shades, you will look naturally flawless by being quite minimal with your makeup on summer days and evenings.

Splash proof mascara is a must when you are thinking of swimming!

FASHION MODEL TINA TAMASHIRO Text / K ALI SPEERE Photography / AK ANE KIYOHAR A

W

ith exclusive backstage access at this year’s S/S 2015 Kansai Collection, En Vie staff interviewed one of Japan's most popular up-and-coming fashion models, Tina Tamashiro. The cute, fresh-faced, 17 year-old model, was given the honor of opening the runway show. Wearing a very “now” summer-festival themed outfit (suede fringe shorts, feather and beaded accessories, cork heel platforms, a flowy white lace robe, and her signature, red lipstick), Tina took a few minutes before her final runway walk to answer En Vie reporter Kali Speere's questions. EV: What inspired you to become a model? TT: My mother named me after a famous model she liked, and hearing that story when I was a little kid is what first got me interested in the industry. I also liked looking at fashion magazines from when I was a preschooler, so that was another inspirational point in my life. EV: Who inspires you? Who do you look up to? TT: Not anyone in particular per se, but I get inspired by other models like those I saw today at Kansai Collection. "Wow, she's got a cool walk," I think while watching the older, more experienced models. I think it's good to take notice of the good points of others and then learn from them. EV: What are some of your favorite fashion trends for Spring Summer 2015? TT: This year, I'm into the 70's inspired style with fringe etc. that seems to be trending. At first I was like, "Is this really back in style?," but then it suddenly got more popular and I was surprised. With 70's style, there is the flashy, bulky jewelry, but there is also the sweeter, cute stuff like fringe. I think it's all up to you to take those trends and make it into your own style.

EV: What’s your favorite type of photoshoot? TT: Although it is tough to shoot spring/summer clothes in the wintery seasons, I find outdoor shoots very enjoyable and fun. Indoor shoots are also fun, but in a different way. EV: What do you hope to be doing 5 years from now? TT: Now I'm 17, so 22...I can't really imagine it, but I want to continue modeling and perhaps try get into some other genre of the fashion or entertainment industry.

EV: What’s the best thing about modeling? TT: Of course since I love fashion, it's fun to be able to wear many different outfits. I also enjoy seeing people's positive reactions to the magazines and commercials I appear in. EV: What advice do you have for aspiring models? TT: I myself didn't think I would be able to become a model, but I just really believed in myself and think that this desire to be a model is what made it possible. I'm originally from Okinawa and really wanted to make it big in Tokyo quickly and I think challenging myself with that goal was very important. EV: Do you have a pet? TT: I have a hedgehog! It's name is Mochio. EV: What's your favorite food? TT: There isn't anything I dislike. I like everything, so I can't choose a favorite! EV: What are you into recently? TT: Recently, I've been into cooking. If there is something I want to eat, I look it up on Cookpad (a Japanese recipe website) and cook it!
