Where to December this Festive Season

5 MINUTES WITH

Divha Mbalavhali Former Phalaphala FM presenter known as Mbalavhali D, has now set his sights on the big apple as new Vodacom ambassador. He talks career, motivation and influence. By: Lukoto Fhumulani Envy: Who is Mbalavhali D? Mbalavhali D: Is a vibrant and energetic man who draws inspiration from God apart from all the good people doing well and fear God in this Earth we are living in.

Envy: Since you are involved in various facets of the entertainment industry, how do you balance all that with family? MB: My family understands me and my work better before I even must explain myself and my whereabouts, so it makes it easy for me to work.

Envy: What motivates you? MB: Well, the passion in me drives me to do what I do. I figured out the people’s person in me from a very young age and decided to run this race. Envymagazine 11

"A person is a person by other people and DR Ragimana’s which says working for people is working for God and working for God is working for people” Envy: What influenced you to become an MC? MB: Uhmm, I love attention lol, I’d attend a party when young and just feel something is missing on most speeches. Like I’d wish I was the one talking. And whenever I’d get a chance to speak, people would love my words. So yeah, that’s where it all started.

Envy: Being involved in an ever-evolving industry with its own challenges do you believe you have enough support system? . Envymagazine 12

MB: Well support is another thing which is always given, and from my side I think I’ve received enough although I feel evolving as it is, I must just stay relevant and always be on top of my game.

Envy: How does it feel being the Vodacom ambassador? MB: Whoooo, I love it. I feel like wearing those colours every day. Yesterday I just updated about it on my social media pages, a picture and a caption that said, “Vodacom colours look good on me”.

Envy: What inspires you to be successful?

MB: Life in general does, I think life has its own ways of cornering each of us at some point. You do nothing to earn nothing in this life; it is always about reaping what we sow

Envy: What goals have you set for yourself for the future? MB: Well I want to be in a position where I can create jobs for other people, groom upcoming stars and just be someone who lives right and keep inspiring other people. Apart from managing Phuluso Thenga, a gospel artist who recently joined Joyous Celebration, I’ve recently registered Mr. MC Foundation, an NPO which a lot will be achieved under.

AUGUSTUS WATERS

POETRY SESSION BUTTERFLY PARABLE A poem by Augustus Waters This is a story of a butterfly Before it was a butterfly When it was just a caterpillar living in my stomach Feeding on my tender feelings Hey, there is, SOMETHING ABOUT YOU ... I don't know what it is but there is SOMETHING ABOUT YOU I first noticed when I saw you pass by This, THING ABOUT YOU makes me want to know you It makes the butterflies in my stomach react It makes me want to get close to you Become your friend and something more

This, THING ABOUT YOU makes me want to face my fears Like standing on the edge and willing to fall

Like climbing a ladder to the STARS and take trips around the SUN Run a marathon on SATURN'S RINGS

Play Paintball with the SHOOTING STARS Get a ride from the METEOR cab and... Bring back to EARTH ORION'S BELT as a souvenir But first, I have to show you how these butterflies make me feel

Take a nap on the MOON's surface Follow the MILKY-WAY for that outer world calcium That's spaced out

Beard grooming tips and essential products By: Abongile Ndevu

In the summer months, when your face is subjected to unrelenting heat and unforgiving pollution the need for proper grooming becomes even more important. Here are some beard grooming tips to follow in the summer, so that when the temperature rises your beard game also hits new heights. Step 1: Wash it This is probably one of the most obvious tips but most of the time it is misunderstood completely. Some men think that allowing the shampoo that runs off their head and down their face while showering is good enough to clean their beard. This is of course so untrue. You need specialised beard shampoo to unclog the hair follicles on your face, while also nourishing the roots and sealing in the moisture in each strand.

Step 3: Style it Once you’ve taken the necessary steps to nourish your facial and skin, it’s time to move on to the possibly exciting step on having a healthy beard. In order to make your beard look lustrous and well-groomed you will be needing a good beard balm to help you achieve that look. A balm adds volume and shape to your beard, while also hydrating the skin and hair together. It also helps keep stray hairs in place, so that your beard game is always impeccable.

Step 5: Stay hydrated This happens to be sound advice for the summer in general but proper hydration is the foundation for healthy facial hair as well. The summer heat causes your body to lose liquids at an increased rate, and the lack of moisture can cause your beard hair to grow brittle, making them prone to breakage. However, this is easy enough to combat, just make sure you drink lots of water.

Step 2: Oil it Beard oil not only acts as a skin and hair care product that doubles up as a styling agent but also makes for an essential product in any man’s grooming kit. It acts as moisturising and conditioning agent for your facial hair as well as the skin underneath, softening a taming the bristles while hydrating the skin. Here some more good news with using beard oil! It is very easy to incorporate into your grooming regime. Just rub some into your hand and massage it into your beard after taking a shower, that is when your hair follicles and pores are open to easily absorb it to reap the benefits!

Step 4: Trim it While shaving off your beard because of the heat would be admitting defeat, there is no shame in strategically trimming of an inch or so. In fact, besides giving your beard a professional sculpted look, the missing inch could prove to be the key in the battle against annoying skin irritation. Not only does the trimming give your skin access to more airflow, it even makes your beard easier to clean. Don’t worry, you can always regrow that extra inch when the weather starts to change.

WHAT IS POLYAMOROUS AND HOW DOES IS WORK? By: Fhumulani Lukoto

People tend to express love in different ways and no relationship is the same, although most people have heard the term polyamory, not everyone is clear on the meaning or how these non-monogamous relationship work. Envymagazine 25

Polyamorous is defined as a practice or desire for sexual relationship with more than one partner, with the consent of all the people involved. Most people mistake polyamorous relationship to open relationship, and which is not always the case.

A polyamorous relationship involves being in a relationship with multiple people, but having one main partner when for others polymory is the possibility of being in two completely separate relationships. Both individuals know their partners lovers.

Polyamorous relationship does not follow the societal construct of a relationship, but for a polyamorous relationship to work everyone involved must be open and honest in terms of what they want and need out the union. Having an open communication is of huge importance in a polyamorous relationship and boundaries are also there to help define who can enter a relationship and having limits on how much time can be spent with each other, so that issues do not arise. With all that said it does not mean that challenges and tides are not found in polyamorous relationships. Struggles are there with just one partner, now imagine two or more. The more people involved the more challenges are there. Polyamory removes secrecy and betrayal of trust that surrounds an affair. This relationship only works if both individuals are completely on board with the concept. Polyamory differs from open relationship. Polyamorous relationship and open relationship are both considered nonmonogamous but different. Polyamorous relationship is not completely about sex, whereas an open relationship is having outside relationship that does not form into anything. The point for polyamory is to have multiple relationships where in love and emotional connections are off importance.

We are not strangers to the saying “two is company, three is crowd” other people do not find a relationship with three, four or more partners crowded. Before you take a step into a polyamorous relationship, here are some questions that you and your partner should ask yourselves: ➢ How jealous are you? ➢ Is this what you both want? ➢ What is your motivation? ➢ How secure do you feel in your relationship? ➢ What are your ground rules? ➢ Is your communication effective? ➢ How will polyamory affect your future together? ➢ Can you handle your partner dating someone else? Polyamory is not a legally protected status in South Africa and we do not have people coming out or talking about it. Now that we have defined polyamorous relationship for you do tell us at: www.envymag.co.za if this relationship is for you or not?

It is understandable that Christmas is around the corner which could make it impossible for most people to stick to a healthy diet. Your diet should consist of lots of fruits and vegetables, so whether you make yourself a fruity smoothie or vegetable one. You need to also focus on eating the right amount of protein, fats, and good carbohydrates

This doesn’t mean starve yourself so if you are hungry do eat but try to concentrate on how much you eat. Try to not overeat When eating there is a point where you have eaten enough and are satisfied, and then there is that point that many of us go past, that is the point you should try to avoid. Try eating smaller meals throughout the day

It is always important to drink enough water. This is especially necessary during the summer months. Keeping your body hydrated helps the heart more easily to pump blood through the blood vessels to the muscles. And, it helps the muscles work efficiently. The amount of water you should drink depends on many different variables. A useful way to test if you are drinking enough water is to pay attention to your urine.

It is understandable that during summer you might have activities planned with family and friends but try to get as much exercise as you can. There are so many ways you can exercise effectively especially during the summer months. Running, walking, swimming, hiking are all simple forms of exercises you can do outside in the sunny weather. Unless you have severed health restrictions, there is a form of exercise out there waiting for you! Focus on the core Your core is more like the foundation to a house, it keeps your body strong and solid. Whether you are training to form a six pack in your stomach or merely wanting to be stronger,

CARAMEL APPLES Ingredients

Directions Special equipment: a candy thermometer; 6 candy apple sticks, large lollipops sticks or dowel rods, cut to 5-inch lengths with one end sharpened. 1. Add the sugar, corn syrup and 1/2 cup water to a small saucepan over medium- high heat. Stir a few times before the sugar begins to boil to combine the ingredients. Attach a candy thermometer to the inside of the pan and bring the syrup to a boil. Cook until the syrup begins to turn an amber color, the swirl the syrup to even out the color. Continue to cook until syrup is a deep amber and the thermometer reads between 375 and 380 degrees, then remove from heat. Carefully pour in the cream and gently whisk to combine. Stir the butter, vanilla and a pinch of salt until smooth. keep off the heat but keep the thermometer attached to the pan.

1 (4-pound) whole roasting chicken

2 teaspoons unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon ground coriander

2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

2 garlic cloves, minced

3 shallots, peeled and halved

3 fresh thyme sprigs

1 lemon, quartered

2. Pierce the apples through the stem ends about half way through with candy apple sticks. Line a baking sheet with parchment and lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray. 3. When the temperature of the caramel reads around 190 degrees, dip an apple, using the stick as a handle and swirling to coat completely. Allow excess caramel to drip off the bottom and use a spatula to help remove any large amount of caramel, as it will pool around the apple when you set it down to cool on the lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining apples, gentle heating the caramel on the stove over low heat, stirring, if it gets too thick for dipping. Allow the caramel to set and cool completely before serving or wrapping apples, about 1 hour.
