E N V Y the People Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special exclusive for you! The founders of E N V Y Magazine have agreed to sit down and give me a deeper look into what makes this publication great! The siblings of the Darkbyrd clan, Aubrey Darkbyrd (cassiusricci resident), Analena Darkbyrd (amaribengaza resident) and Kiett Darkbyrd Prince (kiett resident) created E N V Y Magazine in March 2016 to create one place for all of the Second Life community to share their events, happenings, fashions and more. Their vision was to represent every aspect of Second Life in an inclusive and diverse platform, E N V Y Magazine. Keep reading! You don't want to miss this!

VOL. 3.5

E N V Y the People: The Founders By Sarah Elizabeth Benham Sarahelisebeth Brenham (SB): What was your inspiration for E N V Y Magazine? Kiett Darkbyrd Prince: I don't know if you remember this Aubrey, but you asked me about creating a magazine just after I had co-founded another magazine in 2014. When Aubrey, and Analena approached me again in February 2016 about creating a new magazine for all of SL, I was stoked! Aubrey's idea to include not only what you typically see in just about all of the SL magazines, but what you did not see, a more well rounded representation of all lives in SL. The communities, events and people who are in the greater SL community who have interests in different fashion genres; role play communities; events; bloggers; furry and other nonhuman communities, and everything in-between. Analena Darkbyrd: I remember Aubrey and I were sitting down after my Mom had closed down an VOL 3.5

academy we used to attend and he brought the idea up for coming up with a magazine. My sister Kiett is part of the fashion industry, so we knew she would be perfect for that aspect of fashion and modeling. I knew there were already multiple magazines out [in Second Life], so I came up with R.E.A.O.L.: Representing Every Aspect of Life. Being that I was doing this with my brother and sister, people I'm most close with, that was the inspirational part to me. [We changed the name from R.E.A.O.L to E N V Y, but kept the original inspiration. To represent every aspect of Second Life is E N V Y Magazine’s mission statement.]

SB: Did you expect this success? Aubrey Darkbyrd: No, we did not expect success so fast. Kiett: Are we successful? Have we made it yet to the big times?

[successful] as we would like to be, but we will get there. But until we win a SL award I don’t feel successful. I'm the dreamer.

Kiett: I could care less about an award. Look at SL. There are so many avi’s who created an organization just for the purpose to hand out awards to give themselves and their friends and even just to give an award to some designer they’ve been stalking and they want to be friends with them. Screw the awards. If the RL Oscars and Denzel Washington, and Leonardo DiCaprio taught us anything, real talent will go unrecognized and may never be honored unless you fill their expectation of why they think you should be. of Second Life (steps off her soap box)? I look to the loyalty of those who are on staff with E N V Y, developing/ showcasing their talents and our morale character as a magazine to gauge our success.

Aubrey: We are not as E N V Y MAGAZINE - 13

We are not an urban magazine, we are not a fashion magazine, we are not a role play magazine, we are all of these things and more. What award is out there for that? I wonder who we can compare ourselves to as far as measuring our success if we are the only community magazine with the mission to represent every aspect of Second Life (steps off her soap box)? I look to the loyalty of those who are on staff with E N V Y, developing/ showcasing their talents and our morale character as a magazine to gauge our success. Analena: I think that every time E N V Y grows, E N V Y becomes successful because we are further than where we use to be. So, to me everyday is a success for E N V Y Magazine.SB: How is it being a family business? Kiett: Being a family business, from my perspective, is refreshing and frustrating all at the same time.

14 - E N V Y MAGAZINE

"It's refreshing in that I

can speak my mind freely. And frustrating because we all speak our minds freely! " When we disagree we handle things professionally, but there are times when a few things have to be settled the old fashion way, the sibling way. That’s all I have to say about that (laughs)! Analena: Kiett couldn't have answered that better (laughs). I love working with my brother and sister but man! We are some strong minded people and they drive me NUTSSSS! But, when it's all said and done it pays off well because if we weren’t so strong minded and if we didn't stand our ground E N V Y wouldn't be where it is today. We have more good days than bad days though (laughs). SB: What are your specialties within E N V Y? Analena Darkbyrd: I'm over corporate operations, human resources and accounting and payroll. I ensure that everything is working smoothly between the departments, logistics

of customer service with internal and external customers. I’m the Chief Operations Officer (COO). Aubrey: I am the Chief Executive Officer and I negotiate corporate contracts for blogging, sponsorships, corporate partnerships and marketing growth and sales. Kiett: Our Executive Fashion Director Arianna Jasmine has insisted I have a title, so I am the Executive Editor in Chief (smiles). Whatever needs to be done to have E N V Y published every other Tuesday is my primary role. SB: What are some future plans for E N V Y? Aubrey: To have everyone in SL and RL enjoying E N V Y, reading it and being part of E N V Y’s community. To host events and have fashions shows. To make E N V Y a force to be seen and heard. For our staff to have the type of experience and opportunities they’ve desired on SL and show the diversity of SL.

VOL. 3.5

Analena: We moved from our magazine being the only weekly publication to the only bi-weekly publication in August of this year, after publishing nearly two year’s worth of work in less than 6 months! Our staff needed a rest, we needed a rest and yet, we also needed to fill the niche of being a community magazine with current and relevant information.

"Our future plans may involve us looking into how to best serve our greater SL community and our corporate partners Break Beatz Entertainment, FADDISH, SWANK and the Rose Theatre Gallery at Angel Manor Estates.

We are also looking into revamping the production process and our look for next year possibly. We have a new Marketing Director whom we are very excited about, and who has taken a sincere and honest approach at restructuring the Marketing Department. It's my hope that from her and her team's efforts that we will have the greater possibility to expand into diverse SL communities, fund the Visionaire scholarship for photographers and offer employee ownership of E N V Y Magazine. There are so many ideas we have! SB: What does E N V Y mean to you all?

N V Y can exhaust me, it also rejuvenates me. I really think we have the right staff synergy , and I appreciate how they communicate. SB: Thank you to all of

Analena and I was brainstorming on the next thing we could do. Analena brought up a conversation that we had had several times over and over again and Kiett was like let’s do it. That was December 2015. Analena made a date of 2/27/16 for us to release and we made the deadline. It was hard work but our passion couldn't be touched. AN INTERVIEW WITH KIETT PRINCE, EXECUTIVE EDITOR IN CHIEF OF E N V Y MAGAZINE By Sarah Elisabeth Brenham Today, I spoke with the third co-founder of this last and final installation of E N V Y the People: The Founders. I want to share with you what I learned about this fabulous woman, to give you yet another reason as to why this publication is amazing so you can tell everyone you know to read it! Sarahelisebeth Brenham (SB): How did you discover Second Life? Kiett Prince (Kiett resident): About 8 years ago, someone read about Second Life in Wall Street and thought I would be interested in it. I signed up then and loved it. My avi was Empyrean Cela and I stayed mostly to myself loving on my blinged out prim shoes! I left SL after RL became extremely busy, but came back to SL as this lovely Amazonian. When I came back to Second Life, I was determined to get out of those primmy shoes and not be a loner. So, I explored SL; graduated from Amici Modeling Agency & Academy as a certified runway, print and store model; VOL 3.5

attended and graduated from Brookhaven Medical School with a doctorate in OB/GYN, Family and Emergency Medicine. Apparently, after I became Director at the now defunct but largest roleplay community at Olrich General Hospital, I wasn’t busy enough, so I co-founded TEOM Magazine with my friends, Selena Moonlight, Amity Sorbet, also with Darla Watanabee. Second Life was extremely busy, fun, creative and I have made a lot of friends, and even established family connections with Adonis Lubomir my brother, Bailey Nightingale, my nephew, my Capricorn sisters and of course, my newest adopted family, the Darkbyrds. SB: When your family decided to create E N V Y, what was your initial reaction? Kiett Prince (KB): Excited! Followed by immediate regret after I agreed to help. I had nearly a year off from an intense role play, time off from another magazine I helped co-found and, was about to start classes at the

renowned Visionaire Institute for professional photographer certification. I wasn't sure I would have the passion to see it through and I certainly did not want to disappoint my newly adopted family. But, here we are.

“I'm driven by E N V Y so much that it is interwoven in my RL. I have a hard time *not* thinking about it!” SB: Outside of E N V Y, any future plans? KB: To connect with all of my family and friends again. I've not seen very much of any of them in these last eight months since E N V Y Magazine was realized. I certainly hope to work on building my editorial photography skills as well, and perhaps dabble a bit in fashion or pose making. But if all I end up doing is taking a nap, I would count that as a successful endeavor as well! Thank you Ms. Princefor sitting down to chat with me!

Sarah Tremor, owner and designer of Edelfabrik By Kiett Prince

Guten Tag E N V Y Readers! We are here with none other than the energetic and spry Miss Sarah Tremor the owner, mesh designer and creator of Edelfabr\k! She uses Blender, Photoshop and a little Black Forest magic to bring you original content for all mesh body types! If you didn’t guess it, she’s a German designer! We chat, we visit her store, we exchange horoscope signs and of course, I fan girl all over her! Kiett Prince (KP): *smiles warmly* Yay! Welcome to the E N V Y Magazine headquarters! *turns chair around to face Sarah, pulling out interview recorder* Oh wait Sarah! Is this your creation that you're wearing??? *Sarah is wearing a sexy outfit that reminds Kiett of a

Tokyo inspired street style pink and grey ensemble that Kiett has not seen replicated anywhere in SL! Loving it!* Sarah Tremor (Sarah Tremor): Yes Kiett :) That’s one of my latest :)! KP: *grins* I love it!’

Sarah Tremor:

:) Thank you!

KP: You're so welcome! What is this look? Is this Edgy Punk? Sarah Tremor: Well, most of my creations are slightly provocative in the way of "accidentally sexy", but not without class. And almost any of it is mix and match. KP: Which is super important! I hate not being able to mix and match! Now, the name of your store? *Kiett tries to pronounce it using a German accent* EDELFABRIK Sarah Tremor: laughs at Kiett’s accent....[Adele-fabric] :). KP: Where'd you get the name from? *laughs at herself* Sarah Tremor: Yes, thats a German word, a 2 word combination it means "noble factory" KP: I wasn't too far off track! German! *pats herself on the back* Are you German? Sarah Tremor: Yeah, I am German. *laughs* KP: Guten! I love my Germans! I think in your style, it is very modern German and street style Tokyo to me - very sexy, very creative and unique!
