Welcome Participants and Spectators to the 40th Anniversary of the Rod Run to the End of the World Car Show presented by the Beach barons car Club.
As the President of this organization, I am thrilled to extend a welcome to all participants and spectators to our 40th year of hosting this event. The show takes place in Ocean Park, WA on what was once a cow pasture known as Wilson Field. This pasture was purchased and renovated by the members of the Beach Barons Car Club who care for and maintain it to the condition you see here today. The event holds a special place in our hearts as it symbolizes the passion, camaraderie, and sheer excitement that define our Hot Rod community.
To all participants, whether showing your classic or custom car or simply joining us to admire the cars on display, I express my appreciation for your support and enthusiasm. Our club members have worked all year to make this, our 40th year, a great event for you to enjoy.
To our spectators, I invite you to immerse yourself in the exciting atmosphere of the Rod Run, where the sights and sounds of classic cars create an electrifying energy that is truly contagious. Your presence adds an extra layer of joy and vibrancy to our event, and we are grateful for your support.
As we prepare to embark on our 40-year milestone, I encourage everyone attending to cherish every moment, forge new friendships, and create lasting memories of what we consider, the best car show in the Pacific Northwest. However, please do not take my word for it. I encourage you to read the comments of others and leave your own thoughts/suggestions on our website: www.info@ beachbarons.com. Please note, this is the only, and the official communication site for the Beach Barons Car Club.
In closing, I would like to thank all participants, spectators, volunteers, county commissioners, public works personal, law enforcement agencies, merchants, local organizations, and most of all, my fellow club members. This event could not take place without the total cooperation of all involved. Thank You!
Lastly, I must ask everyone to please respect the rules of the road, and the rules of the Beach Barons Car Club. In the past we have received complaints that some of our rules do not sit well, however, we do have our reasons, and will enforce them just as the law enforcement agencies will enforce theirs. So please, no pets on the field and no consumption of alcohol during our event.
Respectfully,
Mark Cady
President, Beach Barons Car Club

The City of Long Beach wishes all the participants and attendees of this year’s
The Peninsula’s annual Rod Run weekend is a loud, proud tribute to the golden age of American car manufacturing.
Car-lovers from all over the West roar into town to take part in one of the largest hot-rod shows on the West Coast, for a weekend of car shows, cruises, and events.
There are more than 800 official Rod Run entries at Ocean Park’s Wilson Field, plus many who bring pet vehicles to the beach for informal cruises and showing off.
As early as Thursday evening, spectators begin setting up tents and RVs in relatives’ yards and staking out good curb-side seats for the traditional Friday and Saturday evening cruises in Long Beach.
The official Saturday cruise highlights the communities of the Peninsula’s north end, starting at the Beach Barons’ Wilson Field. Cruise cars will turn right onto Sandridge Road as needed to keep traffic flowing smoothly. Another right turn will be made on 250th Pl. to U St. then onto Ocean Park and Surfside through the historic village of Oysterville and Nahcotta and back to Ocean Park. A special award will be given to the best cruiser by the Ocean Park Chamber of Commerce at the awards ceremony on Sunday.
Starting as early as Thursday but reaching a crescendo on Saturday before receding Sunday, unofficial cruising is a fun and exciting activity up and down U.S. Highway 101/Pacific Avenue.
With so many cars and people in close proximity, it’s important to obey all traffic laws and follow the Rod Run cruise signs. Resist the temptation to burn rubber or engage in other tomfoolery that might place spectators or vehicle occupants at risk. Don’t plan on getting anywhere in a hurry on this jam-packed weekend — passing the car in front of you won’t accomplish anything.
Some see Rod Run as an opportunity for a farewell-to-summer party, cheering the cruisers on with red plastic cups in hand. But the people who have invested tens of thousands of dollars in their lovingly restored rides tend to take the event much more seriously. From Friday evening until Sunday afternoon, they stand at attention by their Bel-Airs and Mustangs and Darts and Model-Ts, with chamois cloths in hand, ready to spit-shine at a moment’s notice.
We will be raffling another amazing engine. Did you know the Raffle Engine is custom built in our shop, and that no two engines are exactly the same? This is especially true for this years 40th Anniversary Engine!
Each year we start with a GM Performance Series 4 bolt main 350 cubic inch engine block. The block is hot tanked and examined for worthiness, then sent out for machine work. This year we went all out and built a 383 cubic inch “stroker” motor putting out over 500 horse power, on pump gas!
Internally, all components, bolts, bearings, pistons, rings, rods, camshaft, lifters, push-rods, etc., are brand new. This engine is set for 10.5:1 compression ratio and with Scatt pistons and crankshaft, Competition Products 64cc chambered aluminum heads, fully rollerized, and balanced. Nice and dependable for your street rod.
Our engine parts supplier is Competition Products so we are able to assemble these engines with a wide variety of performance parts like Howards, Comp, Isky Cam & Lifter kits, Eagle, Scat, KB lower end assemblies, Edelbrock, Holley, Brawler carburetors, Speedmaster, TSP, Weiand manifolds, all top of the line components.
Furthermore, with each engine you get the complete build sheet listing every component inside the engine and pictures of the assembly. We use Driven Racing Oil for the break-in and supply a case of Driven HR 2 Racing oil for your first oil change, and we recommend continuing with Driver Oil Products.

The first few years, the event was held in the ball field across from the Ocean Park School. Later, to incorporate the growing number of spectators and participants; the show was held at the old Klipsan airport on the retired grass airstrip. In 1991 over 700 cars were shown.
Once again, the Beach Barons™ were faced with finding yet another location when the owners of the airport indicated they would rather not use the land for the Rod Run. In 1993 the event was held for the first time on property leased by the Beach Barons™, and the event swelled from 1140 cars in 1992, to 1200 classic cars and thousands of spectators coming to the Peninsula. The Rod Run to the End of the World was the World™ now recognized throughout the Northwest, and in 1994 the event drew over 1300 entries and 6,000 to 8,000 spectators.
During this era, the cities of Ilwaco and Long Beach held street dances to help entertain the growing crowds. There was also a 20-mile long cruise, the length of the Peninsula where spectators could enjoy the great cars. After seven years of successful shows at their leased property, the club moved the event to its newly acquired property on Sandridge Road that was purchased from the Wilson family. The first show at the new Wilson field location was held in 2000.
On October 27, 2001, The Beach Barons™ gathered at the clubhouse and enjoyed a party to celebrate the burning of the mortgage papers for a payoff of the twentyseven acres. Much dedicated participation, hard work, and a tremendous amount of team effort went into acquiring and preparing the land for future shows.
The Rod Run is now a successful event created for every classic car enthusiast regardless of age. The Beach Barons™ take a lot of pride in the planning and presentation of a show which offers tourists a well-orchestrated and exciting event, one they will look forward to coming back and enjoying each year. In turn, the car club gives an enormous amount of support and recognition in the area, while promoting tourism on the Peninsula and neighboring cities. The Rod Run is a family favorite and is noted for its emphasis on safety, entertainment, community spirit, and plenty of activities for everyone.

Crossing the finish line together
The Slow Drag competition on the Ilwaco waterfront has become a hugely popular start to the weekend of car-related festivities headlined by the great Rod Run to the End of the World in Ocean Park.
Sponsored by the Ilwaco Merchant’s Association, this year’s event on Friday, Sept. 6, is the 22nd in the series.
Classic cars, hot rods and rat rods are all welcome, so long as they are visually interesting, nonpolitical and family-friendly. They must be street legal with working brake lights.
Racing starts on Howerton Way at the Port of Ilwaco at 5 p.m. Vehicle owners must check in between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., with practice between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Any participant not checked in by 3 p.m. forfeits their entry and fee; no exceptions. No same-day entries.
To race, two cars line up, accelerate to 20 mph then shift to neutral. The one which coasts best to the finish line — a fire hose filled with sand — advances to the next round; those placing second are eliminated after two losses.
Capacity is limited. The entry fee is $30. Checks, payable to IMA, may be mailed to the merchants at P.O. Box 193, Ilwaco WA 98624.
All participants must be 18 or older with auto insurance; vehicles must be street-legal with working brake lights.
