ERAU Men’s Soccer (2011-14)
SEASON
Former Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Nils Carlson is the goalkeeping coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs. A four-year starter for the Eagles, Carlson helped the Blue and Gold to conference regular season titles in 2011 and 2013, and an NAIA National Championship appearance in 2013. Originally from Vastra, Sweden, Carlson closed out his ERAU career as one of the Eagles’ top five goalkeepers of all time in four categories, including shutouts (1st, 25), minutes played (2nd, 6,461), saves (3rd, 302) and goals against average (5th, 1.11). Carlson was a two-time first team All-Sun Conference selection and was tabbed as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and an honorable mention NAIA All-American in 2011. He was named to the Academic All-Conference roster and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in 2014.

Student-Athlete (2003-06)
Head Coach Samantha Baggett Bohon announced Liam McIlhatton as an Embry-Riddle women’s soccer assistant coach in the spring of 2010. McIlhatton played four seasons with the men’s team from 2003-06. McIlhatton’s impact on the men’s lineup was immediate as he earned a spot in the first 11 as a freshman and kept his job as a starting defensive midfielder throughout his career. He played in every match in his first three seasons with the Blue and Gold and was on his way to doing the same as a senior, but was sidelined by a season-ending injury. The Scotland native helped the Eagles to four conference regular season and four regional tournament titles and totaled 28 points on eight goals and 12 assists in 67 career appearances. He received All-Conference recognition twice and was named to the All-Region and honorable mention All-America rosters as a junior. After leaving Embry-Riddle, McIlhatton played semi-pro soccer for St. Anthony’s FC in Scotland. He then went on to combine his knowledge of the sport and his experience playing in the United States as a Senior International Sports Consultant for Firstpoint USA. In addition to his responsibilities with the ERAU women’s team, McIlhatton was a girls’ coach with the Ormond Beach Soccer Club from 2010-13 and was a member of the coaching staff for West Ham United International Academy in Palm Coast from 2011-13. He has been involved with the local PDA since 2013. McIlhatton completed his undergraduate degree in Communications in 2007 and his Master of Science in Aeronautics in 2013. He earned his National Diploma from the NSCAA in January 2013 and completed his Advanced National Diploma in January 2014.

David GREGSON 240-138-30 CAREER RECORD
In 1994, the Embry-Riddle athletic administration made the decision to turn its ailing soccer program around. A nationwide search produced England native, David Gregson, a young coach looking for his first head coaching opportunity. As a young man growing up in England and through his collegiate years as a student-athlete, Gregson enjoyed a fair amount of success in the game of soccer. He has since translated his success as a player into success in the coaching realm as he has become one of the most respected soccer coaches in the country. Gregson garnered one of the highest coaching honors in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in 2011-12 when he was selected as the NAIA Coach of Character Award Winner. In 2003, Gregson celebrated his 10th anniversary as a head coach by achieving his 100th career victory and guided the Eagles to the EMBRY-RIDDLE SCRANTON HARTWICK national tournament quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The Eagles ended the 2003 season ranked No. 8 nationally and set Head Coach Assistant Coach Student-Athlete program single-season marks for overall wins (18), overall winning percentage (.880) and conference winning percentage (.950). In addition, (1994-Present) (1991-94) (1987-91) the 2003 team was the recipient of the inaugural Nels Dahlquist Memorial Sportsmanship Award for displaying the best sportsmanship at the national tournament. Prior to Gregson’s arrival at Embry-Riddle, the men’s soccer program enjoyed only one winning season in five years. Under Gregson’s watchful eye, the Eagles have gone 240-138-30 overall. ERAU garnered eight Sun Conference regular season titles, three conference tournament titles, five - 240-138-30 (.625) Career Record NAIA Region XIV championships and made nine NAIA national tournament appearances. After playing for Lancashire and England Schoolboys at the U-19 level, Gregson came to the United States to continue his soccer career in 1987 and accepted a full scholarship to perennial NCAA Division I power, Hartwick College. John Haworth returned to the Embry-Riddle men’s soccer coaching staff in the summer of 2008 after spending four seasons as the head coach at ERAU’s Sun Conference foe Webber International. In his four seasons at the helm of the Webber International program, Haworth guided the Warriors to two top three finishes in the FSC and a Final Four appearance at the NAIA National Tournament in 2006. Named the league’s Coach of the Year in 2007, Haworth’s record as a head coach stands at 40-30-1, including a program best 14-5 mark in 2006. Haworth began his playing career at Embry-Riddle in 1997, when he joined the squad as a goalkeeper. During his freshman year he started in 16 games as the Eagles’ net minder and allowed only 28 goals on the season. His 1.82 goals against average that season ranked him second on the Eagles’ single season list in that category. John’s prowess between the posts was not the only asset to the team, however, as he was asked to make the transition from guarding the nets to joining the attack. In his debut as a forward, he scored a hat trick against Covenant College, thus solidifying his spot on the roster as a field player. His sophomore campaign was a success, but remainder of his career was blighted by a series of injuries. Haworth was forced to sit out the 1999 season to recover from a knee injury and was still plagued by that injury the following year. His senior campaign looked promising as he returned fitter and more determined than ever. But his hopes were dashed when, in his first appearance of the season, he sustained a broken leg, which sidelined him for the remainder of the year. While his playing time was limited, Haworth’s dedication to the program and support of his teammates never waned. It is this enthusiasm that makes him an asset to the coaching staff. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the inner workings of the program to the table as well as a strong rapport with squad members. Haworth earned his Premiere License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2016 and is also an NSCAA Associate Staff Coach. He graduated from Embry-Riddle in Spring 2002 with a degree in Communications and a minor in Business, and completed his master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management at Webber International in 2004. Haworth and wife Amy reside in Ormond Beach, Fla. with newborn daughter Lyla.

Former Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Nils Carlson will be serving as the goalkeeping coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs in 2015. Carlson played four years for the ERAU men’s soccer team and was the Eagles’ starting goalkeeper in each of his four seasons wearing the Blue and Gold. He helped the Eagles to conference regular season titles in 2011 and 2013, and an NAIA National Championship appearance in 2013. Carlson was recognized for his accomplishments both on and off the field. A two-time first team All-Sun Conference selection, he was tabbed as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman and garnered honorable mention All-America honors that same year. As a senior, he was named to the Academic All-Conference roster and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.

Prior to Gallop’s arrival in Daytona Beach, the Embry-Riddle volleyball program had won just one conference championship, a tournament title in 1998, with no trips to the NAIA National Tournament. Since 2005, Gallop has led the Eagles to seven conference regular season titles, five conference tournament crowns and five trips to the NAIA National Tournament, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2011. During the Eagles’ time in the NAIA and Sun Conference, Gallop engineered a league dynasty, putting together five consecEMBRY-RIDDLE SAINT MARY’S SAN JOSE STATE utive undefeated seasons in conference play, including a 76-match winning streak that spanned six different seasons. Gallop’s Head Coach Asst. Coach Student-Athlete (97-00) teams won an unprecedented 90% of conference games (120-13) from 2005-14, losing just twice over the final seven seasons in The Sun Conference. Embry-Riddle enjoyed NAIA top-25 rankings in 51 weeks from 2010-14. Prior to Gallop, no ERAU volleyball (2005-Present) (2003-04) Asst. Coach (01-02) team had ever been ranked. Under Gallop’s guidance, a number of Embry-Riddle student-athletes have garnered individual recognition, including 41 All-Conference selections, seven All-America honorees and eight honorable mention All-Americans. Her protégé accolades include NAIA - 256-112 (.696) Career Record All-Americans Abby Hall (2010, and 2011), Jordan Holcomb (2012), Tamires Ferreira (2014), Adriana Vazquez (2011 and 2012) and - 120-13 (.902) Conference Record Taylor Martin (2012). She was an integral part of bringing Gaels volleyball to national - 8 NAIA Honorable Mention All-Americans prominence as they were ranked No. 13 in the final USA Today/College Sports Television Top 25 Coaches Poll with a 25-4 overall, which included - 5 Sun Conference Players of the Year defeating 2004 NCAA National Champion Stanford twice and advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. In 2003, St. Mary’s finished with a 20-13 - 8 Sun Conference Setters of the Year record and advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament. - 6 Sun Conference Liberos of the Year Prior to her work with the St. Mary’s program, Gallop assisted head coach Craig Choate from 2001-02 at her alma mater San Jose State after completing her playing career in 2000. john PHILLIPS DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
John Phillips was named Embry-Riddle’s Director of Athletics in January 2014 after serving as the Eagles’ Associate Athletics Director for seven years. Born and raised in Kensington, Maryland, Phillips came to Daytona Beach in 1989, enrolling as a student at Embry-Riddle. Phillips played baseball for the Eagles for three seasons, while completing both his undergraduate (B.S., 1990) and graduate degrees (M.S., 1992). Phillips returned to the University as the program’s first-ever Director of Sports Marketing and Promotions in August 1997, and was subsequently named Assistant Director of Athletics in 1998. In 2007, he was named Associate Director of Athletics, supervising the day-to-day operations of the athletic department, including facilities, game management, sports information, sports medicine and sports marketing for the Daytona Beach campus. During his tenure at Embry-Riddle, Phillips has served as the tournament director for all nine NAIA national championships that Embry-Riddle has hosted, including five for golf and four national soccer tournaments. In 2008, the NAIA honored him with the Charles Morris Award as the NAIA’s National Athletic Administrator of the Year. In addition, he was honored by The Sun Conference as the league’s Athletic Director of the Year in 2014-15. In 2010, Phillips was named to the Board of Directors for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), becoming just the second administrator from an NAIA institution to be named to this board. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for NACMA, he is also a past chair of the NAIA-NACMA Advisory Board, a panel of NAIA administrators that provided leadership and professional development opportunities in sports marketing to other NAIA institutions. Internally, Phillips has served the University in numerous other capacities during his 19-years on staff, including Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Reaccreditation Audit Team, ERAU’s Women’s Initiative Committee, ERAU’s Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and the Embry-Riddle Alumni Advisory Council. Locally, Phillips currently serves as the Chair of the Daytona Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Sports Advisory Committee. This committee is charged with providing guidance and marketing expertise in attracting regional, national and international sporting events to the Daytona Beach community. In 2015, he was nominated to serve on the Halifax Area Advertising Authority (HAAA) Board of Directors. HAAA is charged with promoting tourism offerings within the greater Daytona Beach area, from Ponce Inlet to Ormond By The Sea. During his tenure at Embry-Riddle, the sports marketing and promotions staff has earned 24 NACMA “Best of” awards, including gold medals for things such as “sponsorship activation,” “best student promotion” and “best targeted group promotion.” He has been a featured speaker on topics related to sports marketing at the NAIA convention on seven different occasions, at the CoSIDA Convention in 2011 and 2012, and at the NACMA Convention on eight separate occasions since 2008. He has presented on topics such as “Big Time Promotions on a Small-Time Budget,” Social Networking and the “Brand of You.” The sports information staff at Embry-Riddle has also garnered national attention during his tenure, capturing over 60 CoSIDA awards for Excellence in Publications. ERAU Sports Information was also honored on seven occasions with the NAIA’s Gary Spitler Award for the best overall sports publications in the NAIA. Phillips has also served as the voice of Embry-Riddle basketball for the last 19 seasons and has also done broadcast work for the Eagles baseball team since 1999. In addition to his broadcast work for ERAU, he has worked as the public address announcer for both the Daytona Cubs and DeLand High School football. In his current role with WNDB (1150-AM & 93.5-FM), he anchors WNDB’s motorsports coverage for events such as the Rolex 24, the Daytona 500 and the Coke Zero 400. He has also served as the play-by-play announcer for high school football and basketball, working for WSBB (New Smyrna Beach), WNDA (DeLand) and WELE (Ormond Beach). SONJA
TAYLOR
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR STUDENT-ATHLETE SUPPORT SERVICES/SWA The Embry-Riddle Athletics Administration announced the appointment of Sonja Taylor to the position of Executive Director of Student-Athlete Support Services in January 2014. Taylor, a 30-year veteran of the University, was also designated the Senior Woman Administrator. In her role with Athletics, Taylor is a member of the senior leadership team, focusing primarily on support services and programs for student-athletes, including academic excellence, personal and career development and overall well-being. She also provides sport supervision for several of ERAU’s female athletics teams and coaches. Before joining the Athletics Department, Taylor served in a variety of roles within the University’s Division of Student Affairs. She began her career at Embry-Riddle as ERAU’s Residence Life Coordinator in 1984 and two years later, she became the Director of Housing. During her tenure as the Director of Housing, she provided administrative leadership in the planning and construction of the Student Village in 1997, which increased the number of on-campus residents from 900 to 1,900. In 2002, Taylor was named the Associate Dean of Students, providing oversight to Housing and Residence Life, Health Services, and Counseling and Orientation, while serving as the functional Director of Housing. Three years later, Taylor was named the Dean of Students, a position she held until she was named the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs in January of 2013. As a leader on Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus, Taylor has served as the Chair for a number of committees, including Diversity and Inclusion, University Tobacco-Free Communication & Transition, the Embry-Riddle Annual Fund and Judicial Process Review, which resulted in the creation of the University’s Honor Code and Honor Board. Taylor has also served as Off-Site Committee Member for the Commission on Colleges’ Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and has been a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the Association of Student Conduct Administrators. Her successes at Embry-Riddle have led to her being asked to be the presenter at several conferences, including the Association of College and University Housing Officers Conference and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Taylor has been an avid supporter of sports in general and the Eagles’ Athletics program in particular. She has attended numerous games as a season ticket holder and her interaction with the Eagle coaches and student-athletes has resulted in her being asked to be an honorary coach at home contests, in addition to being a guest speaker at the 2012 ERAU Student-Athlete Convocation.
