The 2015 Interior Architecture and Design Graduation Project challenges the notion of existing building structures which operate on a large scale. Infrastructures such as a listed ruin, disused sea forts, a train viaduct and other derelict buildings are now revitalised through a consistent process of spatial experimentation. The results of the Project reveal an array of design proposals and encompass a variety of solutions for different users: from trainee pilots to street performers, and from the fashionistas to the decease. The intention throughout the process has been to discover, emphasise and expose the intimate idiosyncrasies of each location in order to create unique experiences and narratives within the locational contexts.

On Wheel; Bicycle Club On Wheels; Bicycle Club is a social hotspot and meeting point for cyclists. Urban park and open spaces could draw people in the city to come together and interact. Home Farm Winery Home Farm Winery is a response to the increasing demand for British sparkling wines. Winery is designed to bring visitors on a journey, reflecting the process of the production of Hertfordshire’s new English sparkling wine. The buildings are designed to integrate into the landscape using a combination of traditional and modern materials which are both natural and sustainable whilst at the same time reflecting a fresh approach to an established industry. Sarah Donnellan Interior Architecture & Design

Broomfield House: A Glimpse into the Past Broomfield House, located in Palmers Green, North London, was badly damaged in a fire in 1984. The design proposal centres on the regeneration of Broomfield House as a Heritage Centre with links to the historical heritage of the house. A re-connection with the past is created by defining the proposed layout in terms of the historic adaptation of the house and the ‘memory’ of the decayed fabric.

The aim would be to encourage pilots who see the world from a different perspective than that from being on the ground to feel a sense of inspiration that comes from freedom and nature.

Escape Paradise Adaptive Reuse: Preserving Unusual Structures

The Redsand Forts are an iconic site located South-East of the UK. An excellent example of how the adaptive reuse concept can be applied to conserve important buildings. Their unique shape has been a great inspiration in designing a new architectural attraction that will breathe life back into the abandoned spaces.

Silkworm Cocoon Studios Hackney is one of the richest regions in London where the textile factories were their famous factor on developing and providing commercial retails internationally in the 1800s. The railway arches will be converted into a costume design venue where you can find all the facilities. The silkworm cocoon is the perfect narrative that represents the similar design development/ transformation process within each arch just like the transformation of caterpillar to cocoon and the butterfly representing the finished new product. Hilal Sak Interior Architecture & Design

Connection is life; disconnection, death. What is death? Death is when one person totally lost connection with another person whether it is a physical connection or a mental connection. To me, as long as the person lives in our heart, they are not dead. It is just the way we are connected has change. Therefore, death is not an end; death is another beginning of how people are connected. Crematorium is a place where people celebrates the end of a human life, it should not be depressive, it should be a place to heal people’s heart. The end of a human’s life is not the end of the connection between humans. Sy Yong Interior Architecture & Design

Our students study in a diverse, multi-cultural and creative environment. They learn to transform different types of buildings with new functions. Through design, they improve the quality of people’s lives by giving them a better place to live, work and play. Students work with our contacts in industry on live projects, such as, Hong Kong Harbour Plaza Metropolis Hotel, Rugby Football Union with real budgets, real sites, and to be built and enjoyed by the public. Students also meet big names such as, Will Alsop and Peter Cook, and network with our partners in the Hertfordshire Association of Architects. We also enjoy visiting our friends around the world, in such places as, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and New York and look at beautiful architecture and design. International collaboration projects, studio visits, student exchange are part of the action-packed experience of the course.
