Enrollment at Gannon in Fall 2009 is 4,238 students, the highest in 17 years. Personal attention for each student is provided with a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1. Gannon offers nearly 100 academic programs in the health professions, engineering, business, education, social sciences and the humanities. Gannon’s signature health professions include physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, nursing, radiologic sciences, respiratory care, and sport and exercise science.

Students enrolled in the health professions for the 2009-10 Academic Year are some of the first to experience a new, state-of-the-art Patient Simulation Center in the new Robert H. Morosky Academic Center. The simulation center will allow students of different disciplines to work collaboratively in a hospital-like setting where they will have a real-world experience before they graduate.

From international business and foreign language courses, to study abroad opportunities and service trips, Gannon students are exposed to numerous possibilities. Gannon’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) assists an average of 700 local business owners each year. For the past 28 years, the SBDC has helped more than 20,000 entrepreneurs establish and grow their businesses.

Additionally, the new Erie Technology Incubator (ETI) at Gannon is expected to create 300 jobs during its first five years of operation, and it offers unique internship opportunities for Gannon students.

Almost a third of Gannon students are enrolled in one of the University’s 20 graduate programs, which include a new Ph.D. in Organizational Learning and Leadership, the first and only program of its kind in the region. In addition, Gannon offers a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy and masters in Physician Assistant and Occupational Therapy, distinguishing Gannon’s superior programs in the Health Professions.

A nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, the Regional Center for Workforce Excellence’s mission is to connect people with jobs through collaborative workforce development efforts and strong partnerships with economic development, business, education and government sectors in Northwest Pennsylvania. The organization cooperates with state officials in providing regional employers with vital labor market data, creating delivery systems that address student and worker needs, and coordinating the recruiting and training efforts of regional employers.

As a partner of the Regional Workforce Development Network, the RCWE is dedicated to joining economic development, workforce investment and education providers to serve employer’s new and incumbent workers’ employment and training needs. The Regional Workforce Development Network includes 14 counties, 11 industry sector partnerships (representing over 180 employers), a K-12 education partnership, regional and county-level teams, the youth service system, welfare programs and innovation zones.

The RCWE serves as both the staff support and fiscal agent of the Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board (NWPA WIB). The NWPA WIB acts as both the planning council for the northwest Pennsylvania region on areas of workforce development and as the Board of Directors for the Regional Center for Workforce Excellence (RCWE). The purpose of the Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board is to focus on strategic planning, policy development, oversight of the system and establishment of priorities for all workforce development funds.

The NWPA WIB is a membership consortium made up of business executives, community leaders and elected officials appointed by the Board of Commissioners and Chief Local Elected Officials (CLEO’s) who together with the staff of the Regional Center for Workforce Excellence continually serve a multi-regional workforce investment area which includes Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Venango and Warren counties.
