Regional Training Conferences Every year the New Jersey district of Key Club organizes RTC’s (Regional Training Conferences) in the spring and the fall. RTC’s are a great opportunity to meet new people from within your region, attend informative workshops on various topics about all things Key Club, and to participate in fun-filled

icebreakers. This year’s theme for the RTC’s is “ Experiment with Service”. If you could not attend Regional Training Conferences this year, don’t fret! We will be having RTCs again in the fall. Get ready! So mark your calendars, tell your friends, and get as excited as an electron

District Convention

Daina Zhou from Tenafly

“If there was one thing I took home from this convention it was that I would do anything to come again.”

DCON, 2013. A hotel packed all too tightly with too many high schoolers, but without a whiff of angst in the air. To me, it was more than an eye opening experience; it was a journey that helped me find a part of my identity. DCON showed me there was a bigger picture to it all, and it wasn’t just someone telling me that. So in the end, what was great about it? We as key clubbers were experiencing exactly what it was we wanted- to be mature,

composed and helpful teenagers going through a fun bonding experience together. We learned from each other, communicated ideas and created friendships that would last forever. DCON was a great experience, packing into one (super tiring) day meetings, workshops, sessions, meals and dances. There was so much to be done and I enjoyed every minute of it; however, my only critique is that the workshops were short and to be frank,

less professional and/or beneficial for the GMs than I had hoped for. If there was one thing I took home from this convention it was that I would do anything to come again.

General Member Spotlight - Daina Zhou Daina Zhou, or as she (and maybe 3 other people) calls herself, Captain General Member, has been an ardent general member of key club for the last 2 years. Daina is constantly made fun of because of her height (or lack thereof) and her “childish” interests. However, when it comes down to buckling down and doing work she doesn’t tolerate mediocre service work. She’s Page 2

bossed people around chaired several events and thoroughly enjoyed doing so, as when events end up running smoothly because other people help her other people’s hard work is always worth it. Daina plans on being the very best key clubber there ever was, but that probably won’t happen because she’s not tall enough for respect.

Meet the Presidents - Hayley Austin My name is Hayley Austin, and I am currently copresident of the Tenafly Key Club. Well, my favorite subjects are math and physics, I play flute in our school’s honors band, and in my free time I like cosplaying and reading manga. I love Key Club because of

its members. I am always amazed by the outstanding work we can do when we put in a bit of effort and when we work together to achieve a common goal. I think that the service we can provide is the most important thing we can of-

fer as Key Clubbers. I also hope to strengthen our division and meet the members and officers of other division sixteen clubs. Finally, I hope to inspire others and to act as a mentor as members learn what Key Club means to them.

Meet the Presidents - Marisa Wong Hi! My name is Marisa Wong. I’ve been in Key Club ever since my freshman year. I served as secretary, and am now the Co-President of Tenafly Key Club. One major goal I have for this year is to focus on ser-

vice. Tenafly Key Club does an amazing job at fundraising, but I’d like to plan more service projects around our school and community. Additionally, I’d like to be able to retain membership— want to reach out to

more members and get a sense of who they are and what kinds of projects they’d be interested in. I’m really happy to be working with such motivated officers and members. I look forward to an amazing service year!

Meet the Presidents - Denisse Peralta This story can fit 100-150 words. Hey, my name is Denisse Peralta andmatter I'm the The subject that Presiappears in newsletters is virtually dent for North Bergenendless. You can include stories that High School. focus on current technologies or

members! That is one of my many goals this year: to have the most active members for upcoming years be recognized. I want my general members to be more involved with the division. The highest goal I have is to create one

Builders Club this service year. The many qualities I bring to Key Club consist of honesty, trust, responsibility, and caring. I hope to work with other leaders to accomplish all our goals!

DIVISION 16 OF THE NEW JERSEY DISTRICT

QuirKEY Name Hi Everyone! Some of you may recognize the name of this newsletter, the “QuirKEY” and that is because it was the newsletter name of my previous Lieutenant Governor Christina. Christina was a great Lieutenant Governor, mentor and friend. Her “QuirKEY” nature inspired others to lead and she gave off a comfortable aura. She received a Robert. F. Lucas Distinguished Lieutenant Governor award at DCON and

she deserved it. I have learned a lot of things about Key Club and Christina even encouraged me to run for Lieutenant Governor. As such, I want to continue the QuirKEY name in honor of one of the best Lieutenant Governors that Division 16 has had.
