What’s been going on?

Hey Guys!

I wanted to include this section in a separate portion from the greeting, basically I’m going to explain what’s been going on so far. This past weekend, myself and LTG elect Jae went to Midwinter Training Conference and the last board meeting where Jae was trained to become a LTG like myself, and I participated in the final board meeting of my term. This service year ends at District CONvention and so that is all that is left to prepare for. There are few future events such as ICON that you may be interested in and I have included a few articles about events that you may be interested in doing as you wrap up this year or want to save to jump right into for next year! This is not my last newsletter though so I’ll have more issues coming!

Reminder: We are Thailand! (For DCON) Key Club International truly is an international organization, with branches in over 30 nations across the globe! This year’s annual District Convention theme is “Destination: Service.” As such, each division has been assigned a country to represent them at the convention. This will be the identifier for where to sit during convention and such. Division 16 has received the country of Thailand!

March of Dimes LTG Eric Zhu March of Dimes is an organization that works to raise money and awareness about the thousands of premature births that happen every year. The March of Dimes Walk is a simple project conducted by the organization where all that is required of members is the will to move along a path with both friends and strangers. The March of Dimes has supported causes ranging from the fight against polio to most recently to defend babies and mothers.The program was established by Franklin D Roosevelt over fifty years ago but continues to raise awareness and funds for its goals. The money they raise goes directly into research that could help protect babies and mothers everywhere. This year our district intends to raise $8,100. The 1 and 8 represent the 1 in 8 babies that are born premature.

Join the March! They typically take place during the spring and there probably is a march near you. If you manage to get at least 18% of your club to attend, you win an award at DCON! The march is more fun with friends so bring your friends; bring your family but most of all bring your spirit!

Children’s Miracle Network LTG Hannah Hickman Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is one of Key Club's preferred charities. CMN is an non-profit organization that works around the world to raise funds for children's hospitals, medical research, and community awareness. They have given over $4 billion to over 170 hospitals.

Key Club helps these hospitals by volunteering to cheer up patients and raise money through fundraisers. The hospital that the New Jersey District focuses on is Children's Specialized Hospital, that has locations in Tom's River, Egg Harbor Township, Clifton, Fanwood, Hamilton, Mountainside, New Brunswick, and Roselle Park.

This year, our service goal for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is 1,704 hours of service in these hospitals. The 4 represents the $4 billion donated. The 170 represents the 170 hospitals that are a part of the network.

Excited for DCON but don’t know what to expect? Here’s a sneak peek.

DCON: Friday LTG Eric Zhu DCON has rolled around once again! So it’s time to suit up, put on that blazer, and get ready for that opening night dance. This year the dance will be titled “Le Club Bleu”; be sure to bring blue to support The Eliminate Project. The opening night dance is always the liveliest so make sure to pack that favorite blue shirt and get ready to dance the night away!

But let’s be honest, you came to DCON to help make your Key Club bigger and better than ever (you want to win that Single Service Award or perhaps snag that spirit stick) if that’s the case make sure to stop by the service fair. Service organizations from all around the world have to come to bring you fresh ideas, and several NJ Key Clubs have come to spread their own successes. This is the place to go if you’re looking to go to ICON or find ways to work with our preferred charities. YUDA bands will be selling their signature product YUDA bands and (this is brand new) Operation Cupcakes will be selling cupcakes. Hurry though; the service fair is only open until dinner time at 5pm!

Friday night also marks the beginning of campaigning for those running for district office, and the due date for all contests materials. Lastly,make sure to arrive between the times of 1-5pm with all the signed forms, Key Clubbers, and their chaperones ready for the best weekend of the year!

Key Club Advice Tenafly High School Key Club President: Hayley Austin Advice to new key clubbers: Don't hold back, or you are only hurting yourself. Key Club is a place where everyone and everything should be accepted, so don't worry about being cool or trying to fit in. Take Key Club as an opportunity to find yourself through service.

District Convention I started my first newsletter with a recap of District Convention and it seems that it has come full circle with District Convention approaching soon. I urge all clubs to attend this event. I have already sent out the packets with the corresponding information of how to register along with links of promotional Facebook Coverphotos and Profile Pictures. Utilize these resources as you please. Here is a quick list of things about things that you can do before the actual District Convention: There are several contests to enter for including: A Talent show, Oratorical and Impromptu Essay contest so you can start considering these options.
