WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) Tangent Surfaces, cones and cylinders. Tangent surfaces has discrete model and developed surface based on polygon. Cylinders are basic and formed by parallel lines. Cones has one sole vertext which has many points.

Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) It is important to recognize the importance of developable surfaces because in the acutal world we need to be able to create the shape that can be built. If you ignore that fact, we will face a hard time drawing 3D panels. Plasma Studio’s Greenhosue design consists of small triangles joined together to form a unique building.

Rectangular shaped alligned inorder are mostly 2D shapes and the rest are to be folded as 3D pattern.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) It is a computerized process which opens up new possibilities. It is mainly about visualization, genetive form finding, scripted modulation system, and structual and thermal analysis. Those process help the user develop more ideas while creating using computer.

Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) It helps designers to create a 3D surface from a 2D. It is cheap and not much risk taken.

EXPLORING 3D PANELLING

May have had a hard time doing it but worth it when the result comes out like this.
