ET V Erin Verdi Interior Design Portfolio
Ideology I believe that great design is about stories. A beautiful space means nothing without the story behind it. The story of a design should be woven from the people that inhabit the space. I strive to tell a story, create meaningful interaction, and a little bit of comfort in each space that I design. Our environment should enhance our lives and that is what I plan to do for each person who visits a space I design.

MKDA designed a bright and whimsical new space for this boutique, Greenwich-based investment firm. This firm primarily invests in innovative start-ups from e-commerce companies to food and beverage and apparel brands. As a result, instead of devising a more traditional, corporate design concept, the team infused the space with color and fun patterns to create a dynamic work environment that is representative of the creative brands in their portfolio. Programing for employee wellbeing During the planning phase, we established a balanced program of private offices, open workstations, and collaboration areas. Focusing on the importance of employee wellbeing, the mix of private and public areas is crucial to maintaining healthy noise levels within the space while also mitigating distracting sounds.
C MKDA
Biophilic Design Promotes Employee Wellbeing We capitalized on biophilic design principles and the firm’s signature color, green, to further our emphasis on a mission-driven, human-centric environment. The team incorporated a feature moss wall in the shape and shade of the firm’s logo, which improves indoor air quality and absorbs ambient noise
A unique way in which we incorporated the company color of green was to use their color as the grout color in the pantry.
C MKDA
Geometric Patterns and Colors A selection of geometric patterned wallpapers were chosen for the phone and conference rooms to bring elements of fun and spontaneity to these areas. The firm’s color was also heavily featured throughout the workplace, using a number of green finishes to add pops of color and personality to the space.
C MKDA
Geometric patterned wallpapers were chosen for the conference rooms to bring elements of fun and spontaneity to the space. This pattern was achieved through the organization of felt triangles, adding both texture and acoustic value.

Kan the Green Turtle has traveled to Manila Bay to share what has happened to his home, the ocean. One day, the entire ocean was filled with plastic. The humans have started to greatly affect his home. Kan knew that this was something terrible and that he would need help. He swam to the shore, through all the plastic, and came across a group of people. He tells them the story of what his home used to be like and what it has become because of their actions. He reminds them of his way of life called bayanihan, where everyone comes together to work towards one goal. Kan is here in Manila Bay to invite everyone from different parts of the world to adopt the beautiful spirit of bayanihan. He invites everyone to come together to preserve the beauty of our ocean by creating a more sustainable world.

Design for MZ’s new headquarters in Chihuahua, Mexico. The culture of the area and local makers dictated the design of the space in order to celebrate the cultural heritage.
Workplace Design Client: MZ Location: Chihuahua, Mexico SQFT: ~7,000 Softwares: Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
MZ- Office Design MZ is a fair trade company currently located in Oaxaca, Mexico. For our studio project, we were prompted to create a new headquarters for MZ located in Chihuahua, Mexico that embraces the local culture and makers in the new region. I started by researching the original brand to learn how they currently work with local makers so I could bring that into my new space with new makers.
There are a lot of similarities between the current color story of MZ based in Oaxaca and the Tarahumara tribe based in Chihuahua. In order to adapt the brand to fit into the Tarahumara tribe and the local culture of Chihuahua, the current color story would need to be made more vibrant while staying with the original color families. The Tarahumara use a lot of natural and floral patterns as opposed to the current use of symbolic, geometric patterns in the MZ brand.
Concept:
Obscurity
The state of being unknown. How can MZ serve as a platform to support Tarahumara craft and tradition? How does light filter through a weave? Diffusion of light through the layering of shadows.
I completed behavior mapping to analyze how users would move through the space and how I would use visual filters in the space to incorporate my concept.

Pomegranate Pavilion Created in collaboration with Christine Jung. The pomegranate pavilion was designed to be implemented at the SCAD Hong Kong campus. The pavilion draws inspiration from a transformation found in nature that guided our design. We chose to study the life cycle of a pomegranate plant. The diagram included on the following page details the life cycle of a pomegranate in different seasons and levels of sunlight. You can see the transformation the plant takes from seed all the way to fruit. Using this diagram to create spacial studies, we reached a final pavilion design that would allow students to relax and catch up with each other after classes.
Model created with laser cut wood, spray paint, and clear acrylic.
Exploration of the life cycle of a pomegranate plant.
Midterm model to explore the interaction of forms to create new spaces.
Final pavilion design creates areas of socialization for students.
Latitude is a vibrant Thai-Mexican fusion restaurant located in Savannah, GA. Created to enhance social interaction over food, Latitude stays open late to serve the best fusion in town.
Restaurant Design Client: Nopalito and Night + Market Location: Savannah, GA SQFT: ~3,500 Softwares: Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, watercolor painting
Latitude | Restaurant Design Latitude Restaurant is located in Savannah, GA. Latitude is a celebration of food and friends. The menu features a fusion of Mexican food, inspired by Nopalito, and Thai food, inspired by Night + Market. It is said that countries that lay along a similar latitude line have cuisines that fuse together well. Latitude is a way for the cuisines of Mexico and Thailand to fuse together into a wonderful flavor and create a wonderful atmosphere.

Design Statement This pattern is based on my restaurant with a fusion of the dishes of a Thai and Mexican chef meant to celebrate the bridging and melding of cultures. Both cultures are very vibrant and lively and I wanted my graphics to embody the spirit of those cultures mixed with the ethos of my restaurant, sitting around a bond re with friends.
