What a Day
By: Brighton Solheim
Ooh eeh eew, the mud dripped off my shoes. Splitter splat! I jumped into the duckie (a tubic canoe. Alias inflatable.) I think it looked safe…what could happen? What could go wrong? I started off in the river. Branches stood up in the water. The birds were singing gently to me. Life was perfect. Suddenly, the boat lurched! It was grabbed by the tangle of branches. I thought to myself I am doomed! The river was pushing me into the branches. The fingered talons of twigs were surrounding me and hooking into the canoe. My family was pulled helplessly by leaving me by myself. They were yelling, “Keep on trying!” However, there faces were painted with fear. How reassuring. Tears began to run down my cheek, I told myself I couldn’t do it, I pushed the water back with my paddle. I didn’t move, I was far behind my family. I began to paddle again and I slowly began to lurch free. My heart began to sing. Splash, a guide jumped into the water and swam my way, a little grin began to show. He hopped in my canoe, it sunk dangerously low…Was this a good idea? He pushed me to shore. We got in my sisters canoe and went to the other side of the river. The guide said look over there. Fear flooded through my body a twisted rope hung from a tree. My brother and sister sprinted to but I just walked. My cochins was telling me you cant do it, but at the same time it was say oh sure go right ahead you can do it. While I was listening to my
cochins fight I watched my brother and sister as, they swung into the water. I was afraid I couldn’t hold on long enough, but finally I got enough guts. I clenched my hands on to the rope I took a step back and rose my feet up like a fire shooting from the dead. The breeze flowed through my hair I unlocked my hands from the rope. The water gradually drenched me. When I came up there was a huge … ear-to-ear grin on my face. I hiked up the jagged rocks and dirt more than enough times. Then, we went off into the boat and the canoes. We found another rope. Except this one was better well my opinion it was. This one hung from a tree and at the end of the rope was a stick that was tie to the end. At first we swung on it then we tried to jump out and grab the rope or stick if we grabbed it we would try to hold on and come back to the dirt ledge, which I could never do because I’m a weakling. Then we stopped for lunch and munched on yummy food. It was a feast, well not exacting but they had a bunch of fresh fruit, chips and salsa, and a bunch more foods that I love. Then, from there my brother, sister, and I swam behind the boat. In the beginning our mom kept telling us don’t get too close to the boat so we talk and played games but then we looked over and we were far behind. So I was like I don’t want to get to far behind so I went of to catch up to the boat. My brother and sister kept on playing and having fun while I was getting warn out. They finally were smart and started to catch up with the boat so 5 minutes later they came back. When they got back the guide told us to get back in the boat because the river was getting bigger, but she didn’t tell us that there had been crocodiles in the
river because like five minutes ago the river got bigger. When I get in the boat I look over and there’s a caiman then I look over on the same side five seconds later and there’s a green jagged pear shape in the water. “It’s a crocodile,” my mom yelled. The head is the size of the caiman. My blood stopped flowing, I couldn’t believe that just happened. I was just swimming with those. It might have been my heart that made it rain, but if it wasn’t, it started pouring. I had a heart stopping time, but it was one of the best days of my life. I did approach many of my fears, but with a little luck and my muscle bound tour guide everything turned out ok.
The Titan Attacks By Brighton
Falling From one side to the other, Fear runs through my body, A big mass of blue shooting out from the sea, I feel insignificant, Taking my last breath, I close my eyes, I begin to pray, Oh lord please don’t let this day be, My last day, But it is too late, The water takes me to a new world
Life is Misery Bye mom, see you at school. Bye dad, see you tomorrow. Love you Isabel. She ate breakfast and went to school. Isabel checked her watch and ran. She looked around and saw her friends, whew, she wiped her forehead. Isabel crossed the street then the bus arrive she got on. Isabel got to school and unpacked her stuff and remembers that she forgot her math so she asked her teacher to if she could call her mom she said sure sweetie. So she grabbed her phone and went outside the classroom. I’m sorry this person is currently not available. So she decided to call her dad I’m sorry this person is currently not available. She closed her phone and began to cry. My parents always answer the phone. Later they had their end of the year party and her mom didn’t show up. What happened to my mom? She thought to herself. Isabel sat in the corner the whole party crying. Her teacher came up to her and asked what was wrong. M-m-my mom didn’t answer her phone and she didn’t come to the party I don’t know where she is. Dling, dling the class phone rang it was the office. “Can Isabella Smith come down to the office please,” the teacher replied, ”Sure.” Isabel went do to the office and saw her grandma sitting there with tears tumbling down her cheek. Isabel dropped down to the ground and began to make a river. She didn’t know what happened put she still felt sorrow. She hoped in her car her face was pail and her grandmother stopped at her house and said, “Go change into something black.” She put on her favorite black dress from her mom and dad. When she got to the funeral she got enough guts to ask was it grandpa that died but, then she looked over and her grandpa was there full of tears. “Sweetie I am sorry you parents were on there way to work when a drunk women crashed into them and they went flying off the highway and your mother past away right away but, your father lasted until the hospital and past away.” One tiny tear ran down her face in her mind she thought no this can’t be true. That very next day she got taken to the orphanage.
“Hello my name is Bridget, you’re new right,” she said, “Yeah could you maybe, never mind,” “Oh yeah sure all be your friend,” “I am in room 102. What room are you in? ” 103,” “Hey that is close to me, right next door.” Bridget asked, “So would you like me to give you a tour of the campus, “Ok,” “Oh, wait but first I need to give you your schedule for when you go to lunch, when you can go to the bathroom, and get ready in the morning” “ Thanks” Isabel said. She began to look at her schedule her smile got washed of her face, “What is wrong?” “I am last at everything I do and I am only with boys.” Every day everything she did every day she was with a group of boys and nobody noticed her. Life was misery. Every day she would pray “Oh Lord, please help me through this time please can my parents come back home.” Every day she would pray the same thing. One day something magical happened. A muffled sound came from the speaker, “ Excuse me will Isabella Smith please come down stairs for adoption. She screamed with joy! Yes I finally get to get out of here.
NO MAYA!!! Maya’s mom always told her not to pick her nose but she did her mom said, “NO MAYA!” Maya always left the house with no underwear and her mom said, ”NO MAYA NO!” With no doubt Maya was sassy she waved her hand up in the air and said, “You do not talk to me like that.” Her mom became furious, she yelled and screamed,” NO MAYA YOU DO NOT TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!” At the end of the day her mom loved her anyways. No matter what she did her mom forgave her.

By: Brighton Solheim Everyone screaming my name! Lifting up my arm to shoot, the smell of sweat running through my body. I want to take a break, but I can’t. Everyone is counting on me. My heart is beating like the flapping of humming bird’s wings. I focus on the rim while the crowed slowly becomes blocked out. My feet are in pain, they twitch as I come to a jump. My hands burn from grabbing the rim. The crowd slowly starts to come back and I hear fresh lemonade get your fresh lemonade $1.00. All I can think is of that lemonade running down my throat. 30 seconds on the clock. I sprint to the other end of the gymnasium I shoot a three pointer it goes in beeeep. We win 33 to 36 everyone lifts me up and yells jersey 10, jersey 10, jersey 10, yaaaah.
