Thank you to everyone who played in the Team Match Play Congratulations to all our winners Hopefully, Mother Nature will settle down for the Spring, and we will have more consistent temperatures to enjoy golf with It has been an up-and-down couple of months, but our Maintenance team has done a great job managing what they can control to give us the best conditions April continues to be a busy month at the Club with Easter Brunch, one-day Member Guest, the first couples' event of the year, and many other activities
Also, a quick reminder that starting this month, if you choose to pay by credit card for your statement or any transactions at the Club, a 3% convenience fee applies. The Club does not collect this fee - it is paid directly to our third-party credit card processor.

I am positive that the weather over the past 75 days has been brutal regarding plant and turf health The continuous cold would not have been bad; however, the combination of extreme cold followed by extremely warm/hot is unsuitable for our grasses The third time this happened, our carbohydrate reserves were meager Add 20-plus straight days with no sunshine, and plants have limited energy to recover As a result, areas of some putting greens thinned out The most impacted areas were around the edges and lower areas prone to compaction and excessive moisture Nothing good happens fast with turf; only bad happens fast We need warm temperatures and lots of sunshine to provide the energy that drives the plants
Update on Bunker Sand
We have 100 tons of California White bunker sand on order, and the manufacturer has not given us an anticipated delivery date California white sand is the sand we use in our Member Course bunkers, and we will place it in the highest-priority bunkers as soon as it arrives We also have 100 tons of Arkansas White bunker sand on order, used in our Tournament Course bunkers We expect partial delivery of this product before the delivery from California

Golf Course Maintenance needs your help!
Traffic control due to 4 golf carts for 4 or 5 players is taking a toll on areas where access to turf is limited Dormant turf does not heal during months from October through April Please look for healthy turf before leaving the cart path Ball marks do not heal unless repaired immediately Please promptly locate and repair ball marks to keep the putting surfaces from looking like a “ war zone ”

Alex Sierra
Welcome Alex Sierra!
Alex is a native of Colombia who was raised in New York and Texas. Alex attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Upon graduation in 2008, she joined the Fellowship program at the Culinary Institute of America getting certified as Sommelier II, Mixologist, Executive Chef and trained in specific cuisines such as Southeast Asia, India, and the Mediterranean.
Alex began her career as the Maitre’d and Executive Catering Chef at Troutbeck Inn in New York and was then given the opportunity to work at the Equinox Golf Resort & Spa in Vermont. Followed by an apprentice at the London Hotel, Per Se and Le Bernadin in NYC, NY. Alex has been in the Private Club business for the last 20 years creating extraordinary moments for member through, wine dinners, cooking classes, chef’s tables and more.
Recently she held the role as Food & Beverage Director at Shadow Hawk and joined Golf Club of Houston in March of 2023. If you have not had the chance to meet Alex, please be sure to stop by and say "Hello" next time you are at the Club.

Meatloaf Club Sandwich
Ingredients:
10 slices of bacon, 2 slices coarsely chopped
2 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons dry breadcrumbs
3 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons milk
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon finely chopped rosemary
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
3/4-pound lean ground sirloin
12 slices white or sourdough bread
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce, stemmed and chopped
2 beefsteak tomatoes, thinly sliced
4 Bibb or romaine lettuce leaves
Cornichons and mustard, for serving
Steps:
Preheat the oven to 375°. Line a baking sheet with a wire rack. In a food processor, pulse the chopped bacon with the garlic cloves until minced. Add the breadcrumbs, Parmesan, milk, egg, thyme, rosemary and hot sauce, season generously with salt and pepper and process to a paste. Transfer the paste to a medium bowl and knead in the ground sirloin.
Preheat a griddle or grill pan. Spread the meat mixture evenly on 4 slices of the white bread. Top with another 4 slices of bread and brush both sides of the sandwiches with olive oil. Brush the remaining 4 slices of white bread lightly with olive oil and set aside. Place the sandwiches on the griddle and top with a heavy skillet. Cook over moderate heat, turning the sandwiches once, until they are golden, about 6 minutes total. Transfer the sandwiches to the rack and bake until the meat is cooked through, about 8 minutes longer.
Meanwhile, in a medium skillet, cook the remaining 8 slices of bacon until crisp, about 6 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Toast the remaining 4 slices of white bread on the griddle until golden, about 2 minutes per side.
In a small bowl, blend the mayonnaise with the chopped chipotle chile Spread the mayonnaise on the meatloaf sandwiches and top with the bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and toasted bread Cut each sandwich in half Secure each half with a toothpick and serve with cornichons and mustard

We are full swing into Spring; there is no better time to be outside and kickstart your new cardio routine. Not all cardio is the same – if fact, there are three categories of cardio. Which is right for you?
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
This consists of alternating between bursts of activity and timed rest periods Exercises include plyometrics or explosive strength training movements Think sprints, push-ups, and jump rope HIIT has become popular since you can build and preserve muscle while getting cardio at the same time These workouts do not take much time but will require more recovery
Moderate-Intensity Steady State (MISS)
This is the most popular type of cardio and includes any activity that keeps your heart rate in the 140-160 bpm range for a period of time Jogging, elliptical, rowing, and cycling are just a few activities that fit this category These activities can burn a lot of calories but carry a risk of burning muscle tissue for fuel
Low-Intensity Steady State (LISS)
This type of cardio keeps your heart rate in the 100-130 bpm range and has the highest potential for fat burning It does not tax the nervous system, helps to reduce stress, and requires little recovery time
All types of cardio have excellent benefits for your overall health. To determine which is best for you, you need to begin with the end in mind. If someone ’ s goal is to complete a triathlon vs. wanting to lose weight, there will be different approaches to cardio. Remember that a cardio routine is not a standalone training program. Cardio should be part of a comprehensive strength training program that supports your lifestyle and gets you closer to your goal.
