WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Tony Madera PGA General Manager It has been an extremely rewarding first month here at CCN and I thank all of you for your kind words and welcoming hospitality. As we move into August, I have some very welcoming news which will lead us into the upcoming fall season. First, we have contracted to have the parking lot completely re-surfaced in the next few months! Yes, this much needed facelift will add a tremendous amount of “curb appeal” for our wonderful facility. I cannot wait until we can begin this project to enhance your experience. In addition, we are also going to do some much needed drainage work to improve the playability of the golf course. The above projects represent a substantial investment into the club by Escalante Golf and as always, there will be no assessments. Our best days are ahead of us, and l look forward to the future! See you around the club!

event were very positive. Hopefully we can turn some of those happy guests into future CCN Members. Additionally as we move into fall you will see repairs to the parking lot as that has been scheduled for September and improvements to the drainage on the course. Thank you for your membership and have a great August. In June CCN welcomed the Kelley Family as new golf members. Travis and Hallie Kelley joined CCN in June and live in Jeffersonville Oh about 50 minutes from CCN. They have 2 kids, Mason who has played with his dad several times already at CCN and a daughter Bryn. Travis works for Alliance Agricultural Services and farm real estate. He manages farm leases for individuals who own the land but don’t farm it. It was very interesting talking with Travis as he said most of his investors and clients are foreign investors. If you see him or his family at the club please say hello.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Kevin Butts Director of Course & Grounds Mother nature has been up and down for us this season making conditioning the course very difficult. I want to start off by giving a big shout out to our maintenance staff in the last month. They have all taken pride in their work and created the best playing conditions as possible for the Club Championship, Men's Invitational and Ladies Member Member. With more member events coming up in August our goal is to continue to grow our team and create great playing conditions for these events. Moving into August we have plans to do some sod repairs on tees, cleaning up hazards and continuing to move the needle forward on the course. We will also be having an outside company coming in to do some extensive drainage repairs on the course. We will be adding additional drainage to holes 9 and 11 as well as repairing existing drainage. The drainage expansion on these holes will help us through the spring thaw months from winter along with spring rains and will help us improve the playing conditions on these holes through those tough months. It will also help us from being CPO on those holes at the beginning and ends of the season. Along with holes 9 & 11 there will be repairs made to 12 fairway and 18. These will be repairs to existing drainage and sink holes. At this time we do not have an exact date for these repairs but will keep everyone up to date on scheduled repairs moving forward. We will be focused on these projects moving forward as well as preparing for upcoming events.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Brian Smith Membership Relations Hello everyone and thanks for your Membership at Country Club of the North. So last month I featured arguably the first member at CCN, Tom Boots, as he says he was number 5 but 2 moved away and 2 passed away making him number 1. This month I'm spotlighting Daryl Nels who joined CCN in 1992 before it opened. I said that has to make you CCN's first femaile member? She said she's not sure, it's either her or Mary Miller. So she may not have been CCN's first female member but I found out a lot more about Daryl in our conversation and that is what I'm sharing with you today. As I like to say, "A lot of good things come from Michigan", including Daryl Nels. Daryl grew up in southeast Michigan in Monroe just over the border from Ohio. She started golfing at a young age and won her first tournament at Monroe Golf and CC as a junior against the ladies. After that the members enacted a rule barring Juniors from playing in the Women's Championship at Monroe Golf and CC. Due to this change Daryl wasn't even allowed to defend her title. She went on to play golf in high school and continue her education at that great institution of learning in Ann Arbor Michigan, the University of Michigan. She studied to be a dental hygienist and graduated from U of M in 1969. She worked for several dentist in the Dayton area and even worked as a floating hygienist at several offices helping when they were short staffed. She worked as a hygienist for 31 years before retiring. She met and married husband Terry in 1971 and moved to Dayton as Terry has family here. In 1972 she won the Ladies League at Community Golf Course, more of a fun than competitive league and was promptly told you're too good for this league. Sound familiar? So in 1973 Daryl started a Wednesday Women's League at Community and ran that for a few years. In 1973 she had here first son Kevin and in 1976 had their second son Michael. In 1977 the family joined Greene CC and were there until 1993 when she joined CCN.

PAGE 6

Daryl and Terry love to travel and have been around the world. They went on a 3 week guided tour by plane with 53 other passengers and had a great time. Here favorite place to travel is Africa and wants to go back. While traveling around the world she did yoga in India and saw all of the Natural Wonders. Daryl has had 4 hole in ones, 1 on #7 at CCN, 2 in Texas and 1 on the Officer's Club at WPAFB. I couldn't pin her down on a favorite golf memory but she said it was probably being inducted in to the Dayton Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. Or the time she spent with the players of the LPGA while CCN hosted the tournament for 7 years. She's played with Nancy Lopez and other LPGA players in the Pro Am. She's won two state women's golf titles, the OWGA and the SWIGA, both held at Greene CC. Daryl has qualified and made it through the local qualifier for the US Women's Senior Open twice. Won the CCN Club Championship and been a major help in growing the LGA. Thanks for sitting down with me Daryl and although your handicap is lower than mine I'd love to play a round with you anytime. Heck, I'd probably learn a lot.

GOLF TIPS AND EVENTS PRO TIPS & RETAIL UPDATE Alec Velasco Assistant Golf Professional DON'T FREEZE YOUR SWING ON PITCH SHOTS Even though you are trying to hit the ball a lesser distance on pitch shots, this does not mean that you should abandon the mechanics of your swing. According to Stan Utley, "It starts with a good setup. Take a slightly closed stance and square the face (1). On the backswing, let your right wrist hinge a little so the handle stays fairly close to you (2). Make sure you turn your body--proven here by the creases in my pants at the top of my right leg. On the downswing, turn toward the target, with your hips level at the finish (3)."More: Pitch Shots, Make sure you stop in the Pro Shop to see the collection of new hats and shoes that arrived in July.

CCN PRIVATE & CLUB EVENTS Stacy Black Director of Catering/Events

We are catering to our Members Did you know that Country Club of the North private events and room reservations are now exclusive to our Members? We are delighted to adjust our banquet and room reservation policy to cater to our members, their friends, family and associates. As of May, the club will now only accept reservations for special events, gatherings, celebrations and holiday parties that are requested by a CCN Member or an affiliate of a CCN Member. We are thrilled to make this adjustment and have no doubt it will elevate our member experience above and beyond previous years. If you would like more information on scheduling your next gathering, business retreat or holiday party, please feel free to reach out to my office by email, phone call or stop by in person. As an Event Planning professional, with over 16 years of experience, it would be my honor to assist in planning your event celebrations at Country Club of the North.
