As we move into the new year, we are excited to share some of the projects underway at Kingsmill Resort
In the coming weeks, we will be removing a few select trees and limbing up several others around the property. This will improve visibility and enhance the overall health and appearance of the landscape
With colder weather on the horizon, we anticipate an increase in frost delays. Frost protection is crucial for our putting surfaces, as walking on frosted greens can damage the grass. When frost crystallizes on leaf blades, it can rupture the plant’s cell walls, leading to lasting damage in the areas that are walked on. We appreciate your understanding as we take every measure to protect our greens.
We will also be painting the tees, fairways, and approaches on the River Course This process not only enhances the course ’ s aesthetic appeal, but the dark color of the paint will help draw heat to the turf, promoting faster spring green-up.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to an exciting year ahead!

Golf Tips from the Pro: Hitting the Toe Down Chip
Chipping from a tight or bad lie can be a difficult task when trying to score around the green Especially, during the winter A great method to use is the toe down chip Here is the best way to execute this shot:
1 Raise heel of the club so the only the toe of the wedge is resting on the ground This will eliminate the bounce of the club and will allow the wedge to move better through the tight/bad lie.
2 For your setup, play the ball off your back foot and grip down on the club You will need to move closer to the ball due to the rising shaft at address
3. When making the swing, use only your arms and keep your wrists out of the swing. You will want to feel as if you are making a putting stroke.
4 Since you are hitting off the toe the ball will come out a little slow You will need to take a bigger backswing in order to get the ball to your intended target
Thank you for taking the time to read our January Golf Rules and Tips, and we look forward to seeing you out on the course!

About Jess and Drema
I spent my honeymoon with Drema at the Williamsburg Inn 47 years ago, which sparked our love affair with the area We have three children Jess Jr., Katelyn, and Ashley and four wonderful grandchildren: Felicity, Nathan, Thomas, and JJ. We bought our first place in Pelham's in 1999 and often hosted our family to enjoy the amenities and lifestyle in Kingsmill After our careers in Washington, DC, we knew we wanted to make this our permanent home someday. In 2003, we purchased a home in Jefferson’s Hundred, and just two years ago, a downsizing decision brought us to Burwell’s Green.
Why Jess and Drema Became Members
We love the amenities Jess is an avid tennis player, and we both frequent the fitness center and yearround dining options. Member events help us connect with friends, while our grandchildren enjoy the Resort, golf and tennis lessons, and days at the River Pool
What is your favorite thing about Kingsmill?
Driving through the gates after a trip to Washington, DC, we roll down the windows, breathe in, and feel grateful to call this safe, beloved place home especially with unmatched sunsets at the Marina
Favorite Menu Item
We love the Salmon Salad at Eagles and Shrimp Tacos at James Landing Grille
Favorite Vacation Spot
The Cloister at Sea Island, GA is our favorite vacation spot.
Our family rang in the first day of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century right here at Kingsmill in our condo. With temperatures soaring to 75 degrees, we had to buy shorts for everyone to enjoy golf and tennis Happy New Year, 25 years later!
