NEW MEMBERS MEMBERSHIP UPDATE VP of Membership Sales | Chris Rucker As you all too well know, Kingsmill is a very special place. It is an important and storied place, with a history, literally like no other club in the world. To be a part of its stewardship is a big deal for me, an opportunity for which I am very grateful to our Club Members and Team Members alike every day. Thank you for this. The importance of Kingsmill as a place is real, but the true heart of a place, is in its people, each of you - our members. GOLF CLUB UPDATES VP Club Operations | James Paige

We have some exciting updates with our Kingsmill Recreation Team. We have a new Director of Agronomy onboarded – Jimmy Gabel. We also have a new Woods Superintendent onboarded, Allen Dobbs. A new equipment mechanic, Ricky Watson, will be onboarded in the upcoming week. A very big ‘shout out’ to the agronomy team for knocking it out of the park during this transition period. The courses are in great shape, and we are excited to continue building the team. The LPGA Club Professional Championship had a great event, with raving reviews about the golf course, staff, and member support. They will be back in 2023! August is a fairly quiet month for golf events, but September is arguably our biggest month with Club Championships and the Kingsmill Men’s Invitational!

We have onboarded a new Director of Programming, Peyton Linville, and a new Program and Recreation Coordinator, Alyssa Isasken. Peyton and Alyssa with be working with the different recreation outlets and department heads to create a robust calendar of events, social activities, and friendly competitions all around the facility. Keep on the lookout for updates regarding their new schedules. Peyton will be working out of the Membership Office, and Alyssa will be working out of the Resort Lobby when not hosting activities. If you have any ideas for fun events or programming, please do not hesitate to share. PAGE 4

GOLF GOLF SHOP GOLF RULES & TIPS Plantation Course | Miles Chapman

As the summer months start to heat up, our greens require more and more water to grow properly. The summer heat brings summer storms to Virginia. Many golfers may notice that our greens have been fixed with large greenside fans. These fans help prevent the greens from becoming too saturated with water during heavy rain, along with preventing the greens from burning out during the high summer heat. With the fans being strategically placed on the far edges of the greens, there may still be instances that a fan comes between your golf ball and the flag stick you are playing to. To take relief from these fans, utilize the following steps. First, mark your golf balls' position with a tee or coin. From this location, find the nearest point that you may take relief that is no closer to the flag stick you are

playing to, and allows you to swing without interference from the greenside fan. Once this relief location is determined, place a tee or coin as a marker. From there, you may take one (1) club length, no closer to the flagstick you are playing to, away from the greenside fan. Drop your golf ball from knee height between the nearest point of relief and the golfer’s marker representing a club length. Your ball is now in play and you may proceed to hit your shot without interference from the greenside fan. Thank you for taking the time to read our Golf Rules & Tips for August. We hope to see you out on the course! Best, Miles Chapman, PGA

FOOD & BEVERAGE MEET THE CHEF Mark Florimonte | Executive chef I joined the Kingsmill team as the Executive Chef in June. I grew up on Long Island and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1989. After graduation, I moved to lower Manhattan, worked on the “Chef Circuit” for six years, and was very fortunate to work under many great chefs such as Seppi Renglii. In 1996 I was hired by an upscale Italian restaurant to open a new high-end bistro in the Buckhead section of Atlanta for the upcoming Olympics. Since then, I have held executive chef positions at the JW Marriott in Atlanta, Williamsburg Marriott, Ford’s Colony, Norfolk Waterside Marriot, and executive director positions at Colonial Williamsburg, and The College of William and Mary. I have lived in Williamsburg for the past 24 years with my wife, Karen. We have two grown daughters and a 3-month-old granddaughter. In my free time, I enjoy golf, running, and woodworking.

Gazpacho 2 lbs Roma tomatoes 1 large cucumber, peeled and seeded 1 medium green pepper, seeded 1-ounce fresh basil, (roughly 8 large leaves) 1-ounce fresh cilantro, (roughly ¼ of a bunch) 3 garlic cloves 1 cup V-8 juice 1 tablespoon cracked black pepper 1 Tablespoon Kosher salt 1 slice of bread EVOO to taste Dice all the vegetables and spread out on a tray and season with salt and pepper. I like to let it sit at room temperature for 2-3 hours so that all the natural sugars have an opportunity to rise to the surface. Soak the bread in the V-8 juice until it is completely soft, this acts like a binder and will give your gazpacho a creamy texture. Add all the ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend to the consistency that you desire. Some like a completely smooth texture, I prefer slightly chunkier, having more texture and somewhat more of a bite. Chill it very well, I prefer to eat gazpacho the next day, this allows all the flavor to come together and meld. Spoon into a martini glass, (love the presentation), and drizzle the olive oil on top. I suggest making a crostini with pesto and serving it together. Makes approximately two quarts.
