TURF TALK

It seems like last week we were excited for the heat to have arrived so we could start getting aggressive with our cultural practices and accelerating the road to recovery and sustainable plant health. Then, we blink our eyes and here we are in August. Wow!

The summer projects on Shadow Hawk are now behind us. These include the bridge work on #7 and #17 and the SOX lake bank restoration projects on #5 and #17.

To re-cap last month and our course closure, we double verticut and core aerified greens, then followed that up with DryJecting greens. Tees were double verticut and core aerified, and fairways were verticut, double brushed, circle cut in multiple directions, and aerified. Once all that was completed, each area was fertilized with selected fertilizers to help with recovery and extended feeding. We applied our next summer pre and post emerge application wall-to-wall, worked on limbing up trees, and performed a bunker rejuvenation on all greenside bunkers and select fairway bunkers.

This month is pretty straightforward. We will continue our nutritional and cultural programs as planned, adjusting as needed. We will use either 1/4” or 3/8” Ninja tines to vent greens later in the month and will continue working on course details, and smaller in-house projects.

A couple of projects currently underway that are more behind the scenes, but exciting for our Agronomy team are a partial renovation of our maintenance facility, and new aggregate bins for our sand storage, which are located at our maintenance facility.

On behalf of myself and our Agronomy team, we thank you for your patience and continued support.
