WELCOME

GENERAL MANAGER

Craig Hicks

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter and got to spend it with the ones you love A big thanks to those of you that spent it with us, specifically at the Easter Brunch If you were there, I think you would agree with me on how good the apple bacon compote was on top of the mustard crusted pork loin! In talking to many of you that day, you have been impressed with the creations of Chef Gustavo and his team... and so am I. His next “fancy” creation comes in the form of the Wine Dinner on April 9th. We hope you will join us for a night of fun and enjoyment.

The social calendar is proving to be a great addition to the Club. While I am well aware that golf is the primary reason for most of you being part of the BlackHorse family, the secondary reasons being strong can only make your experience better The support and attendance continues to improve I think a monthly card game may be on the horizon after the fun we had at Texas Hold’Em night

The weather is making the turn, but i am wishing for just a bit warmer When we get soil temperatures up in to the high 70s and low 80s, we are going to see some grass growing in a big way This should help take care of the few trouble greens we have on the course From an agronomic standpoint, we are going to tackle the golf course differently this year compared to previous years, including opening up the fairways both right to left and front to back The overall health of the turf should benefit greatly

We have a busy month ahead, with a member tournament right out of the gates on April 6th We have two social events this month and will tee it up for the last two regular season tournaments in the 6FORE7 Golf League before we kick off the playoffs in May!

SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE

It’s hard to believe that March is already behind us! This last month was crazy with bulk fertilizer apps, our first of 4 pre-emerge apps for the year, numerous topdressings, and still more trees removed in an effort to promote more growth with added sunlight. It’s been hectic but very productive. We did see some cooler temps for part of March (completely natural this time of year) and were able to cover those greens that are lagging behind multiple times. We have seen a lot of improvement from the beginning of March and that’s with the weather not yet being prime for growing grass. With April here and the first few weeks trending toward warmer evenings and afternoons, I am confident that we will continue to see that progress increase in tempo

With the weather forecast looking good for the first couple of weeks of April we will be fertilizing all our greens with a granular in the next 10 days as well as adding an extra app to the greens that need it This fertilizer has both a quick release and slow release nitrogen source to give the grass a quick pop of nutrients as well as slow feed over the next month to 45 days

Our new rough mowers came in last week and we will get those in use this week We should see a much better cut as well as the ability to get around to the rough more often every week

We will also be doing a lot of sod work in fairways and next to cart paths this month as well as creating mulch beds in certain hard pan areas. This allows us to keep those trees while also having a more maintained and visually pleasing course. This is going to be a busy month and I am looking forward to getting after it and making the needed and necessary improvements.

The 2024 Member-Member was a blast to run and even more fun for the Members participating We had a full field of 120 participants for this event ready to compete to be the 2024 Member-Member Champion The Horserace came down to Team Blake Brown and Ed Lamont vs Team Charles Bourgeois and Kurt Pfeiffer on hole #9 of the South Course. Team Blake Brown and Ed Lamont came out victorious with a bomb of a drive from Blake Brown and a 2-putt birdie with a huge crowd watching

During our skills contest, Ryan Kromar hit his first shot from 50 yards into the barrel, winning a brand-new wedge. He was the only person who made it in the barrel.

The first day, Joy Santos continued her dominate performance by hitting it closer than anyone could on hole #16 of the North Course, winning a dozen Pro V1's. The Horserace wasn't the only thing Ed Lamont won. On day 2, Ed Lamont showed everyone how good he was playing by hitting it closer than anyone on hole #4 of the South Course, winning a dozen Pro V1's

Day Money was paid out to 1st Gross, 1st Net, 2nd Net, and 3rd Net each day If you are wondering if you won Day Money for either day, email Jesse Campbell and he will let you know. All Day Money has to be picked up from Craig, Neil, Jacob or Jesse and signed out for.

F&B DIRECTOR

Thank you to everyone that attended BINGO night and Texas Hold’Em! Congrats to Cody Castaneda, our inaugural Texas Hold’Em Champion! We had some overlap on participants, but Texas Hold’Em brought out some Members that we have not seen at our social events When we built the calendar, we certainly have that in mind We wanted to diversify the event types to offer something everyone could point to and get excited about at least a couple of events

We are excited about the events upcoming in April, the first of which is the Wine Dinner on April 9th This is one we have had circled for a while Chef is teaming up with Vince (a member of the starter/marshal team) to put together an amazing night Vince is a sommelier and is excited to share his knowledge with you about the wines you will be tasting Paired with Chef’s culinary expertise, it is sure to be an awesome night

Live music returns in April as well on April 26 Reno Conner will be our entertainer for the evening, and we look forward to having you out for a Friday night! Click in the calendar to RSVP
