GENERAL

Craig Hicks

We went through the summer with months of no rain We ended the month of November, specifically the week of Thanksgiving, with all the rain! The pond levels are looking healthier and that is a positive I suppose As we move into December, I am hopeful that we have weather more similar to last year when we had 20 days at or above 80 degrees! I don't really want it to be that hot, but I want us to have good golf weather so we can get out on the course as often as we like

Last month I informed you that our Head Pro was no longer with us I am happy to announce that I have made a new hire and we will be welcoming PGA Professional Jesse Campbell to the team at the beginning of 2023! Jesse will be finishing out the season as an Assistant Golf Professional at Whispering Pines, where he has served for the past two years I am excited to bring Jesse onboard as I know you (the members) will really like him, and I know he is ready to deliver top notch execution and follow through Jesse will make our club a better place and I look forward to welcoming him to the BlackHorse family You can read more about Jesse in his bio on page 8

I hope as many of you as possible attend this year's Member Christmas Party. This event is becoming a must attend event for the membership and includes great food, prizes and sales in the golf shop You can find more information and RSVP by clicking the link on page 10

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you out at the Club!

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Wow…You look up and we ’ re almost through another year. Time flies when you ’ re having fun! As we put the finishing touches on another great year. I think about how blessed we all are here. In particular me…When people ask me how I’m doing…I often say, “Better than I deserve”. Not only with a wonderful family and many friends in my life, but also with a great place to come to work every day! Also, because it’s BlackHorse and what a cool place to work, but mainly because I get to see you guys every day. More than half my days are consumed by hearing about things going on in your lives. I hear some good stories too! Some of your great trips and travels and others not for public consumption, haha! Anyhow, over my many years being here…I’ve made so many great friendships and over time it really does become a second family. For that I am always thankful.

As I reflect on the year, we have seen a lot of change, much of which I believe is in a positive direction for the Club and the membership. I only anticipate that improving as we move forward.

As you may have already read, we are adding Jesse to the team as our next Head Golf Professional. I got the chance to sit down with Jesse during the interview process and I am really impressed. His personality is infectious and his attention to detail equally as impressive. Bringing him onboard gives me a lot of confidence in the offerings we have for our members and the overall level and quality of service our team here will continue to offer. We strive to improve each day and I think he is another piece to the puzzle that will make us even better. As always, I want to thank you for being a part of BlackHorse! I hope you and your families have a Blessed & Merry Christmas.

COURSE MAINTENANCE

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving holiday with your family and friends November ended on a soggy note, but despite the wet ending, the maintenance team was able to accomplish a good amount of work out on the golf course Even more so with the cooler temperatures and lack of turf growth, please continue to follow the blue stake rule, fill your divots, and fix your pitch marks

We rolled out our weekly cart path only holes last month We are designating 4 total holes per week to remain CPO to allow the turf on those holes a break from cart traffic The four weekly holes will rotate from week to week to give as much reprieve from carts during this time of year with little to no turf grass growth We believe this plan, along with higher mowing heights, will produce better turf conditions during the winter and into spring We appreciate your cooperation and dedication to helping us keep the course in the best shape possible

For on course work, we completed edging cart paths on the South and will do the North in the coming weeks A major drainage issue on South 15 was repaired that will now allow water to drain properly and not back up near the fairway edge and creek. All tee signage posts were painted black to update their aesthetics Several trees were knocked down by our staff on South 10, 11, 12, & 18 and on North 7, 8, 16, & 17 Both driving range tees and select par 3 tees were overseeded While germination was slowed a bit due to cooler than normal temperatures and lack of sunlight, we still expect the seed to do just fine We have mowed the range tees in the past days and will give them a good amount of fertilizer this week to push them along Moving forward to December, we have started a large drainage repair on North 17/18 When completed, water will drain properly from all North #17 again Other tasks for the month include more in house tree work where needed (including raising the canopy in areas), establishing and opening overseeded areas, and drain basin repair

The overseed is now filled in on the driving range tee We will be able to return to grass on Saturday, Dec 3 We overseeded the par three tee boxes about a week later and they are still filling in

GOLF

PRO SHOP - DECEMBER RESULTS & MORE

The month of November was certainly a change of pace from what we have experienced all year long The conditions became colder and much wetter, but we still got some golf in Unfortunately, our Poker Run at the beginning of the month got rained out, but everything else was contested

The Turkey Shootout is an event we look forward to every year We were able to give out eight Thanksgiving Turkeys as you will see in the results on the next page The rain and cold ran about half of the field away, but 43 of our members toughed it out and completed the round!

We wrapped up the month with two events: Play with the Pro and our Couple’s Scramble You can tell Craig and I have been working, but not on our games We did not have our best showing but had a lot of fun with our respective groupings The Couple’s Scramble polished off the month for us We had six couples join us for the evening and everyone had a lot of fun We are moving December’s to a Sunday afternoon in hopes that more of our BlackHorse couples can join in on the fun! We would love to see this group continue to expand

Lastly, I want to highlight some Holes In One! Nicholas Salazar made an ace on North #16 from 177 yards, Randy Engalla made a one on South #4 from 150 yards away and Les Gunter knocked one in on South #6 from 135 yards Last but not least, Spencer Pyles knocked it in for a one on South #6 during the Couple's tournament! Congratulations to these four guys and hopefully you can be next

This photo was taken by Yosuke Ogata It features a double rainbow and was taken from behind the 18th green on the North Course We failed to find out if Yosuke made birdie on the hole, but with a photo like that, he must have had some luck that week following!
