WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Craig Hicks

October is in the books, and we now shift our focus toward one of my two favorite months! And yes, they are backto-back. I love November and December, all the family time and the good food that comes along with those months. I hope you and yours find time to spend together this holiday season. These two months also produce some of the nicest weather Houston has to offer. We have seen a major shift in the weather from September to October and I recently read a report suggesting that this winter will remain dry and mild, which is good for golf. In October, we kicked off member appreciation with Halloween BINGO night. For November, Neil and I will be relaxing by the smoker and handing out complimentary brisket tacos to members! Also, we will host a chili cook off where our members can compete against each other to see who makes the best chili! As the days become shorter, it becomes even more important for us to manage our tee sheet as best as possible. We want to make sure that every member that wants to play has the opportunity to do so. Currently, when a public player no-shows or short shows, we are charging them. We look at that situation as a missed opportunity for our members to play. The same can be said about member no-shows and short shows. Our team will be putting a heavy focus on cleaning up member no shows and short shows as well. Please make sure you are booking for the number of players you have and updating your guest counts with the golf shop 24 hours in advance to avoid any additional charges. Every unused tee time represents an opportunity one of your fellow members could have been enjoying the course.

MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Neil Sherrod

As you may know, I am a big sports fan and love this time of year. When the hometown teams get rolling and deep into the playoffs, it is even better. Hopefully the Astros can go on to win the World Series. Hopefully you are joining us for the watch party on Wednesday, Nov. 2 in Ropers! That will be an important game for both teams regardless of where the series stands. As part of our member appreciation events, we had our Halloween Bingo in October. In November, we have three more events coming, including the rescheduled Astros watch party. Craig and I will bring out the smoker and serve complimentary brisket tacos and keg beer on Saturday, November 12th. Soon to follow on Wednesday the 19th, we will host a Chili Cook-off! Chef and his team will prepare enough chili for the masses, and we encourage you to make your best chili and bring it up here. We have a great prize in the works for the best chili! All of these events are no charge to our

membership and we hope you join us for as many as you can. These next two months are two of the best in the year. Lot’s of nice weather, family time and for you, hopefully golf. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for this year’s Member Christmas Party on December 7th. This is always a great event with lots of participation and I know the guys are getting the shop stocked up with loads of new gear just in time for the holidays. There are also many incredible prizes given away to some lucky members. Our membership is in the strongest place ever. As our membership continues to evolve, we will keep shifting focus to providing more events for our members. Over this past year we have added some fun ones, including BINGO and Powerball. Both of these have been big hits and I hope you personally have gotten a chance to participate. If not, you will want to be at the next one. If I can help you with anything or make your experience here better, please don’t hesitate to come see me.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE COURSE MAINTENANCE David Franks

The month of October had some great weather for golf, with warmer than usual temperatures and unfortunately, much drier conditions. Month to date (end of Oct.), we have only received 23.50 inches of rain, putting us 17 inches behind for the year. Needless to say, the turf could use some rain. With that said, that is all the more reason to continue adhering to all cart rules, specifically the blue stake rules. Please also continue filling divots and repairing ball marks.

South. We will be working on the North at the beginning of November. We were able to complete a round of mowing and spraying around the South quarry to continue preserving the wonderful views of this area. Minor in house tree work of limbs and small dead trees was worked on, as well as one full day of work from Cypress Tree Company to take care of much larger dead trees on North #1 and #2. First applications of winter pre-emerge have been put out to control annual blue grass on all turf areas.

We were able to complete many tasks in the month of October. I feel the roll out of the blue stake program is going well. Our plan is to move them twice weekly during the winter months, plus additional times as we see fit. Turf grass growth has slowed tremendously from our summer pace, which means less frequent mowings of roughs and short grass. This will allow us to catch up on so details like cart path edging which has been completed on the

As for moving into November, we will continue to tackle tree work, both dead trees and trees that are limiting our ability to grow turf in the surrounding areas. Second applications of winter pre-emerge will go out as well as getting our over seeded areas planted and established. We are planning to put our perennial rye grass out on both practice tees and par-3 tees.

GOLF WHAT'S NEW IN GOLF? Graham Brannon

We have wrapped up our month of Championships, crowning our Senior, Women’s, MGA and Open Division Championship winners. In October we also had our first Powerball winners. Chris Dauterive and Mark Skawronski each took home $1,330 in pro shop gift cards for their accomplishment. Powerball was a program I really looked forward to introducing to our membership and I appreciate the way the members responded, filling nearly every event which helped us build a great Powerball pot! I have met with our Tournament and & Handicap committee, and we are in the process of buttoning up the details on our 2023 schedule. The end of the year gives us time to reflect, but we know the new year is right around the corner and that means a new season of golf and member tournaments. The plan is to bring back many of the member favorites and

perhaps introduce a few new events in 2023. Before we get there, we have a couple more great events this year. The Turkey Shootout on Saturday, November 19th is usually a member favorite, and you will want to be a part of that. Something that everyone should want to be a part of, even if you cannot be there for the golf, is the Santa Hat Classic on Saturday, December 10th. This event continues to grow each and every year and the community impact is incredible. To many of you, this event might be known as the bike event! That is because the entry fee for the event is a children’s bike that, with the help of Cypress Assistant Ministries, will go to a deserving child this Christmas time. How can you not get behind a cause like this? Our goal is to fill the event to the max, with 144 players and even more bikes than that. If you are unable to be a part of the event, please consider donating a bike or a monetary gift to this great cause. Our Santa Hat Classic committee is beyond excited for what this year’s event will look like. Everyone will have a great time and know that we are all out there making a difference.

FOOD & BEVERAGE THE LATEST FROM ROPER'S GRILL Erin Roper

As part of member appreciation, we are excited to feature two events we are all looking forward to! First, the Brew and Barbeque will simply be show up and grab a brisket taco and some keg beer on us. I have already pegged Neil and Craig to man the smoker that day and serve you. Please know that is not their expertise, so take it easy on them! All kidding aside, we hope you will swing by on Saturday, November 12th. At the end of the month, we will feature our Member Chili Cook-Off! It is exactly as it sounds. Chef will prepare chili for the masses, but we encourage you to make your best chili and bring it up for judging. Our senior staff will serve as judges and we will be awarding the best chili, so why not participate? If you don't want to compete, that's fine, but still come on out and enjoy a cup of chili with us.

If you have not had a chance to try Chef's gumbo, you need to do so the next chance you get. It features chicken, sausage, crawfish and shrimp and is some of the tastiest you are going to find. For that matter, all of our made-in-house soups are really good and we would love to know what you think of them! Don't forget to mark those calendars for the Member Christmas Party. This year's event will be December 7th. We always get a lot of participation in that event and hope it continues to grow this year. We are in the works on preparing the menu for the event and you can expect details later this month. Thank you to everyone that participated in our BINGO events this year. We will bring BINGO back in 2023 so we look forward to having you back out then. Many of you host holiday parties with us in the pavilion and we appreciate you allowing us to take care of your event and create a special time for your guests. If you are ever interested in hosting a private or company party, you can always reach out to Randy or me and we can help you make that happen. Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving and we will see you in the grill! PAGE 10 PAGE 10
