GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

Jeff Muller

Dear Members,

As we head into October, we are working on golf course maintenance projects that will help increase the longevity of play in the winter months We aerified Witch Hollow 09/13 09/16 and in the same week, we started to strip and laser level WH Par 3 Blue and White tees on hole 2, 5, 15

Once that project is completed, we will move onto Ghost Creek Par 3 Blue and White on holes 3, 5, 11, 14 and 16. We will aerify at Ghost Creek starting October 4th, ending on October 6th. We are excited to have received all new banquet furniture for the club. We expect to receive new chairs for the Ladies Locker Room within the next few weeks. We are continuing to make improvements to the club and can't wait to see you all enjoying them!

As always, Thank you for your continued support of the club

COURSE MAINTENANCE

As I put together my last update here at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, I wanted to say thank you to all the supportive members at the club. The maintenance team could not have accomplished as much as we did without the support and understanding of what goes into putting the golf course product together. Over the last few weeks, our Superintendent Vinny Rubeo has taken over all golf course operations Please let Vinny or Jeff Muller know if you have any questions going forward until the Director of Agronomy position has been filled.

With the transition into Fall season we are starting to recover from a record setting wet Spring, and another record setting dry and hot Summer. Both the wet Spring and hot and dry Summer go hand in hand with current turf conditions in the rough With the wet Spring the roots had very limited development and in some cases with the bent grass in the rough the roots developed above ground This followed by the hot and dry summer challenged us all in many ways Add in the biotic and abiotic stresses such as higher than average activity with billbugs this late Spring and tournament build out The turf will recover as temperatures cool, and rains come We will again introduce ryegrass seed into these areas over the next month. Hopefully we also don’t lose power to our pump station again over the next few weeks with another record hot, dry and windy event We lost power for over 24 hours The inability to water through our irrigation system combined with the high winds stressed a lot of turf areas in the rough and fairways

THANK YOU FOR 7 YEARS, ERIC!

Switching gears, I wanted to provide a few quick updates on projects that have been planned prior to the LIV Portland Invitational (par 3 tee leveling) and projects due to the event (cart path repair and seeding of structures areas).

The Witch Hollow Par 3 Blue and White tees on hole 2, 5, 15 will be stripped and laser leveled the week of September 12th The following week these tees will be sodded with bent grass and wrapped with ryegrass. This is the exact same process used on Witch Hollow 12 and the tees that were leveled this Spring After the Witch Hollow Par 3 tees have been completed Ghost Creek Par 3 Blue and White on holes 3,5,11,14 and 16 with be stripped, laser leveled and sodded also. While the work is being done all the tees will be placed on the Red tees on their respective holes. Once the tees have been leveled and sodded tee markers will be placed on the Red and Black tee boxes while the sod matures and roots in Please stay off the new sod until tees are placed on them for use. We are excited to see the finished product after the tee leveling.

Cart path damage on Ghost Creek hole 1,8 and 9 from the LIV golf event will be removed and replaced starting the week of September 19th Please be aware and patient with the contractor as they demo and repair these cart path areas.

Ghost Driving upper tee deck will be aggressively Verticut and overseeded the week of September 19th With the cooler weather germination and recovery should be able to happen. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you again.

PRO SHOP WITCH HOLLOW GOLF RULES & TIPS

Pace of play is an issue at every Club. Pumpkin Ridge is no exception. With that said we are instituting a “Pace of Play” policy. Our goal is to make everyone ’ s round more enjoyable.

Our policy will be for each group to play in 4 hours and 15 minutes. We have hired new Course Hosts to assist you and monitor play. The Golf Shop Staff will record the actual time you leave the 1st tee, and the time that you finish.

All involved in the creation of the policy believe that if you play “ready golf”, adhere to the 3 minute search rule, and be ready when it’s your turn achieving the 4 hour and 15 minute golf shouldn’t be a problem. We all are all aware that strange things happen on the golf course. Groups will fall out of position, but if everyone is doing their best getting back into position won’t be difficult

Summer is almost over & Fall is almost here!! Come out and enjoy Ghost Creek's golf course before the bad weather starts to come through!! We will have Junior Golf Programs all September, if you have a child that wants to sign up make sure to email our Lead Assistant Golf Professional Matthew Brandt (mbrandt@pumpkinridge.com).

Interest in a Fall Ghost Creek League? Email sstewart@pumpkinridge com to find our more details!

PRO TIP: How to hit pure wedge shots A lot of golfers tend to sway off the ball and end up hitting the shot fat or thin

Focus on your sternum; feel like your sternum stays on top of the ball throughout the backswing This will give you MORE control over the low point of the swing and you will find yourself hitting wedge shots PURE!
