WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Mike Shoelen

Welcome to June! It is hard to believe we are almost halfway through the year. With the weather turning warmer we are excited to have the Oasis and the pool open for the summer season, and we have many enjoyable summer activities ahead. I am happy to announce Christina Castro has accepted the position of Event Sales Director. Christina has done a wonderful job in her role of Membership Manager over the past eighteen months. She has also helped the senior team with multiple duties outside her job description. Christina has built great relationships with our Membership, and we know you will enjoy working with her on future social events needs at Black Hawk. We appreciate the support of Membership at Black Hawk. Please continue to read on and I hope you enjoy the month ahead. As always if there are any questions or if I can assist with you with anything please let me know. Our Team will continue to work on getting better each day while improving the member experience. MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Karie Rogers Hello Black Hawk Members! Summer is here and what a great time to come up and enjoy your club!! A Private Club Membership, like Black Hawk, is about friends inviting friends. With many of you enjoying the course, pools and other club activities during the summer months, don’t forget to invite a friend to come along with you! Of course we have guest fees associated with them coming along with you to play the course, swim or workout but the summer is also a great time to introduce those friends to the Black Hawk lifestyle. As your Membership Director, I can assist as you showcase your club to your extended family, coworkers and friends. Remember, we offer a variety of membership options including the non-golf CLUB level, which is nice for those looking to spend time at the pool! Let me know how I can help with your special guests.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Jim Wallace Black Hawk Members, June will be a moving month somewhat akin to Moving Day on the PGA Tour. Saturday (Day 3) is after the cut and those that are within reach have a chance to make big strides and challenge the leaders. May was a busy month for our Agronomy team. We’ve covered many bases from major tree work to expanding approaches with a lower height-of-cut, added sand to bunkers, improved irrigation. The golf course has certainly started to shape up over the past few weeks. We have performed a several good agro practices throughout the spring and will perform our first greens aerification June 20th through 23rd. Please remember, this process is key to the overall health of the greens as we move forward. Our plan is to continue working on bridgework in June.

We’ve made our first two Primo applications to fairways and tees (that was the bronzing effect), as well as our Pre- & Post-Emergent herbicides on all short grass (the yellowing effect). The green grass will spring right back, especially with a dose of rain. We are looking ahead to sod and more cultivating, topdressing and aerifiying, fertilizing the rough, mulch & color change-out in flower beds, and lots of grass mowing. The course has certainly been prettier than right now, and that will return soon, but I don’t know when it has played better. At least to my eye. I hope you’ll let me know. See you out there on the track, Jim

GOLF GOLF AT A GLANCE Trent Peddy

As we get ready for the heat of the summer, I am excited to give you a little insight into the future here at Black Hawk Country Club. In 2023, we will move to a Fed Ex cup style points system where we will have an MGA tournament every month. The point system will be the future in determining who qualifies for the Wooden Fence. Along with this, I am excited to announce the return of the MGA. I will be looking for 8 members to volunteer to serve on the MGA tournament committee with me. This committee will be an advisory committee as I take the time to sit down and listen to what you want as a member when it comes to tournaments. We will discuss things like a regularly scheduled tournament season, formats, and much more. I plan on us meeting once a quarter. If you would like to volunteer to be on the MGA tournament committee, please let me know! I look forward to hearing from you.

I have had a lot of you asking about a full member event schedule for the rest of the year. You can now find our member event schedule in three different places. On the website calendar, on the app, and you can get a paper copy in the golf shop. A key date to take into consideration will be June 22nd as this is when sign ups will open for the Black Hawk Invitational Member Guest. The field will be limited to first 48 teams that sign up and pay. More details to come in June on this prestigious event at the club.

Arthur also specializes in recovery with Next Generation Electrons Plus guided PEMF Therapy. Much like a battery, the human body is electric. Our cells carry voltage. The electric charges necessary to maintain optimum health in our cells can decline from age, injuries, and illness. Electrons Plus is a unique device that utilizes Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) to restore this healthy electrical balance within the body. Arthur can run an electrical current through his hands into your body.
