GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Jim Wallace May was a busy month for our Agronomy team. We’ve covered many bases from major tree work to expanding approaches with a lower height-of-cut, added sand to bunkers, improved irrigation. We’ve made our first 2 Primo applications to fairways & tees (that was the bronzing effect), as well as our Pre- & Post-Emergent herbicides on all short grass (the yellowing effect). The green grass will spring right back, especially with a dose of rain. We are looking ahead to sod and more cultivating, topdressing and aerifiying, fertilizing the rough, mulch & color changeout in flower beds, and lots of grass mowing. See you out there on the course Jim Wallace Director of Agronomy

GOLF PECAN SHAKER RESULTS Justin Engel

The Pecan Shaker, our inaugural Member-Member event was a huge success and a lot of fun! We had a total of 20 teams comprising four different flights for the event. Two teams from every flight advanced to the shootout which was alternate shot played on holes 10,11,18 and from the seventh tee box to 18 green. The teams of Bill Dodd and Jeff Alvarez and Don James and Joe Dryer survived the first three holes of the shootout to have a chance at the overall title! The shootout did not disappoint providing plenty of drama and even forced an extra hole. On the second playoff hole Bill Dodd was able to chip in for birdie to clinch the title! We would like to congratulate the team of Bill Dodd and Jeff Alvarez on their victory as the overall champion as well as all the flight winners.

Flight Winners First Flight – Zane Warren & Jennings Goodman Second Flight – Erik Kingshill & Robert Macchi Third Flight – Tony Fox & Ryan Lance Fourth Flight – Don James & Joe Dryer We would like to thank all the teams who participated in the event to make our first Member-Member a truly special event!

GOLF UPCOMING EVENTS & GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE Justin Engel

Summer Send Off The Summer Send Off will also be a new event for us this year. It will be held on July 9th at 1:00pm. The format for the event will be two-man teams playing a shamble. After play we will be having a steak dinner along with stogies and a scotch tasting. This event will have points towards qualifying you for the Wooden Fence Tournament. If you would like to sign up, please contact Allen McDermott at amcdermott@shadowhawkgolfclub.com or by calling the golf shop at (281) 340-7205. July Closure July 11th - July 31st The golf course and practice facilities will be closed starting on July 11th for our 3-week general maintenance. The golf course will experience aerification, verticutting, circle mowing and top dressing among other things. The golf course and practice facilities will re-open on Monday August 1st at 12:00pm.

Driving Range Etiquette Divot patterns are an extremely intracule practice when you are hitting golf balls on the range. Divot patterns should be one continuous straight line with a space of grass between them followed by another straight line. Big patches or “random” divots are not in the best interest of allowing the grass to recover as quickly as possible. Straight lines with spaces between allow the grass to recover significantly quicker due to the fact of how Bermuda grasses grow. Please try to make your divot patters this way so the grass can recover faster allowing it to be more enjoyable for our membership. Please see the example photos below on the proper way to make divots as well as some examples on what not to do.
