WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Dear Members, The summer heat of Houston is here. Temperatures in June landed close to 100 degrees daily. With little rain our maintenance staff has been working diligently to keep the course hydrated. Jim Wallace and his crew have done a great job with the golf course, and he is looking forward to the maintenance closure July 11th – July 31st to conduct the heavy maintenance and project work that will continue to improve the playing conditions. Thank you Jim and to our maintenance crew for enduring the heat and keeping the course in excellent condition! Greg Nielson

CLUB UPDATE CART FLEET & "TOAST THE HAWK" Greg Nielson

We did receive an update from Club Car on the delivery of our new cart fleet. The delivery date has now been pushed back to August instead of July. Club Car continues to be hampered by supply chain delays for critical electronic and computer chip components. Please see the picture of the new look of the carts. I wanted to highlight a key piece of Shadow Hawk lore. When the flooding of the Clubhouse occurred it damaged numerous iconic and historic pictures and memorabilia. The “Toast the Hawk” speech that was delivered on April of 2000 by Ken Ventura was one of those pieces. I’m happy to say it has been restored, reframed, and now hangs by the entry into the Pro Shop. If you get a moment, please stop, and check it out. It has special meaning on what it means to be a member of a Shadow Hawk. Below is a copy of Mr. Ventura’s toast: “This Club has got something special. You have a chance to show tradition, to show the way golf ought to be played, to show how memberships of a club ought to be. And all of you are important in what you do as a club. I feel you all have the same dedication, the determination to make this place the best. For I will say this: May you be the leader and let them follow you. There should be a sign at the club to look at as a reminder for your membership, your pro, and all the people associated with Shadow Hawk. It ought to read: This is not the way it is; this is the way it should be! And that is what your club is. So for my toast tonight to you all of you, to Shadow Hawk, may you carry on the tradition, the prestige, and the love of the game for there is nothing better, and you can be an example because Shadow Hawk right now can be the number one club in the country, if not the world, not because of the course, which is great, but because of the membership. I wish you luck, I wish you the best, and I wish you good golfing."

- Ken Ventura, “Toast the Hawk” April 28, 2000 PAGE 3

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Jim Wallace I hope this message finds you well and all of you are enjoying the first couple weeks of summer. It has been hot, dry, and windy and somewhat of a challenge to keep our moisture levels up to push this grass forward, but I am very pleased with the progress and improvements in the golf course thus far. I am also hopeful that the playing conditions are to your liking. We have a lot of work in front of us in the next couple of weeks for greens aerification. The main areas of focus will be the greens and tees, of course, as well as the driving range and practice facilities, but we will leave no stone unturned. Those areas will all be aerified, verticut, top-dressed and fertilized, as will any other areas needing improvement. Additionally, we will enhance other parts of the course with cultivation and drainage as well as sod. Cart path edge work and tree work can also be expected. My goal is to have Shadow Hawk in pristine condition and ready for play on August 1st. For those of you that are as fascinated as I am with the family of eagles that have made their home on the fence line between the two courses, we do have some sad news. One of the two eaglets fell from the tree earlier this week. Although he was not injured, we did find out while he was grounded that he is ill. We had our friends from Wildernexx come rescue him and take him to a treatment facility. The specialists have since told us that he has a parasite and flat flies (Hippoboscidae) and has a very long row to hoe to make it back to his family. They did not even think he would make it through the first night. So far, however, he is fighting and trying to build his strength. I'd love nothing more than to see him make a full recovery. Whether he can return to his family here or has to stay in captivity, know that he is being well cared for. His sibling and parents look to be very healthy, and we do hope that they call Shadow Hawk Golf Club their home for many years to come. I will certainly keep you updated on his progress or any new developments. Please keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers. Wish us good fortune and good weather for the closure period, and we will see you out on the golf course very soon. Sincerely, Jim PAGE 4

GOLF AERIFICATION & ONLINE TEE SYSTEM Justin Engel The course will be closed starting Monday July 11th and will reopen for play at 12:00pm on Monday August 1st. The maintenance team will be doing large aerification on the greens, verticutting tees and fairways and will continue to prune the trees on the golf course along with various other in-house projects. We will also be completing the bulkhead work on hole number 10 bringing the bulkhead back to the forward tee box. During the closure the golf shop will be open from 9:00am to 5:00pm daily. The golf professional staff will be there to assist with getting clubs out of the bag room as well as making tee times for the membership at our other Houston properties. Tee times on the weekend at Black Hawk Country Club and Golf Club of Houston will be limited but we will do out best to get you out as close as possible to your desired time. During the week tee times should not be a problem at any of the golf courses. Please contact the golf shop at (281) 340 – 7205 for assistance in reserving your tee time. We will be transitioning to an online tee time system and will be implementing it starting on August 1st. We will still use the same restrictions that are currently in place. The tee sheet for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will open three days in advance starting at 8:30. Tee times for Monday thru Thursday will be available a week in advance starting at 8:30am. Members will be limited to making a maximum of two tee times using the online system. We will still take times by calling the golf shop as we have in the past if this is a method you would like to use. Access to online tee times will be available thru the Shadow Hawk Golf Club app. This process will be fluid and may change over time to better suit the membership. We will be taking input from the membership to make sure the process is as efficient as it can be. We will continue to send out information about the systems once it has been set up and all parameters are in place.

The golf course and clubhouse will be open for the full day on Monday July 4th. Tee times will begin at 7:30am on this day. We will begin taking tee times for the holiday on Friday July 1st at 8:30am. We will be offering a free tournament for the day and will pay out the top three low net scores that day. If you would like to participate, please let the golf professional staff know which tee boxes you will be playing from prior to the start of your round. Upon completion of play please turn your card into the golf shop. There will be a running scoreboard posted in the locker rooms and we will send out the results at the conclusion of play.
