As we make our way into the winter season we are very thankful for having survived Hurricane Ian. Although there was a large amount of debris to clear the club weathered the storm very well. All amenities are back in working order aside from the Endless Summer trips to the beach The dock was destroyed from the storm and hopefully will be repaired in the not too distant future. The boat was kept in a secure location and is being kept at the Naples boatyard. We are looking forward to having everyone back at their home away from home and have many social events lined up to ensure a festive time for all to take part in!

TENNIS UPDATE

Myke Loomis Landauer

We have put Hurricane Ian in our rear view mirror and looking ahead to sunnier and brighter days! Your Tarpon Cove employee team did an unbelievable job to get the club property cleaned, cleared and ready to open to the best of their abilities. With the leadership of our manager John Sexton, and the home office team of Escalante, we worked tirelessly to have the club operating as soon as safely possible.

Phil and I are very excited about our new tennis court conversion from above ground watering to hydro courts (below ground watering) Many of you know the challenges we have faced in past winter seasons with dry, windy conditions and heavy amounts of play The underground watering system allows the courts to maintain moisture throughout the day, with no down time for watering Our new courts will be state of the art, with new fencing, sidewalks and pavers

We realize as you return you may have many questions as you see the project in progress, and we’d like to address some of your frequently asked questions

1) Why did we start the project so late in the summer (or so close to the start of the fall season)? We began the bidding process of this project in June After deciding that Ritzman was by far the best company to do our courts, we had to get on their schedule They were completing other projects and commitments

2) When will the project be finished? There are too many unknown factors to give an honest transparent answer Upon completion of courts 4,5,6 we will be halfway there! Ritzman is very communicative with us and gives us updates and projections of timelines The club will continue to send out notices to keep everyone abreast of what’s going on

3) Why is the new court higher than the existing pad? The new courts are built on top of the existing courts New pavers will be added to the pads to raise them to court level

4) Will we have shade? Temporary shade with umbrellas or tents will be provided until the new canopies that were destroyed in the hurricane can be reconstructed

5) What about water and ice? Until the ice machines can be replaced, we will provide bottled water and ice in coolers between the courts We encourage you to bring your own refreshments and receptacles, but there will be water and ice provided daily

We are sure you have many more questions and concerns as the project continues Please feel free to ask Phil or Myke any questions you may have We are more than happy to give you any information we have concerning the conversion project We also thank you for your many words of support during this period Navigating through a project of this magnitude with a Category 4 hurricane thrown in the mix is never easy

We apologize for any inconveniences but feel the end result will be well worth the wait. Your patience and grace are appreciated during the next few weeks as we move forward to completion.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)Trusted Source, heart disease is the leading cause of death for adults in the United States

The American Heart Association (AHA) Trusted Source states that almost half of U S adults live with some form of cardiovascular disease

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a growing concern in the U S The condition can lead to a heart attack, heart failure, and a stroke

It may be possible to prevent up to 80% of premature heart disease and stroke diagnoses with lifestyle changes, such as increasing physical activity and healthful eating

The foods people eat can reduce their blood pressure and help keep their hearts healthy The DASH diet, or the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet, includes plenty of heart healthy foods

The program recommends Trusted Source:

eating plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains

choosing fat free or low fat dairy products, fish, poultry, beans, nuts, and vegetable oils limiting saturated and trans fat intake, such as fatty meats and full fat dairy products limiting drinks and foods that contain added sugars

restricting sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams per day ideally 1,500 mg daily and increasing consumption of potassium, magnesium, and calcium

High fiber foods are also crucial for keeping the heart healthy

The AHA Trusted Source states that dietary fiber helps improve blood cholesterol and lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and type 2 diabetes

The medical community has long recognized the link between trans fats and heart related illnesses, such as coronary heart disease Limiting certain types of fats can also improve heart health For instance, eliminating trans fats reduces the levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol This type of cholesterol causes plaque to collect within the arteries, increasing the risk of a heart attack and stroke

Reducing blood pressure can also promote heart health Most adults may achieve this by limiting their salt intake to no more than 1,500 mg Trusted Source per day

Food manufacturers add salt to many processed and fast foods, and a person who wishes to lower their blood pressure should avoid these products
