Later this year, we will be gearing up for Camp Trace 2023. Stay tuned. In the meantime, here are some images from camp.

COOKIE SALES BENEFIT CHARITIES Members of CTCC are always finding ways to give back to others. Our Cookie Queen, Sara Napier, is continuing with organizing the very popular cookie and baked goods sales that help raise funds to support the fight against breast cancer and to assist those who have breast cancer. Funds raised are donated to Play for Pink and to CCH Auxiliary Breast Cancer Comfort Care Fund. Trace members not only bake the delicious treats that are sold but volunteer to help with sales. Pictured are Maureen Travis and Marsha Davis as they get everything organized for a sale. Be sure to stop in when sales resume in August. PAGE 4

MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION Two of the members of The Executive Committee of the Men's Golf Association's three-year term is up and we will need to have two new members the year beginning in December of 2022. If you are interested or know someone who you think would be, please advise any of the below members whose email address is listed below. The Carolina Trace Men’s Golf Association is comprised of some 55 Members of the Country Club. The purpose of the organization is to run various golf events for our members throughout the year. We play an average of two events per month with multiple formats, including team and individual competitions. Maintaining a Handicap is necessary as it allows us to pit players of all levels against each other on an equitable basis. We are still accepting new members and will do so throughout the year. The annual fee for joining is $85 and includes a January breakfast and end-of-year dinner to celebrate the player's accomplishments. Each of our events contains an entry fee of $7 with the payout of 40% going to the field for pro-shop credit. One of the many benefits of membership and participation in our tournaments is the opportunity to play with many different players and to be able to make new friendships and relationships while enjoying some healthy and safe activities. If you are interested in joining our group, please contact the Pro-Shop. Ken Harden - Kj.harden@gmail.com

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - MR. RALPH MARTIN This month's member spotlight goes to Mr. Ralph Martin! Ralph and his wife Ann have been members since 2008 when they moved here to be closer to family and they fell in love with Carolina Trace. He has shot his age 6 times since he has been at Carolina Trace and stated, "It was much easier to shoot my age 5 years ago." He also told us his last two hole-in-ones were here at Carolina Trace! One of those holes in one was our signature hole, which is number 13 on the Lake course and the other was hole 15 on the Lake course. Carolina trace Country Club is grateful to have members like Ralph and Ann.

TENNIS & RETAIL TENNIS UPDATES

RETAIL UPDATE

As the summer winds down, the Carolina Trace Tennis Association (CTTA) will be scheduling another event to enjoy the sunny weather. Stay tuned for an announcement.

The Pro Shop is excited to announce that we continue to receive new shipments of both the TaylorMade and Callaway drivers and fairway woods. Fellow members who have purchased these clubs are reporting wonderful results that they are pleased with. It's always a good feeling when a member shares with us how happy they are with a new driver, club, or putter that we have recommended. As a reminder, we are also able to special order your clubs from TaylorMade, Callaway, and Titleist. In terms of apparel, we have several styles of golf shirts for the ladies from Nike last month. This last month we received a large shipment of Foot-Joy Golf shirts for men. These are premium shirts constructed of high-quality fabrics in fabulous colors and styles. We still have Titleist golf hat in stock that has our Trace logo embroidered on one side and an outline of the state of North Carolina on the other. These are low-profile, super comfortable hats that play well on the course, on your pontoon boat, around the pool, or on a walk or run. Lastly, we have received an abundance of white striped caddy towels from Ahead.

The Carolina Trace Tennis Association (CTTA) is open to all country club members who would like to play tennis and join our fun. All levels are welcome. It’s a great way to enhance your tennis experience. We will continue to have events throughout the year. Any of the board members (noted below) would be happy to discuss membership with you. WELLNESS & GOLF FITNESS COMMUNITY

COACH'S CORNER

"You may not be there yet, but you are closer than you were yesterday.”

Mid-Summer should be when many play their best golf, but this often is not the case. Why? The conditions of the fairways are at their very best with lush fairways and excellent lies abound! As long as you’re keeping the ball in the fairway, you’re setting yourself up for a great chance of having a nicely propped-up lie to hit fairway woods, hybrids, long irons, and sand wedge approach shots that are less likely to be topped or sculled. Hence, keep the ball in the fairway because the same holds true on the other side of the spectrum with the rough and thick grass around the greens. Fully loaded rough and thick Bermuda grass around the greens makes for a nightmare if you are fortunate to find the ball that nestles down and tries to hide from you. Such lies are most challenging and when summer rough is abound and you’re often in it, the score can soar!. So it’s simple……keep the ball in the fairway and out of the rough in order to play your best golf with perfectly propped-up lies. HOW? Two suggestions: FIRST, as many of you have taken lessons with me, you know that BALANCE at set up, through impact, and into the finish position is a big ticket item to which I point. If you’re out of balance at the end of your swing, you’ll have been out of balance during ball impact and likely miss the center of the club face which affects distance and direction. SECOND, take less club for more control and more chance of keeping the ball in the fairway. Too often, I witness the golfer playing a driver off of the tee, followed up by a long iron, only to find they're left with a green side bunker shot or a tough pitch out of that gnarly, deep Bermuda grass around the green. Although with a lesser club off the tee, you might be further away for your second shot, you’re more likely to have a better lie. That second shot can be less club as well, which also increases the odds of being in the fairway and short of the bunkers, with a medium wedge swing into the green instead of that bunker shot or gnarly green side chip/pitch shot. Try out this strategy. Less is more…..more likely to have better lies, better shots, and better scores.
