WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

Hello Members, This year marks our 50th Anniversary at Carolina Trace Country Club and we will be celebrating all Labor Day weekend from Friday, September 2nd through Monday, September 5th. We will be rocking and rolling - rolling and rocking. More details to come for our Celebration weekend – I have heard Elvis is stopping by to perform after our Labor Day / 50th Anniversary Scramble to help up with our “raffle” drawings. Here is a little snapshot about the “lots” that were sold first inside Carolina Trace Country Club. Be sure to stop by our “Wall of Wonder” located in the hallway heading towards the Jones Pub and read some of the histories of CTCC. "All the first lots were on the North Shore, and Bill Arnold says that the original plan was very like the North Shore but that it evolved over time. In 1970, after the Arnolds, Hickeys, and Brinns chose (in that order), three separate lotteries were held at the Information Center, (the converted Dalrymple Barn), each conjunction with a large cocktail party. The idea came from such quiz shows as the $64,000 Question. Bill Arnold still has the fishbowl that was used, and he and Joyce to it to show when they made talks about Carolina Trace. The participants drew in the order that they had paid deposits, and the number drawn from the fishbowl was their place in line to make their selection. The choices were lots with a “view” ($6,000), lots on the golf course ($8,000), and lots on the lakefront ($10,000). Each category had a separate drawing from the fishbowl, and Club Membership was included in the price. A Sanford judge, Woody Seymour, and CPA Charles McAdams were present to give an “air of propriety” to the proceedings. Sixty of the approximately one hundred lots available were claimed". During Our Labor Weekend Celebration as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary that weekend will be using the “Original Fishbowl” for special drawings for our membership. Raymond Reyes, GM

MEMBER UPDATES Ladies 9 Hole Golf Association (L9H) Are you a woman interested in golfing for fun? Play only 9 holes every week? Do you have an established handicap? If you answered yes to the above questions, then the L9H is just for you. We play a different game every Tuesday from March through December. On the first Tuesday of the month, we play a shotgun team tournament. The weekly winners earn points that are paid out in Pro Shop credit at the end of the year. We also have a business meeting and lunch on the second Thursday of the month. Our dues are $30 annually. If you join after July 1, then dues are $15. If you are interested in joining or have any questions, please contact Maureen Travis at mjtravis56@hotmail.com. The L9H hosted the annual 9 & 18 holes Combined Tournament. 40 participants were making up 10 teams. Each team had 2 L9H & 2 WGA players. Each player received at registration a “Welcome” goody bag with homemade biscotti by Penny Fogg as well as pretzels and mini chocolates. We played a Step Aside Scramble with an 8:30 am shotgun start. Five out of the ten teams won some cash ranging from $1 to $5. A delicious lunch of Chicken Marsala crepes over couscous with honey-glazed carrots was served. A light dessert of blueberries in yogurt finished the meal. Each player also received a small gift of colored pencils, a resilience journal, and a magnifying card compliments of Central Carolina Hospital’s Auxiliary. The table decorations were beautifully done by Jacqui Danek and Eileen Burke. The winners of the centerpieces had the closest birthday. A fun time was had by all. Several players have requested having more combined events during the year.

YARN IT ALL!

Have you ever thought about learning to knit or crochet? Are you already a knitter and would like to join a group? Well, then Yarn It All is the group for you. We are a small group of veteran and beginner knitters. A few of us also crochet. We will teach you how to knit or crochet and supply you with a set of needles and a ball of yarn. We have lots of patterns for veteran knitters or even beginners who have mastered the knit and purl stitch. We meet every Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the Governor’s room. Some of us may come early and have lunch together. It’s a great opportunity to socialize. If interested, please contact Maureen Travis at mjtravis56@hotmail.com. Hope to see you soon.

Women’s Club News The Carolina Trace Country Club Women’s Club is accepting dues for the 2022-2023 year beginning in September. Membership is open to all women of Carolina Trace Country Club and annual membership dues are $20.00. The purpose of the Women’s Club is to “promote friendship and communication among the women of Carolina Trace Country Club and to benefit the local community.” We meet on the second Friday of each month starting at 10:00 and have a social time, a brief business meeting, a program and we end with lunch. This past year we had a wide variety of programs that were not only interesting, but informative, educational and fun. This year our program committee has put together another equally exciting year of speakers and presentations. The Women’s Club also supports several local charities by monetary donations and by sponsoring collections during the holidays. If you would like to join, you may deliver your check, payable to “CTCC Women’s Club” to Billie Zulich at 92 Northridge Trail or to Leslie Orlovsky at 638 Chelsea Drive. MEN'S MEMBER/GUEST(S) GOLF TOURNAMENT September 29th, 30th, and October 1, 2022 Proud to be supporting the Wounded Warrior Project. Mark your calendars and contact your guest(s) for our Men's Member/Guest Golf Tournament. This year we are changing the format to a Four-player team. Each Member can have up to three guests or get with another member to establish a team with two members and two guests. We are currently in the planning stages so more details to come as we get closer to the tournament. The ladies just had an excellent tournament with 80 players. Our goal is to have 120 players which is one of the reasons we are changing the format. Registration will begin on June 15th. Help us make this a tournament to remember. If you have any questions or desire sponsorship, please contact, Dave Cummings, Rick Schock, and Raymond Reyes.

COACH'S CORNER Officially, summertime is here and that means that the golf ball can fly further! However, although we have the new range distance finders attached to the bag stands on the driving range, those won’t reflect your true distances. The reason for this is because the range balls are “limited flight” and reduce your distance by 20 to 30 percent. So if you hit a shot on our driving range 100 yards, you’ll likely hit a regular golf ball 125-130 yards. Hitting a shot 125 yards is actually like striking a regular ball roughly 160 yards….When you hit a shot 150 yards on our range at CTCC, you’re hitting the ball approximately 190 yards! The difference will not be seen as much with pitching, chipping, and green side bunker practice. Hence, if you’re wanting to know how far you hit your regular golf ball, you might consider using the indoor “Swing Lab” launch monitor. Aside from the benefits of knowing the distances of your ball striking, you also get air conditioning during these hot days! Stay cool and keep it down the middle! Coach André

ATTENTION ALL POTENTIAL GOLFERS: Are you interested in playing golf? At Carolina Trace, we have 4 groups that provide an opportunity for members who want to play golf in an organized group and compete in events. Ladies Beginners Golf (LBG) plays on Thursday and provides beginning golfers with a fun and comfortable opportunity to learn to play the game of golf. On Tuesdays, the Ladies 9-Hole Association plays a variety of events and formats throughout the year. Tuesday is also the day that the Women’s Golf Association (WGA) plays 18-hole events and tournaments. The Men’s Golf Association (MGA) is another 18-hole group and they play events an average of 2 times per month. If you are interested in knowing more about these groups, please talk with Mike in the Pro Shop and he’ll let you know how to get in touch with the group of your choice. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - MR. KEN HARDEN This month’s member spotlight goes to one of our fantastic golf members, Mr. Ken Harden. We want to give him the spotlight because he played a huge role in getting our club to sponsor hole 3 at Pine Needles to marshal the women’s U.S. Open. Ken stated, “The members stepped up, and the USGA was so pleased with our marshaling duties, they would like to partner with us again for the men’s U.S. Open in 2024." A fun fact about Mr. Harden is, that when he is not playing golf or tennis, he is watching golf, or tennis on television. His love for the game is authentic and it shows in his work ethic toward both sports. When Ken and his wife Mona moved to Carolina Trace, he said the Country Club was a big part of the draw. The appearance of the two golf courses and the clubhouse made them feel right at home along with the yearround golfing conditions of the Carolina's. We are thankful to have you as a member Mr. Harden!

TENNIS & RETAIL TENNIS UPDATES

RETAIL UPDATE

We had great weather, great pizza, and great tennis play for our event on June 6! It was wonderful to meet a few more players interested in joining our fun. A big THANK YOU to Carol Martell, Karen Scheidegger, Pat Davis, Ernie Violon, David Smoak, Al Zulich, and Billie Zulich for making this such a success. The Carolina Trace Tennis Association (CTTA) is open to all country club members who would like to play tennis and join our fun. All levels are welcome. It’s a great way to enhance your tennis experience. We will continue to have events throughout the year. Annual dues are $25. Any of the board members (noted below) would be happy to discuss membership with you.

The Pro Shop is excited to announce that we continue to receive new shipments of both the TaylorMade and Callaway drivers and fairway woods. Fellow members who have purchased these clubs are reporting wonderful results that they are pleased with. It's always a good feeling when a member shares with us how happy they are with a new driver, club, or putter that we have recommended. As a reminder, we are also able to special order your clubs from TaylorMade, Callaway, and Titleist. In terms of apparel, we received several new styles of golf shirts for the ladies from Nike last month. This last week we received a large shipment of Foot-Joy Golf shirts for men. These are premium shirts constructed of high-quality fabrics in fabulous colors and styles. We also now have a new Titleist golf hat in stock that has our Trace logo embroidered on one side and an outline of the state of North Carolina on the other. These are low-profile, super comfortable hats that play well on the course, on your pontoon boat, around the pool, or on a walk or run. Lastly, we have received an abundance of white striped caddy towels from Ahead.

Tennis Courts will be used exclusively for Camp Trace on Monday, June 27 – to Friday, July 1. from 9:00am - 12:50pm (or so),

Please stop by the golf shop at your convenience to chat with Mike Carbaugh about any of your equipment or apparel needs.

WELLNESS FITNESS COMMUNITY OF CAROLINA TRACE COUNTRY CLUB The Fitness Community of Carolina Trace Country Club is a thriving, fun, and healthy community to be a part of. It’s been inspiring witnessing the individual growth of our members in their strength, consistency, and all-around wellness. In classes members encourage one another and hold one another accountable, they work together to remain motivated and always give their best. Last month we brought back Water Aerobics! It will continue throughout the summer months on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 AM at the clubhouse pool. Water weights and pool noodles are available to include with your workout, we recommend bringing water, sunscreen, a hat or sunglasses, a towel, or maybe water shoes. Water adds a low-impact resistance to the exercises performed, this means that while you’re moving, you’re not only increasing heart rate and cardiovascular ability but also strengthening joints and muscles. This class is fun, upbeat and a joyful atmosphere to partake in, it’s also incredibly refreshing on these hot days! Did you know? Weight and resistance training has been shown to slow down muscle atrophy and increase longevity. As we age our bodies lose muscle and mobility, we can help prevent this through exercise! Resistance training can be completed with body weight only, with the circuit training machines, or with weights like dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells & plates, or cables — ALL accessible in the CTCC Fitness Room. Working, building, maintaining muscle, and increasing mobility is the goal of all fitness classes offered to our community, even in Cardio Fusion (Mondays 5 PM). Your health is our priority. Try this Low-Impact At-Home OR Gym Workout! Weight is optional. Complete 3 rounds, 10 of each exercise: Jumping Jacks Squats Push-Ups (option to use the wall) Bridges Russian Twists
