Happy Holidays to everyone! The LGA held its 2025 Planning Meeting last month. In addition to the several emails I received with super feedback, we had 12 ladies and one Golf Professional hash out the details for the next year's golf season! Thank you to all in attendance and to those who took the time to write
The basic structure of the season is going to look the same; we will have 3 payouts a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and the weekends We will continue to hold monthly 9-hole mixers with 5pm starts to allow the working ladies to play and also appease those who don't like to eat dinner at 8pm
We are going to kick off the season on May 2nd with our Meet and Greet. Opening Day will be May 8th and our season will close on October 16th. In between, we will hold our 9 and 18 hole Guest Days, our Member/Member, Solheim Cup and the 2nd season-long Match Play event--that was quite the hit with everyone this year!
We are also going to be more involved with the Golf Genius app with regards to signing up for events and scoring Don't worry, we'll still have old school scorecards and sign-up sheets!
I wish all of you and your families a TEE-rrific holiday season!!!
Kevin Butts Director of Course & Grounds
November has come and gone and to reflect on our past month I would like to highlight some of our accomplishments Leaf cleanup, sod repairs, fairway topdressing, Irrigation repairs and irrigation blow out are just a few items that kept our schedule full in the month of November
Leaf cleanup is always a task on the course This year our team worked very hard to keep up and with the use of our new super 600 vacuum along with our mowers our team made quick work of leaf cleanup Working in unison blowing out bunkers and blowing off greens on a daily basis and either sucking up the leaves or mulching them up we were able to create better playing conditions this fall season.
Although fall aerification to fairways created more work on the irrigation system we were able to remedy the damages quickly and focus on pipe repairs throughout the course In the month of November we focused on getting as many pipe repairs complete as possible to make the spring charge up a little easier as well as the blow out of the irrigation system With the season coming to an end, we have completed our irrigation blow out to prep the system for winter This process is an important task to prevent the system from freezing over the winter and causing more damage to the irrigation system This is a lengthy process to ensure we have blown out as much of the water as we can to prevent freezing
Sod repairs to bunkers have been completed this month as well These repairs were necessary due to the extreme weather we experienced during the bunker renovation. These repairs will take root all winter long and come out in the spring as healthy thriving sod. Laying sod this time of year is great for the plant, giving it time to recover from the stress of being cut, transported and laid on the slopes Without the additional stress of heat, lack of moisture and long sunny days that we would experience if laid in the summer the sod will thrive coming out of dormancy in the spring
Fairway topdressing has been completed this month as well We were able to spread 10 tons of sand per acre on our fairways this fall By topdressing our fairways with sand on a regular basis we will begin to build up a sand layer that will benefit our fairways in many different ways It will help the plant thrive, be more disease resistant, drain the fairways better and ultimately creating a firmer playing surface that we all love We will continue this process year after year with our coring process, deep solid tine and verti-cutting to reduce thatch which will also help speed up the process of creating a better playing surface
As we look into December and the holiday season we are excited to get a brief break from turf and focus on some tree work and smaller projects such as building new walk bridges. We hope everyone has a great Holiday season and look forward to seeing everyone soon!

As we bid farewell to 2024, it’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on what we ’ ve accomplished together as your MGA From thrilling tournaments to the camaraderie shared at every event, this year has been filled with memorable moments With 2025 just around the corner, we ’ re excited about the opportunities ahead Let’s take a moment to recap 2024’s highlights and preview the exciting events planned for the coming year.
This year brought its challenges, including the tough decision to cancel our premier guest event, the Men’s Invitational, due to ongoing course upgrades However, we successfully executed a refreshed CCN MemberMember tournament, incorporating new variations that were well received and will serve as a foundation for future events. We also introduced the one-day Super Stagg Day, which proved to be a fantastic addition. This guest event quickly sold out, helping to fill the gap left by the Invitational’s cancellation, and has the potential to become an annual favorite. Our premier fall event, the Ryder Cup, once again delivered excitement and fierce competition Team captains Roger Wentworth and Dave Pendry, winners of the Hattori Cup Member-Member, demonstrated excellent strategy in selecting their matchups The event came down to a thrilling finish on the final day, showcasing the skill and spirit of all participants
The MGA committee will meet in early December to review the successes of 2024 and plan an even better year ahead. A packed schedule will be unveiled on the CCN website in January or February. One major highlight to anticipate is the return of the Men’s Invitational in July, a perfect opportunity to showcase our enhanced bunkers, waterfalls, and ponds This signature event has a history of selling out, so mark your calendars for the early sign-up window As we wrap up 2024, let’s carry the momentum into 2025. Whether you ’ re a seasoned player or just starting your golfing journey, the year ahead promises new challenges, new friendships, and, of course, more great golf.
MR DAVE & MRS SANDY MCSEMEK
Ashley Brewer Membership Director
We are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Dave and Sandy McSemek, two of the most beloved Members of the Country Club of the North family Their story is one of love, loyalty, and a shared passion for life’s simple joys – like golf, dogs, and great food!
Dave, a Centerville native, and Sandy, who grew up in Belmont, met in the early 90s while working together Their connection was instant, and they were married on May 23, 1997 Dave’s dedication to his clients has made him a standout at Morgan Stanley since 1982, while Sandy enjoyed a successful career in financial services as well
Sandy is a devoted grandmother who treasures every moment spent with her grandbabies and children, Brianna, Murphy, Lauren, and Alex. Family is at the heart of everything she does, and she loves to be involved in their lives. Outside of family time, Sandy has a deep passion for dogs, caring for her three boxers Tibby, Poppy, and Marcus Over the years, Sandy and Dave have welcomed 10 dogs into their home, each leaving a lasting mark on their hearts.
They also have a tradition of enjoying Thanksgiving dinner 3-4 times a year, a fun way to celebrate family and food!
The McSemeks love to entertain and host company events at the Club They’ve been excited with the Club's recent direction, especially our golf and food and beverage teams On a recent fishing trip, they brought in two beautiful fish, and Chef Chelsea created a delicious dish using their catch.
We’re so grateful to have Dave and Sandy as part of our Club and look forward to many more memories with them!

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 large leeks, white and light green parts only, cleaned and sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
6 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and diced
4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Fresh chives or parsley for garnish (optional)
Crusty bread for serving (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Leeks: Slice the leeks and rinse them thoroughly to remove any dirt. Leeks can often have soil trapped between their layers, so make sure they are clean
Cook the Leeks and Garlic: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat
Add the leeks and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes until they begin to soften Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, until fragrant
Add the Potatoes and Broth: Add the diced potatoes to the pot, followed by the broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender
Blend the Soup: Once the potatoes are tender, use an immersion blender to blend the soup until it’s smooth and creamy If you don’t have an immersion blender, carefully transfer the soup in batches to a regular blender (Be cautious with hot liquids!)
Add Cream and Seasoning: Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste. Heat the soup over low heat for another 2-3 minutes, until it’s warmed through
Serve: Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with freshly chopped chives or parsley if desired Serve with crunchy croutons
