COURSE MAINTENANCE

We do not know what February will have in store as far as the weather is concerned We will ensure our final application of post emerge herbicide is going out The products we select are typically mild herbicides that roots must absorb on Poa Annua, Henbit, Chickweed, Carpet Burweed, etc The number one winter weed in the world is Poa Annua, also known as Annual Bluegrass Once mature Poa Annua plant can produce up to 360 viable seeds per plant These seeds may lay in the soil for years before they have the conditions right to germinate Our Fall pre-emerge herbicide has done a nice job of keeping the invasive plant from much of our turf We recently ordered our pre-emerge for putting surfaces for summer weed control We will use multiple light applications of this product to control soft crabgrass and goose grass We will apply our first application to all putting surfaces during the first two weeks of February Shortly after the greens program begins, we will start applications to tees, fairways, and roughs We will treat over 300 acres
We survived one of the harshest winter blasts Keys to our success were: The turf was highly healthy going into the storm during Christmas week, and we elevated moisture levels from the low 20s to the high 30s and low 40s These numbers come from an instrument with soil probes, and we like to keep greens readings in the mid-teens to mid-20s We also made a plant /greens soil spray that included water-holding chemistry, micronutrients, and fungicide
Detail work makes a difference
It is a struggle to get the edging, trimming, divots, ball marks, footprints in bunkers, traffic control pegs and signs, hazard stakes, trash removal, grass clippings, and especially leaves, pine cones, sweet gum balls, and small limbs off the playing surfaces daily We strive hard to make this happen Hopefully, you notice the attention to detail on both golf courses

1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
1 jalapeño chili, or to taste, seeded and chopped fine (wear rubber gloves)

FLEXIBILITY VS MOBILITY
These terms typically get used interchangeably; however, they are very distinct Flexibility denotes the ability for a muscle to be lengthened At the same time, mobility represents the ability of a joint to move through a range of motion Both are essential to healthy movement, posture, strength, and performance Let’s dig a little deeper and look at ways to improve both
If a muscle cannot lengthen, the associated joint cannot move with a full range of motion This results in altered movement patterns, which will impact posture and performance Once muscles can lengthen, it will increase the range of motion on the joint but will also require these muscles to provide strength and stability.
Flexibility requires muscles to be able to lengthen but does not require muscles to be strong. It is possible for someone to be flexible but lack mobility. To be mobile, muscles need to be tensible as well as strong to protect the joint in movement. Therefore, healthy movement is translated as your ability to move strongly and stably without restriction. This is the key to injury prevention and optimal performance.
There are many ways to improve flexibility and mobility
One of the most effective ways is loaded stretching
This is where you slowly increase the range of motion during a weighted exercise Loaded stretching is optimal for three reasons:
Improvement of range of motion through your body’s natural movement pattern
Effectively uses distributed weight to help elongate muscles
Promotes the strengthening of stabilizing muscles
