It’s September already. That summer felt very short, but we had a lot going on here at the Club and they say time flies when you’re having fun. On a personal note, my step daughter has started first grade talk about time flying by. My son turned two this summer as well People always tell me to enjoy this time of their lives and we are doing our best to do just that. This summer certainly had its highlights. It was exciting to see all the new programming that we were able to offer the members As we continue to become a more member focused Club, we want to expand on what we have brought to the table this summer. If you have not participated in any of the new calendar events, I invite you to join us for one, some or all of September’s member events.
Speaking of new events, BINGO seems to be a member favorite I will give credit where it is due Rachel and Stephanie came to me and said we should bring BINGO to the Club because they thought it would be something fun that the membership would enjoy. Seeing 50 plus of you at each one thus far makes me believe they were right! We are excited to bring BINGO back in September

What makes a golf course a golf club? To me, you can have a good golf course but what makes it a Club is the people there I know that’s something BlackHorse has in spades Not only with great members, but employees as well I often tell new members that some members join in the beginning because of the two great courses, but they stay year after year because of all the wonderful people here I believe this didn’t just happen by coincidence It's a product of members inviting out the people they love being around So, for the month of September we want to nurture that by offering everyone the opportunity to invite a friend to the Club for just a cart fee Monday Thursday If you have someone in mind you think would make a good addition to the Club, just email me at nsherrod@blackhorsegolfclub com This offer will have to be booked in advance by me and not something that will be honored unless prearranged prior to playing. Anyone that refers a new member will receive a $100 gift card to spend at BlackHorse, plus referral rewards points. Our goal as we transition to fall is to create an atmosphere that is more appealing to your entire family. As we continue to increase our member programming, you will see an increased focus on this effort. This month, Couples golf and BINGO night all return Another event I am really excited about is movie night We are going to turn the pavilion into a make shift movie theater and give you and your families a night out at the club My kids love Hocus Pocus and are looking forward to seeing it on September 30th, which is the release date for the new movie It is going to be a great night and I hope you reserve a spot to come enjoy! Thank you again for your efforts to help the golf course this past month I know that being cart path only was not fun for anyone, but the golf course certainly reaped the benefits During that time of extreme heat and dry conditions, we were able to water the course more than usual, knowing we would not have traffic on the course Even without the help of rain, we were able to improve the course conditions over the span of about three weeks Now that we have shifted into pattern with more rain, it is a little bit more business as usual when it comes to our watering practices When we do get rain, it is helpful to get it slow and steady As you know, we don’t get that all too often as Houston is known for the quick downpour We have been fortunate to get what we call some “good rain” over the last part of August that sends us into the month of September in a much better place than we entered last month
COURSE MAINTENANCE
We are going to be keeping select holes on the cart path to allow for continued recovery While we are in growing season, it is important to give the turf in those areas the best chance for success. This also sets us up better as we transition into this fall and winter.
This past month, we had Total Turf Solutions out and they Dryject aerified all greens on both courses. This is a process where dry sand is injected into the soil profile in small channels three inches apart, at a depth of four inches. This process helps in diluting organic material, creating better air and water movement in those sand channels, and firming up the putting surfaces with minimal disruption to ball roll once completed. Also, while closed, we finished running our Shockwave slicer over the tees on 1 9 and vertically mowed them as well. GLK Services came back out and finished root pruning 10 18 on the South Course. All fairways, collars, and approaches were sprayed with wetting agents, growth regulator, and fertilizer. These will be the last major closings of both courses for the year.

Play with the Pro will continue into the month of September and the Pro Staff is definitely looking forward to teaming up with our members This event is a favorite of mine for many reasons, the most important being that it offers the staff and membership a chance to compete and have fun together hope each one of our members takes the opportunity to play in at least one of these events to allow the BHGC staff to get to know our membership better! have some new exciting ideas for formats and rules for the month of September so make sure you sign up!
While we did not have an official contest running in August, one of our neighbors submitted an awesome photo of South #17 for us to share We do get a few photos a month from members and guest that capture really neat moments, but this one was the best of the month by far
