WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE With the kids getting ready to head back to school, the summer heat is still in full force. We have seen some crazy hot and dry days this year and I would like to recognize our entire maintenance team for their hard work in keeping the golf courses in such great shape despite some of the harshest summer days we have had in a very long time. As we turn to August, we will see the second aerification on both golf courses which will wrap up that process until next June. There is a lot of activity at the Club, and we are thrilled with the progress on the Clubhouse refresh project so far. We will continue to keep you updated on the progress and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work through this exciting process. Thank you for being a Member, Reese McCall General Manager

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE John Freeman No one is surprised when Texas experiences its hot summers – it’s a way of life we’ve learned to live with and one to which we’ve adapted. This year’s addition of a drought presents everyone with extra challenges – Golf Club of Houston included. Our Agronomy team has addressed the lack of rainfall in many ways – changing the way we water and addressing specific areas as needed. Our Team will continue to maintain the course to its best condition and also conserve the resources as necessary. We took several direct lightning hits on trees this past spring. The big pine tree behind #1 green will need to be removed and other areas will be improved as a result of storms. Both golf courses are in good condition. Our Spring/Summer pre-emerge and post-emerge herbicide program is doing a wonderful job. The next step will be for our team to apply pre-emerge for winter weeds in late August and early September.

In August, the Agronomy team will aerate both courses – to a much smaller effect than previous aerations – the results will be minimal, but the improvement will be impressive.

As the Director of Agronomy, here at Golf Club of Houston, I continue to be impressed with the commitment of our Agronomy staff. They work - often under less-than-ideal conditions – and their pride in workmanship and a job well done is apparent. PAGE 4

GOLF PRO SHOP GOLF RULES & TIPS Bob McHugh Golf Etiquette Tips – Practice Areas I have recently been asked to discuss practice tee etiquette. Let me gently remind everyone of a few things. Dress Code The practice area is deemed to be part of your golf course; therefore, the same dress code applies to members and guests while practicing golf. No denim or workout clothes are permitted, and gentleman’s shirts should always be tucked into their shorts or pants. This same dress code applies to anyone taking a golf lesson. Hitting off Grass When hitting off the grass tee, all iron shots should be taken from behind where the last one was hit from. This will help minimize the damage to the tee and will allow fellow members who wish to practice after you to have a good lie. Practice Bunker It is considered good etiquette to rake the bunker after use, just like you would on the golf course. Cell Phones Cell phones are permitted, we respectfully remind you that it is considered good etiquette to not disrupt your fellow members while they are practicing.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Get to Know Martha and Pete Serna! As August begins, we want to take a moment to recognize Martha and Pete Serna. The Serna’s became Members of Golf Club of Houston after being invited by friends who were already Members out for golf and to attend a cooking class. Making memories at the Club is a beautiful perk of being a Member. Pete has managed to make a memorable Hole-In-One on #14, and Martha finds that playing golf is an unforgettable experience for her at any time. We asked the Serna’s to tell us about their personal experience at the Club, to which they responded, "We love the Club and all of the staff members. We are very proud to be Members of Golf Club of Houston and are extremely excited about all of the new changes, and renovations happening right now. It's enjoyable watching our ladies group grow because of the events sponsored by the Club such as Señorita's and Margaritas, which welcomes new golfers." For Pete, he stated that Golf Club of Houston has allowed him to build numerous business and personal relationships with many Members based on all of the laughter and camaraderie he has experienced as a Member. The Serna’s joined ICON through Golf Club of Houston, which has expanded the Golf Clubs available, allowing them to attend many golf trips sponsored by ICON. They will travel to Portland in August to play Pumpkin Ridge with friends and look forward to playing all of the clubs associated with ICON and enjoying much more travel and golf in the future. A wonderful thing to know about Martha and Pete Serna is how active they are in Harris County. For years they have supported local charities such as the FamilyTime Crisis & Counseling Center, raising more than $1,000,000 for Autumn's Dawn and the Texan Live Scholarship Fund. They are avid supporters of any charity that raises money through golf, such as the Frank Billingsley Golf Classic, the Golf Club of Houston Invitational supporting the Charlie Epps Scholarship and the Southern Texas PGA Junior golf program. Recently, they added the University of Houston Golf Team to their list of beneficiaries. Mr. and Mrs. Serna are both Harris County Commissioners, Pete is with the Emergency Services District, ESD 1, and Martha is with the Fire Department for ESD 10. PAGE 6
