WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Andrea Knox

Wow, what a great July we had in spite of all the rain and some pretty extreme heat! Thank you to everyone that was out here playing golf, enjoying the Nicklaus Grille and participating in the July Golf School! Of course we also have lots of great events planned for August and beyond, so be sure to check the club calendar and get signed up early. We are very happy to have Birthday Bash back on the calendar each month. If your birthday falls in the month, your Birthday Bash Buffet is complimentary. Bring your friends and neighbors and let’s celebrate your special day! We have also added Turkey Buffet to the calendar for August. Any day is a great day for Turkey, Stuffing and all the fixings. Don’t miss this all-time favorite. Or how about joining us for a Scotch Tasting on Thursday August 18th? This is a great way to expand your palate and explore some new options. A shot out also to our golf course maintenance team! They have been putting in extra hours to help us catch up through some exceptionally hot and humid conditions. Greens aerification will take place Monday August 29th with a ½” tine that should heal fairly quick given the perfect growing conditions. Thank you again for your continued support and participation. Watch for further updates on projects we are looking to complete and new events on the calendar for everyone's enjoyment. Now get out and play! Andrea

MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Taunya Cordova I want to thank everyone I have met so far for the warm welcome. I cannot put into words how impressed I am with the membership. As your Membership Sales Director, that means the world to me. I can show a prospective member our beautiful course and facilities, but the opportunity to connection with all of you is what really closes the sale. One of my primary objectives is to create new membership leads for the club. Being new to the area, I would greatly appreciate your help. If you know of anyone currently considering a membership or moving into the area, please let me know. I would love to speak with them and tell them about our amazing club and show them everything we have to offer. And remember that your referrals can also earn you special rewards. When your referral joins the club, you will earn 1 point for every dollar in Initiation Fees paid. Visit the club’s website to see the great gifts and travel you could enjoy with the Referral Rewards Program today. GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE David Hillhouse We've completed a lot of projects this month. Here's a couple updates on our progress: Repaired the Drainage pipe on #13 (Mini-Excavator was rented along with another pump to help remove water. After almost a week of work we were unable to remove enough water to fully replace the pipe. We opted to take a different method of repair in wrapping the pipe with mesh and back filling with gravel to create a French drain. Continue repairing ongoing irrigation issues (Repairing Boxes from lightning and other routine service issues) Ninja Tines on the greens twice to help with removal of thatch and organic materials Verti-cut greens twice with weekly top dressing Bunkers were edged and detailed after two weeks of constant rain. Some bunkers will have sand added in the upcoming weeks due to washout with rains Although Fairways continue to improve with two fertility apps this month, we have had to play a little catch up with one of the fairway units being down and parts on back order. All parts have been delivered and installed hoping to be fully operational at the beginning of Aug. Weeds are an ongoing process with many signs of improvements this month Tees have been sprayed with herbicide to kill weeds that were popping up ( This is the brown tint that is expected after the application) Tees continue to be sprayed weekly with low rates of fertilizer #16 was sprayed twice to kill the goose grass infestation and other apps are planned in the upcoming weeks to hopefully finish the process. We'll keep you updated with more progress with email communications. Thank you for your support.

GOLF MESSAGE FROM THE PRO SHOP

Pints and Putters from July! Thanks to all who attended!

Billy Van Arsdale Summer heat is in full throttle! To stay hydrated is essential. Drinking plenty of water before, during and after your round is a must. When Gatorade first came on the market is was the only sports drink available! Now in the grocery stores you can walk past 25 different sports drinks before you get to Gatorade! I saw an ad on the Golf Channel for a powder supplement that boasts 3 times the amount of “replenishing fluids” than Gatorade! When we played sports (pre Gatorade) in heat the coaches gave us water and those amazing salt tablets! Image how far we have come! Please use the grandhavengc@grandhavengc.com address for any league sign-ups, tee time requests or cancellations, or major tournament sign ups. AFTER YOU POST YOUR SCORE PLEASE REMEMBER TO TURN IN YOUR SIGNED AND DATED SCORECARD AFTER EACH ROUND. THE HANDICAP COMMITTEE IS AUDITING SCORECARDS.

FROM THE GOLF LEAGUES FROM THE WGA

FROM THE LGL

It’s getting warmer out there; nevertheless the ladies of GHWGA are still swinging away and having fun. Remember the girls who recently traveled to Tennessee to participate in a charity tournament (Suzette, Jane, Melody, BJ, Jackie, Pat, and Cindy)? Not only did they have a great time, but they helped raise money for local charities. Congrats to Suzette Sweeney who garnered some cash for winning “closest to the line.” In addition to the newly elected officers, the Executive Board Chairs for the upcoming season are: Handicaps: Melody Kimmel, Historian: Ann Ducasse, Ringers and Birdies: Ann Ducasse and Virginia Nowakowski, Rules:Lynn Lefler, Social: Dianne Robichaud, Sunshine: Linda Stitzinger, Seagals: BJ Mott and Amy Lamb, Tuesday Weekly Games: Joan Callahan, WPC: Joan Callahan and Cindy Brogan, Past President: Peg Pettingell, Membership: Pat Golomb, Angel Tree: Margaret Bonz, Food Bank: Laurie Chatey, Web Administrator: Kathy Korbich. We should have a fantastic season with this talented group of women at the helm!

The new season for the LGLGH begins September 15 with a scramble and luncheon. BUT don't wait until September to come play a round. We still tee off at 8:30 every Thursday and gather for brunch after golf. If you're considering becoming a member, please contact Barb West at bwest263@yahoo.com. If you're a member, come just for the fun.

FROM THE MGA The GHMGA concludes our summer season this month with the two week Boys of Summer tournament September 7 and 14 . Registration will begin in the middle of August . The Blue Bombers, led by defending captains Pat Creque and Carl Zimmermann , will be challenged by the Roughriders, led by captains Tom Smith and Mike O'Brien, in this Ryder Cup-like match play team event. All MGA members are eligible to play in the event, which concludes with a FREE luncheon (free food, free beer!) for all members following play on the 14th. Watch your email for more information in early August. If you want to join the MGA to participate in this event and our weekly events, please let the pro shop know and they will put you in touch with an MGA board member.

Did you know that we have a new draft beer system being installed this month? Our draft system will get a complete overhaul including a new CO2 and Nitrogen mixer, new lines and insulation, and a new tavern head with 6 taps. The new system will help us deliver a more consistent product with the right mix of bubbles and the right temperature for draft lovers enjoyment. We’ll be looking for your input on seasonal selections for the added taps, so stay tuned for updates. We are also looking forward to the installation of a new sound system for the dining rooms and patios toward the end of August. The new system will allow us to control music and voice to specific rooms or all the rooms together and provide a more pleasant clubhouse experience.
